Thanks, dirkr! That's exactly right, they match Fotolia's ranks, I didn't notice the drop-down, my bad!

As a contributor myself I know there is a long way to go before the portal is perfect but I can assure you we will continue to work to make it better for contributors.
So nice to see all improvements you're making. Thanks for that! Now what I would really love to see is number of views for each image (as it was on Fotolia). That would be awesome. Keep up the great work!

May be it was there before, but I noticed only today that there is new indicator POSITION on header next to lifetime downloads and earnings. Really curious how that is calculated, as it differs a bit of what was my weekly rank in Fotolia.

4
And how can we even track sales (simple chronological list), maybe I missed it?

Seems like ice has shifted, just noticed that my images submitted three days ago has been approved already.

Newbie Discussion / Re: Re-uploading rejected photos

I guess it's OK?
It is OK. I personally don't wait at all, if I don't agree with reviewers decision, I resubmit right away (we're all humans after all, everyone makes mistakes). Or if there really was something I missed (most probably related to intellectual property), I correct it and resubmit. Most of the time my resubmissions are approved.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: I don't like iStock but...
« on: January 27, 2019, 16:24 »
Actually I would really want TO LIKE iStock. There are lots to like about it, but unfortunately the fundamentals seem shaky.
  • I can only imagine what a total mess must be their IT infrastructure. Not only they can't display sales data on time, there is no guarantee that they are correct. And then there are lots of duplicate rows in downloads list. Not being able to correctly provide such a vital data (for contributors) unfortunately only further confirms statement 1.
  • I personally think that their exclusive vs non-exclusive contributors approach is not sustainable. They have to promote their exclusives, but that inevitably means showing not the best content for their customers. So in the end of the day it hurts everyone.
  • Their keywords logic just doesn't work in real life. Not being able to accurately describe your images means customers will never be able to find them.
So it really is very sad, but I don't see any signs of recovery in foreseeable future. At least not in my port. I wonder if the previous year was down or up for their exclusives?

Oh, wow! Thank you so much for your hard work! Really appreciated. However it is surprising that it has to be done and reported by someone outside SS. Apparently they have no working algorithms or human power to even bother with this issue.

If someone from AS reads this, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep at least info about number of views for each image!

Photography Equipment / Re: The Best Unlimited Cloud Storage?

I personally use DropBox Plus and couldn't be more happy. For 99.00/year I have all my images synced on all computers. I also can access them at any time from my phone or iPad. Super convenient, easy to use interface, in other words it just works. All in all, simply amazing value for money.

Hi Jacob,
not really for me (don't have that much files to have own shop), but congrats on very professionally looking product! Very well done, best of luck with it!

Hello Mikhail!
Wow, you have developed very interesting tool to be honest. Certainly it has a potential to become very valuable resource. Have the best of luck to improve and tweak it further, looking forward to it's development!

Advertising is only one of many options if a goal is to monetize one's channel. There are many options and ways to go. Working on referrals, selling products directly, also sites like https://www.patreon.com/ become more and more popular, etc. I believe it really depends on content and target audience, as generic banner advertising could work with only very big viewership.

Stocksy / Re: Is it so simple to get in?
« on: January 14, 2019, 13:38 »
If you want to be accepted by Stocksy desaturate a little the colors of your photos and make them a little brownish that's all
+include some transgender santaclaus wearing a plastic horsehead, shot on kodak portra. They like to accumulate unique stuff that's guaranteed to make that 0.1 sale / year.
:D :D :D

DepositPhotos / Re: Photo sales compared to Shutterstock

Is DP DepositPhotos the same as DPC Dollar Photo Club? Really confused.
Dollar Photo Club doesn't exist anymore btw.

Heard a lot of issues with DP in the past, dollar clubs, crazy low prices and royalties. Ha s it is become a better place to be now?
I keep uploading just because it's very easy there. Sales are basically flat for last years, DP makes 2,5% of what I get from SS.

For other agencies may be, but definitely it won't work for iS, as they literally require all fields there are in their form.

Shutterstock.com / Re: "It's not stock, it's Shutterstock"
« on: January 11, 2019, 12:43 »
I wouldn't worry about spam all that much and seemingly SS doesn't as well. In similar manner Google (and anyone else) doesn't worry about anything after page 1.

20
The problem is that other agencies require specific set of data in order for MR to be accepted, so if DT (or any other) sample doesn't include shoot date or whatever iS, SS, AS or else requires, they just won't accept it.

then on the first search they have to wade through thousands of crap similars.
On the first search they would get "Most Relevant" tab results which actually are quite good if you compare it with any other agency. You are correct about "Fresh content" though, it's just sad.

General - Stock Video / Re: About keywording
« on: January 10, 2019, 16:31 »
In Fotolia it made significant difference for me. Number as well as order of keywords is important there. As they clearly state that on their site. Don't know how it will be in future now with Adobe Stock.. In all other agencies 50 is fine in my experience, haven't noticed any differences. But I talk only about images here, can't really comment on clips on Pond5 though.

Hey John, congrats! Informative and nicely done!
Seems like starting YouTube channels is some kind of a trend now, cause I started mine today :) In similar manner I tried to figure out how much money one can realistically make in this industry: https://youtu.be/YuBLhfuxDdo
Anyways, best wishes with your channel, subscribed! :)
