Shutterstock.com / Re: Eligible for data licensing

Can you only have a bare minimum of perhaps very generic keywords and then add the rest after the images are in your port? probably not worth the effort, but a pretty sleazy move by SS.

Thanks Pancaketom - but what will it help with only a few keywords ...?

Shutterstock has got a new 'fantastic' idea - 'Eligible for data licensing' - some of my new photos have been pushed over there and are not in my port. It's incredible how you get 'fooled' over time. >:(

I wouldn't ban the content, just the description of it. So all the thousands of genAI images that say they're Paris, London, Seattle, Rome, Persepolis, etc. could still be uploaded but with general descriptions, not country name, town name, monument name, etc.

So if you searched for Big Ben, London, you wouldn't get any AI images at all. And I don't think images are well labeled on Adobe Stock - when you look at a page of search results you have no idea that there's any genAI content in there. If you just search, AI is on by default - you have to know to turn it off. And there's nothing - unlike with Editorial, or Premium - that shows you which images in a page of results are AI.

I am aware that having stock models pose as scientists in a lab isn't accurate either, but the sale of the fakery with AI is so vast - the entire factory, all the robots, the solar panels, etc. - and the surface appearance of reality is so different that I don't think it's a relevant comparison.

The example images should be labeled generically - "Modern factory with robot-controlled assembly lines" would have been fine

The 'truth' is under pressure. In the media - especially on social media. Now also to a large extent in photography. What's the point of showing pictures of real locations when the pictures are fake? Here is the entrance to Tivoli in Copenhagen to the left - on the right is the AI-style Tivoli entrance.

Whoah.... I mean WHOAH!!!

Whoah, indeed! Super well done, Pace!

Thanks Annie, and great to see you drop in the forum again!

I told you, you had what it takes. ;) Nice to see it all come to fruition.

(My husband Nick has been sick. He woke up one morning with the lefthand side of his face paralysed. It was such a shock - he only recently turned 50yo. But fortunately it wasnt a stroke. He has Bells Palsy. Doc not sure what caused it. Perhaps long working hours and stress, but possibly a virus - or maybe even a reaction to vacc. He cant work as well as he used to, so I've been helping out. It may be permanent or just temporary, just have to wait and see. Anyway, sorry to digress, I just wanted to let you know why I might not be around much.

I have been checking in on the forum occasionally, mainly for updates on Adobe PNGs, and then I saw your sale and had to congratulate you. BTW, I hope you and family have recovered after all the flooding. )

One of our sons had Bells Palsy years ago. It wasn't stress or vaccines.

We are reaching out to let you know that weve enabled a new feature in the Contributor portal to allow some selected contributors to submit content datasets for training Adobes AI and machine learning tools. The new portal feature is called Missions. Our goal is to acquire large volumes of images for specific topics which are explained in the Missions Content brief and for which we pay a fixed amount as published on the Missions tab.

To allow for an easy submission process, we dont require keywording or post processing for these datasets. Neither do we require releases, because we are currently only sourcing content that has no recognizable people or property.

Check out the new Missions feature in the contributor portal and we hope this is of interest to you to participate.

If you have questions, please reach out to [email protected].

Adobe: We take intellectual property rights very seriously. All their AI images are derived from other photographers' images.

What sites are good at dealing with theft and who are not?

SS is certainly not ...!

I had this rejection reason before AI times with photos of the Sacre Coeur in Paris.
Despite several attempts, always this reason for refusal. I had explained it to myself that the topic was simply saturated.

It's on Shutterstock's restricted list.

Sacr-Cr

Located in Paris, France

Very strange as the photo restictions only deals with the interiors ..!?

Interiors and exteriors are unacceptable for both commercial and editorial use

There's roughly over 200k images coming in per day for review. Time yourself and see how many you can inspect in an hour.

Adobe Stock / Re: Adobe Stock generative AI reminders

I'm considering using AI-generated images as a reference for colors and composition, and then redrawing them using Adobe Illustrator with additional elements. Will upload it as Vector illustration. Do I still need to show that it is AI generated? Thanks

Someone asked Matt a the question "if the AI generated image is used as a sketch and heavily processed after, must we always write made with generative AI?" and the answer was yes.
Though, it's not like Adobe really has a way to know that you used an AI or even care, seeing as how many obvious AI images that are not labaled as AI are their database.....

Mat, We need a clear answer.

We do not accept generative AI vector images. I strongly advise against what you are suggesting. Using the tool as inspiration is one thing, auto-trace or something similar I would avoid at all cost.

Thanks for the question,

Mat Hayward

Redrawing is not autotracing.

until Adobe Stock has clear idea of potential legal ramifications of AI generated images and until Adobe Stock has sufficient reviewing system to reject images with potential problems.  That way, contributors don't have to worry about our years of works blocked and start uploading new images again.  Blocking contributors for uploading images that were simply rejected in the past is ridiculous.  It should be up to reviewers to decide they'll take it or reject it, and their responsibility too.  Also get rid of that scary disclaimer when submitting images.

Exactly. Another issue is that it seems like you cant uphold copyright for AI generated images. They are like poblic domain - at least untill further court rulings.

On this homepage you can see if your images are used to train the system:

Adobe Stock / Re: Adobe Stock generative AI reminders
« on: August 29, 2023, 02:40 »
As I was looking through all those AI generated stock photos, I realized 70-80% of stock photos as we know can be generated by AI.  So, why bother to shoot stock photos anymore unless it's editorial news photos, I thought.  It's over for real camera shooters.  AI generators don't have to hire models, travel to locations and setup lightings.  Can't compete against those.
And further, why would anyone buy an AI generated stock image, when they could just as well have their own unique image AI generated?

It's easier and cheaper to buy on Adobe Stock or Shutterstock on cheap subs.

But doing it yourself you can get exactly what you want.

Here is an interesting web page. You can type your name or image and see if your images are used as training. Some of mine are there. I hope someone will go to court to stop this madness.

General Stock Discussion / Re: AI again ...
« on: August 07, 2023, 03:33 »
I think this will be like when digital took over film. Many of us did not like digital at first but now all of use use digital...... AI baby. That is the future.
[/quote]

I agree. But keep in mind that - at least for the time being - AI generated images are dependent on there being 'real' images that the algorithms can use. So it requires someone to take pictures - if the picture material available now is not sufficient for the years to come.

There is also the whole copyright part - but the concept of copyright is getting narrower and more eroded these days.

But my original question is whether there is a business in paying to e.g. Midjourney to thene 10 cents on a picture?

Just got a few of my AI images approved from Adobe. It took nearly six weeks to get six out of 110 images approved. Good news some of the six are selling. The rest of my images are still waiting in the box for approval.

Midjourney ..? Do you think it is worth it?

because of how effective Fireflys integration into Photoshop has become

I lol'ed. Almost sounds like a PR-stunt from Adobe to make people think Firefly is amazing. Because Firefly is (however fun to use) far from amazing, let alone useful in advertising at this point.

I don't think Adobe accept Firefly generated images. There is a logo on the images. And the images are just TERRIBLE and useless ..!

Dreamstime.com / Re: DT is a Nightmarestime
« on: August 06, 2023, 06:35 »
It's incredible, I've been stopped at $97 for several months... it's like they stopped showing my photos only to not give me the $100 I get every 2 years! This business is a nightmare. Is there a trick? Buying my own photos through a fictitious account just to get the $100? It is certain that as soon as I have my $100, I close my account.

Dreamstime is not a good seller. Not for me. Unfortunately.

Jo Ann Snover - Great post ...  ;D

48
Stock photography is coming to an end has been the most consistent topic on this forum for the last 15 years. And yet, here we are.

15 years ...???  ;D

49
I agree with Ann - but the persons port is amazing. Seems that it's the end of photography. But the again - to create AI-images you have to have real photographs to use as modelling ...?

I expect Mat Hayward to come up with an answer.
