General Stock Discussion / Spanish Architecture Pics on Zazzle?
« on: February 19, 2013, 23:07 »
Can I sell my architecture images on Zazzle without property releases? Like shots of random buildings taken from the sidewalk in downtown Madrid. I asked Zazzle, but they never responded.

iStockPhoto.com / Https & iStockphoto
« on: April 15, 2011, 09:29 »
At one point, wasn't there an https for iStockphoto? Today, I receive a "This Connection is Untrusted" message in Firefox. Http works fine. Did something change, or am I just imagining things?

Thanks.

General Stock Discussion / Do You Ever Use Your Lens Hood?
« on: March 08, 2011, 16:08 »
Just wondering. I never do.

It went something like requiring people who had payments of $600 or more to corporations to report it or something like that. Anyway, it looks to have been struck down. Though, why it appears as an amendment to the S. 223: FAA Air Transportation Modernization and Safety Improvement Act is beyond me.

Also, it looks like Canada is or is about to strike down the new "metered Internet bill", which would have done away with unlimited Internet plans.

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/crtc-will-rescind-unlimited-use-internet-decision-or-ottawa-will-overturn-it/article1892522/

Thus concludes your happy news for the day.

General Stock Discussion / EIN Number Question
« on: October 14, 2010, 12:11 »
Have any of you who reside in the US ever thought about obtaining an EIN number? I have read that it is slightly safer to use an EIN instead of your SSN on W9 Forms. I am a bit paranoid when it comes to my SSN.

Selling Stock Direct / So I made a Microstock Site for Me ...
« on: October 13, 2010, 16:24 »
I decided to use Ktools to create my own microstock site just for curiosities sake. It was fairly easy to implement, but the mysql stuff did spook me a little. Anyway, I was just wondering what you all think of it. I have tested the payment system with Paypal Sandbox, and it seems that everything is working properly. Here is the link if you want to take a look: http://rfstocks.com/

Also, sometimes the site seems slow. Then again, maybe it's just me.

General Stock Discussion / About Copyright Registration
« on: August 05, 2010, 11:03 »
For those of you who have registered your images with the Copyright office, is there any point to doing this if your images have been online for years? From what I have read, it seem that if your images have been available or "published" for more than a month then you are basically wasting your money with the copyright. Unpublished images, or those that have been published within a month or maybe it was three months, allow you to receive statuary damages as well as other types of damages. Thanks.

Site Related / Glitch or Me?
« on: December 13, 2009, 14:50 »
I've noticed that when I first type in microstockgroup.com I receive a page can not be found error. But if I type in microstockgroup.com/index.php it works fine. And if I retype in microstockgroup.com after using the index.php in the other url, it then works perfectly. But I guess when I reboot the machine or turn it off something goes wrong because if I turn it back on and try to connect to microstockgroup.com, the site can not be found error returns. Just thought I would say something in case it is not a problem on my end. Anyone else have this problem?

iStockPhoto.com / The Word "Of"
« on: October 02, 2009, 10:40 »
I just tried a search using the words "field of red maize" on iStockphoto, and I don't receive any results. But using the words field and red maize will give me results. Why does the word "of" ruin everything (I've been wondering about this for a while). It's not a big deal to me; I'm just curious.

iStockPhoto.com / Out of Curiousity ...
« on: September 17, 2009, 12:52 »
Do you think iStockphoto will ever make it so that individual files can be exclusive? I think the reason they don't do it right now is because it's too difficult to track our images; however, with websites such as Tineye making this easier to do, maybe they will change their minds in the future? Just wanted some feedback on that. Thanks.

Canon / Worth the Upgrade?
« on: August 30, 2009, 22:43 »
Have any of you ever upgraded from the Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro to the 180mm f/3.5 L macro lens? I may do this at some point, and I just wondered if anyone who had done this thought it was worth the upgrade. Thanks.

Alamy.com / Alamy's RM License
« on: June 08, 2009, 10:23 »
If I have an image set as RM on Alamy, can I sell that image on Zazzle or Cafepress as a print? The file isn't exclusive to Alamy. Thanks.

iStockPhoto.com / I Can't Tick off "I Agree"
« on: June 02, 2009, 14:16 »
Hi. For the new non-exclusive license agreement are we supposed to check off or write that we agree to the terms at the bottom of the document? Because I don't see where to write this. I tried four different browsers but nothing seems to show anything at the end of the page. I'm confused. I should add that I can see the non-exclusive text/document; I just don't see where I'm supposed to sign it because that part doesn't show up for me.

I made one of those Squidoo websites a year or two ago, and I've recently added the ability for individuals to add a link to their gallery on the lens. So if you want to add yours and gain some free publicity feel free. Scroll down three fourths of the way down the page and look for the subtitle "List Your Gallery" then click "add to this list". Here's the link:

http://www.squidoo.com/sell-merchandise

It wont show up immediately because I have to approve each of the links. This helps keep spam in check. Give it a day or two. Oh, and the website is about microstock in case you're wondering.

General Stock Discussion / Vectorstock Pricing: Too Cheap?
« on: May 10, 2009, 22:21 »
What do you think of Vectorstock's prices? It seems to me like they make almost everything one credit. Lots of these files would sell for ten credits at iStockphoto or other agencies. Maybe more. I guess they're just trying to compete. But still, it seems far too cheap to me.

Here's an example of a one credit file that should probably be more like ten credits: http://www.vectorstock.com/royalty-free-vector/46340

Again, just curious as to what everyone else thinks.

I will give them credit for doing a decent job on re-designing their website, though.

General Stock Discussion / Internet Caps and Microstock
« on: April 02, 2009, 18:35 »
Since Internet providers like AT&T are increasingly using Internet caps, do you think this will affect microstock in any way? I suspect this would affect huge file download sizes and video sales mostly.

Off Topic / Thoughts on My Website Redesign?
« on: March 02, 2009, 18:54 »
I finished my website redesign the other day, and I just thought I would ask you opinions about it. Word of warning: IE6 and under web browsers will not display the site correctly. This is due to me creating the site mostly in CSS. Thanks for your thoughts.

General Stock Discussion / Why No HTTPS?
« on: February 27, 2009, 15:28 »
Is it really that difficult to implement an Https website? To be fair, of the big six, Dreamstime and Stockxpert both use Https. But the others don't. I'm under the understanding that Https will encrypt everything; thus, making it more secure. Perhaps the other sites use something else? Not a rant, just curious.

Shutterstock.com / Something Odd
« on: January 19, 2009, 10:16 »
Perhaps it's just me, but when I googled my Shutterstock portfolio earlier today nothing showed up. If I directly enter my link in the url box though, it works fine. This applies to all individual images as well. Is this a glitch or something, or has it always been this way? It seems that, in the past, I could google my portfolio with ease.

General Stock Discussion / Too Bright?
« on: January 17, 2009, 23:25 »
So I have a new laptop, but I'm fairly certain that the monitor on it needs to be calibrated. On my new laptop the image below looks good, but on my old one it looks blown out. Just to satisfy my curiosity, how does the image look on your monitor? Thanks in advance.

Canon / Buying a Refurbished Canon 5D
« on: January 10, 2009, 19:52 »
So I was thinking of purchasing a Canon 5d from either Adorama or B&H Photo, and I was wondering if any of you had ever done this? I'm mostly concerned with the warranty. Adorama is offering a 90 day warranty and B&H Photo is offering a thirty day warranty. But I was reading online that Canon still did a one year warranty for refurbished products. So is there another warranty that comes with the camera or something? I'm sure these guys will not sell me a "crap camera", but I just want to be careful. Thanks for any responses.

General Stock Discussion / Found One of My Images in Use
« on: November 01, 2008, 16:03 »
At least, I think I did. The image in question (a green toy soldier figurine on Palin's desk) is so small that it's difficult for me to tell. Here it is anyway (in use):

For those of you who upgraded from a 40D or an XSI to a higher quality camera (like a 5D), have you noticed an increase in sales? It seems that whenever I'm looking at iStockphoto, the pictures that are created from 5D and greater cameras sell a lot more. Maybe it's just my imagination. Most people say that the lenses are more important than the camera bodies, which is why I'm asking whether or not it really matters that much. Thanks for your responses.

Is there any advantage to having the same user name across all the microstock sites? I was thinking that it might make it a little easier for buyers to find our images. Thanks.
