I've had a bit of sales spike in the past few days, an unexpected nice surprise

hahaha nahh that doesn't bother me at all, just thinking of what a perspective buyer might think. I think that the practice of putting top shots aka what the other major agencies do (Fotolia is my fav for that aspect) just makes the sites that much more attractive to look and buy from... just imo ;-)

Just the basics, daily, weekly, monthly, yearly sales/downloads and views if possible. Of course happy for the priority to be marketing now :)

Heya John

No offense but the image on the front page of a young ballerina girl doing a mid air split over a meadow field looks off and could put off potential buyers imo. The colors and white balance look fake and the whole thing just doesn't look very appealing. FYI I don't usually post this type of comments :)

Heya, I'm curious as on the site when I orgonise by downloads and in descending order, my sales don't show up (all images come up with 0 downloads), only when I look into transactions I can see the image that had a sale, any reason for this?

Bit quiet on this thread, how are the new sites coming along Rahul ? I'm looking forward to not having to log into each my agency every day to check my stats :)

« on: March 05, 2009, 00:01 »

I think you will find the same for most others in here Jim where shutterstock makes between 30% to 60% of their microstock income. This is mainly due their size ,number of customers and low prices as opposed to other places. Still this thread isn't about performance of DT but about the usability factor, by which it seems most of us contributors seem rather pleased with DT.

Reading all the replies it's clear what the majority here think :)

I'm in the same boat as everyone else, love DT, their stats, growing sales, site etc... it's my No3 site in terms of income but No1 in terms of use

General Stock Discussion / Re: Feb 2009 Earnings breakdown
« on: March 01, 2009, 16:40 »
Jan to Feb-2009

Shutterstock (POI 47%) up 42%
iStock (POI 13%) up  31%
Fotolia (POI 17%)  up  266% (growth due to adding files to unsold section)
Dreamstime (POI 10%) up  58%
123 RF (POI 6%) down 35%
Stock Expert (POI 6%) down 2%
SnapVillage (POI 0%) down 22%
BigStock (POI 1%) up  14%
Monthly % Growth up  41%
BME down 44%

Summary:

Overall not a bad month. Sales are up 41% over January, mainly due to new material being added. Income at StockExpert and 123RF taking a hit, seemingly due to subscription sales. Nice to see growth at iStock as that site has been on a decline for me for past six months. Looking forward to seeing the end of March figures now, good luck everyone!

POI = Percentage of Income

iStockPhoto.com / Re: how to be non-exclusive...for dummies
« on: February 23, 2009, 02:02 »
You need to make yourself a generic model release that can be used across all websites (see mine for example http://www.meder.net/files/MODEL-RELEASE-CM-BLANK.pdf ) Also I would recommend starting on Shutterstock and Dreamtime and then do the rest ie, FT, BigStock, 123 and SX.

Dreamstime.com / Re: My first exclusive on DT
« on: February 18, 2009, 05:26 »

Personally I love DT and it's in my top three sites, next to SS and IS.  I don't ever the point of quitting a site, it's not like being with a ms site can cause you negative income so once images are up, might as well leave them there. My EXL image was just a smiple background image of some clouds against a blue sky, which only proves that what usually sells in microstock doesn't have to be out of this world art.... I'm now trying to tailor my shooting to be more what sells as opposed to what I like, a question of balance really to prevent me from hours of editing low commercial potential images... :)

Excuse me if this was discussed before but how about a "set" feature that would allow us to group our images by sets (selectable via lookstat and sets also to be named by users) that would also give a total income per set, per site. Something like that would then give photographers a better idea which of their shoots were the most worthwhile....

Photo Critique / Re: Help me to pass Istock initIAL test
« on: February 16, 2009, 07:25 »

Hi there, I would say you could have a chance with images 3 and 4 but forget 1 and 2 as they don't really have any commercial value, no offence. As a general rule iStock have some of the strictest criteria around, closely followed by Crestock. After a quick look at your images on flickr while quite nice I think you need to shoot a bit more to get into iStock anyway...

Once Fotolia is added which site is next in line to be added ? Just curious, personally I would like to see 123RF added next :) I'm actually finding your stats quite useful now that you've pointed me to the earnings page with all images laid out... great work, keep it up Rahul!
