Adobe Stock / Creative cloud membership
« on: March 17, 2020, 13:40 »
Hello:
I started to receive a notification when I sign-in Adobestock that I got a free subscription a few weeks ago.  I activated my current plan last November, I received a complimentary 12 months because I am an Adobe contributor.  So receiving this recent notification surpried me and I have  not activated it yet.  I saw on Twitter that Adobe cloud subscrbers are getting a 60 fee holiday?    So I wonder if the code I received is to add a 60 day to my current plan.  I coud not find information on Adobe site. I want to ensure that if i redeem the code recenttly received it will add to the current one, not cancel it.  Have you received a code too?

Hello:

It became obvious over the last year-after submitting many thousands pics to different agencies- that ShutterStock systematically rejects all photos if the focus is not dead center.   I think its AI that tags and rejects those as if a human was to take a look it would be obvious that the focus is not on the center and why.  Dozens of my pics were cleared-sold via other agencies but rejected by SS.  I find that unfortunate.   What can I do besides submitting to ss solely images where he focus is dead center?

General Stock Discussion / Model release
« on: March 26, 2019, 12:27 »
Hello:
Do you get models to sign multiple releases for different agencies or just one release that you sumbit to all?  If so, do you have a template that satisfies all agencies that you could share.  Any problems submitting a release from a different agencies?

copy space, no people

And maybe No One?
copy space

Great - glad I asked - copy space makes a lot of sense . No One and no people I knew are used  as well as nobody.  Seems depending on the country different ones are used and I want to cover all.  Any further suggestions welcomed.

Hello:  What keywords would you recommend for images where there is place for text and that contain no people?

Why not pay for a pro account its worth it after all?

I do not see any incentive to do that.

Posting this just in case the people at Flickr monitor. I have a free account and I am a bit over the new 1000 limit. I received notifications that confirm that I can not upload unless I upgrade and that some of my photos will be deleted starting from the oldest.  Turns out many of these photos got lots of views and appear in different groups.  Not certain at all that its a good business strategy to delete them.  Flickr should definately consider giving away pro accounts to selected contributors who produce quality work and generate traffic as an incentive to post....

Give away pro accounts? That's where they make the money for storage and bandwidth.

If your earlier photos are getting the most views and are most attractive, consider thinning out the 1000 by removing less attractive images. Not only will you have the free account, but as you curate, your collection will improve in quality, which will make you look better for the quality of work, not just quantity.

I see no incentive to pay for a pro account. And they make money from advertising.   Some of my photos have tens of thousands of views-what do I get for that - exposure... True that I could remove some and improve quality as you point out.  Adding new photos to stock agencies has better potential to generate revenues than adding to Flickr.

Off Topic / Re: Global Warming is causing the Polar Vortex ???
« on: January 31, 2019, 15:07 »
A few elements about the polar vortex.  It splits when the stratosphere heats up quickly.  Solar activity influence the temperature of the stratosphere as well as other factors including human activity.  Meteorologists are studying it and their is no consensus yet. Some patented technologies to manipulate the weather involve heating the stratosphere.  Last autumn, as the price of natural gas reached a 5 year low, some financial advisors were recommending investing in the energy sector -some specifically explained how this year the polar vortex may split resulting in a great demand for natural gas and energy.  Did they hear that from meteorologists?
Climate change is man made and man can change the climate.  The first official reports of weather manipulation here in Canada came in the mid 50s. Hydro Quebec used weather manipulation technology to trigger rain.  They wanted more water to feed dams in the North.  The federal government acknowledged that they issued permits three years after the fact.  How this technology evolved we do not know much but you can get a glimpse via registered patents.   Quickly warming up the stratosphere is exactly what HAARP does.  And the same results can be obtained using technology installed on satellites.  How and when such technology is used remains classified and is not taken into account when analyzing weather patters.   That human activity has something to do with this vortex I believe absolutely but I am not certain what specific activities.

Your post peaked my interest about what HAARP is. Holy crap. https://www.wanttoknow.info/war/haarp_weather_modification_electromagnetic_warfare_weapons
Note that HAARP is being retired as more efficient technology installed on satellites is available.  Some pretent that other countries also have HAARP like technology - (Russia, China, Germany, SA).

General Stock Discussion / Re: Images on Getty via 500px

Getty's keywords are awful. I have 17 on there from Cape Cod and only two have the keyword "Cape Cod" which means I'm unlikely to get many sales. Crazy! There's a fall image that has sold recently on Alamy with pumpkins in front of a church on the Cape that has "church" "Spirituality" and "Architecture" as keywords, but not "fall" "pumpkins" "Halloween" "Cape Cod" or "Chatham" - all necessary and much more relevant. Even lighthouses on the Cape don't have the lighthouse name or Cape Cod - and they certainly had those keywords on 500px.

Something to look into. Very disappointing. I'm glad to do my own keywords even if it's more work. What a waste for them to have made my photos unsaleable since there isn't a single keyword that would help people find them. Pumpkins on the lawn of a church don't scream "spirituality."

Their mapping tool is all over the place. When they went to ESP, I discovered that many of my files had missing keywords. You can't do it yourself nowadays, so I had to go through support, and every time I got a nippy note telling me that the description wasn't searchable only keywords, which I knew perfectly well, but they had 'disappeared' the keywords. I did a lot of singles, then a big batch, and I haven't got a round tuit for sorting through the rest. Finding out which keywords are missing takes forever, because it seems that if you had a keyword, and it isn't on the file's page as a keyword, that keyword might still be searchable, as they only put certain keywords on the file page. Not very handy, especially as they took descriptions off the page of non-editorial files too - it's like they've heard of making information available to buyers, but want no truck with it.

Hidden but perhaps still searcheable keywords - thats a new concept... Hard to tell then if modifications to keywords we make appear on Getty and if its worth spending time to revisit them.

True that the keyword tool brings funny keywords...  Seems they modify your description to make it more generic. I doubt they made those changes to make them harder to sell. Maybe they scrapped the specifics to avoid problems because you do not have a property release and make it more generic and appealing to a broad international audience.

"So, I answered my own questions. They are distributing via Getty. Worth leaving those they've chosen there if I can get a percentage of a $499 license - or even a discounted $450 license - or $50-375 for smaller images - on occasion. I think that distributor images rank well on the large sites so it's a positive development, IMHO."

I like the prices I see on Getty and photos appear under my name - but out of that $450, how much would I get if its not an exclusive and this is the specific info I am on a quest to find....

Here is some reading for you:

Thanks.  I went through that post only one poster reports a few sales without much details. I am still wondering... And the funny thing is I tried to join Getty and go an Istock account, although Getty picked about half of my images on 500px.

Hello:

Some of my photos on 500px are now on sale via Getty images following the sale of 500px last summer.   Anyone here in the same situation and has actually sold under that scheme?  Worth adding to my portfolio on 500px ?
