My RPD is 0.5 USD

For video? I thought the original question was about videos?

Steve
True, no, for photos! For video I have sales from 63 cents to 12 USD. But I don't have a lot (just 100).

Alexander, can you travel to Colombia and get a Colombian ID? After our local elections you can start to have one in Ccuta.

Photography Equipment / Re: The Best Unlimited Cloud Storage?
« on: September 30, 2019, 23:07 »
Hello. Sorry for reviving this thread. I want to ask you for your experience with cloud storage. I want cloud storage for my day to day work (which is not photography) but I also want to storage almost 2 TB of photos/movies/my university stuff. So I want a combination of just storage but also SYNC cloud storage such as Google Drive or Dropbox. I've seen Dropbox is kind of expensive... it's like 10 usd per month for 2TB... and also google (7 usd/month/2TB). So I want to ask you what's your opinion on sync.com and idrive.com, do they work as smoothly as Dropbox or Google Drive? I also saw Jottacloud and Blackbaze but I don't think they "sync" my work... right? For example if I'm working on a Word document in Dropbox I can syncing very conveniently but I don't know about this unlimited storage if they are like this (I don't know if you understand me)... Thank you for any help.

TL;DR: I want a cheaper alternative to Dropbox or Google Drive with the fast doc sync possibilities, not just backup or storage

EDIT: I just read again the whole thing. So Jottacloud and Backblaze can backup my other clouds right? because I have like 5 free clouds with good sync (Drive, Dropbox, Box...). So I can work on those clouds and then backup everything to Jottacloud or Backblaze? What are your experiences with those two? I see their price are 6-7.5 usd per month for unlimited space. I think I have like 3TB (approx). Or should I go for the 5TB on other sites which are like 10-12?

EDIT 2: I re-read everything again. I don't want that mirrored thing that they delete your files if you are not connecting the HD or the PC in a month. So I would like a 5 TB "normal" sync cloud storage. Is there something good like Dropbox or Google but for 6-8 usd/month?

For me, only old photos are sold but only if I upload new content. I recently uploaded a few photos to try this. Suddenly 6 sales made! (that's a lot for me since I'm not a pro).

All my old photos were new photos at one time?  ;)

Part of the old and new as I see it, is we only know after time, which "new" photos have caught on and sold. So if I upload 100 new photos and a year later 4 are selling, that means 96 are not, but I see sales for the 4 and say, old photos are selling.

Old photos that sold this week included the usual personal best that sell over and over, plus a snow throwing tractor in the Winter, a Christmas design and another Winter holiday related image. Some buyers plan ahead pretty far. If you sell calendar type images, they are at the printers by now. Christmas ads are being created and set up.

An out of date 2013 image sold twice last week and one from the same series did also. I don't try to predict even sales, and what's funny is, when someone does well and has level sales, they complain it's rigged? I'd see level sales as a compliment that I figured out how to get a good flow from a variety, instead of the peaks and valleys that I experience, because I'm limited.

New photos in the last couple weeks, one sold in two days, which means I guessed right. Otherwise, in January I'll be the same as many others with the three good months of Fall being nice and suddenly the New Year slump will fall on me.
I agree!

Having a monster month on SS...

You have some big sales in September, right?

6 large ELs (including a $90 sale) and 3 clip sales making a big difference this month. Don't know what they did to change the algos, but more please!

Full report out in a few days on my blog.
Have you uploaded more content recently than usual? I tend to think they reward people that's constantly uploading.

I've uploaded very few pics over the past 4 months (only about 350) vs something like 120 clips (been focused on uploading clips since I purchased a gimbal). So I don't think it's a significant factor.

Most of what has sold as ELs are at least a year old, one of them three years old.
SS works in mysterious ways

It looks like face detection software has been implemented.  I uploaded a photo with a crowd of people with their backs to the camera.  There was one person I hadn't noticed in the corner who was facing the camera.  The system flagged it right away.

Yes, correct. If there is what the system determines to be a person in the system with no release attached you should receive a popup warning asking you to confirm your intent to submit without a release.

-Mat

Mat, I noticed that the checkbox is not active for videos.
Are there any plans to expand the editorial program to videos?

Not that I am aware of at this time. MSG will be the first place I announce if/when that does happen.

-Mat
Mat, what's an "extensive" collection of editorial photos? 1000 or more illustrative editorial?

Shutterstock.com / Re: .60 cent footage??
« on: September 26, 2019, 08:41 »
Yeah, but Shutterstock also gives you 150,200,300$ commission per download just as often as the 1.5 sales.

No one in the industry gives you 300$ per download.

Just curious: what kind of clip does it take to earn $150, $200, or $300 per download at SS?

Is it 4K? 8K? or something else???

I assume its 4K
I wish I could tell you that Im Gods gift to cinematography, but Im far from it, so I assume its just a matter of a client needing this specific clip for a large commercial use (by the commission size).

Thanks for your response.

Again, just for clarity are you the one who earned such sums for clips? Or have you heard of someone else earning such sums?

I find the inconsistency of income from similar kinds of assets to be really mind boggling.  :o

Im definitely the one that got them and hopefully keep getting them and wish the same if not more to you.
And yes, I also get 1.5$ per sales but Im good with them.

I always mention that Im a Huge fan of Shutterstock.

I'm a big Shutterstock fan too. :)

And I'm happy for your success with video there. I've just uploaded to SS 600+ videos, which literally have just gone live. So I hope to see some of those nice sales too. :)

Fantastic, I just passed the 10K clips mark.

I started like with 15. Now I just upload to SS, iS, AS, EE, and for other purposes, P5 and MP. I recently dropped BS and DP because they have a very low rpd...

I'm on pace for BME in September. Quite surprising.

They changed something on SS at the beginning of the month and some contributors are seeing the positive effects of it.
Others don't. They change their f*cking algorithm and it works for some people. For me this month, no. But previous months I have seem some crazy changes. SS is a casino.

Use todayis20.com. It's a good web page that shows more info on your iStock sales.
