Shutterstock.com / Downloads per day
« on: June 22, 2006, 08:39 »
How does everyone do with their downloads per day?  Do you guys see a drop off in downloads on Thursdays, Friday, Saturdays and Sundays?  Or is it consistent every day?  I'm just wondering because I see consistent downloads for a few days in a row then it drops a bit and then it picks up.  I have about 60 photos and average about 5 or 6 downloads a day.

I am submitting to SS and as of late I'm having a hard time getting a majority of pictures accepted, but I just want to make sure that they don't boot me for any reason like that.

I have looked but can't find anything indicating that they would kick me out or suspend my account if I have a particular acceptance ratio.  Right now I'm at about 60%, so I'm just wondering if there's anything I'm supposed to watch out for.

I usually submit 1 or 2 pictures from a set to make sure that they are acceptable before submitting them all.

Can anyone shed some light on this just so that I don't get myself into trouble?

Shutterstock.com / Editorial pictures at SS
« on: June 16, 2006, 09:06 »
I see that pictures at SS can be editorial.  What does that mean?  How does that work and what pictues can I upload under that category?  I'm not too familiar with this and I would just like some clarification :)

Thanks in advance

Cameras / Lenses / Canon 75-300mm USM
« on: June 12, 2006, 08:12 »
Just wondering what people thing of this lens.  I think its this one.  Its about $299 CDN.  Unfortunately no image stabilizer yet, although I really really really want one - but then again, its almost 400 dollars more.  So what do you guys think of this lens.  Here's the link.

It would just be interim until Shutterstock picks up and I can resell this one and buy the better one.

Bigstock.com / Something interesting
« on: June 12, 2006, 08:09 »
Not that it affects me too much because well, BigStock is incredibly slow at approving and they don't put up the sales numbers either, so I thought I'd just mention something.  It was interesting because a stock market photo that everyone else has accepted was rejected by BigStock.  I would have never thought they'd be rejecting something on composition when DT, SS, and FT (not as strict, I know) did not.

StockXpert.com / "Too many similar images"
« on: June 07, 2006, 09:00 »
This doesn't make any sense to me.  I uploaded too many similar images, yet they've deleted them all?  Why not pick the better ones or the ones they like.  Thats pretty dumb on their part...because I'm just gonna upload them 2 at a time now...or 1 at a time and they probably will accept them anyways

Any comments on this

StockXpert.com / How is StockXpert doing for you?
« on: June 06, 2006, 08:16 »
I am just wondering how other people have been doing for June on StockXpert.  I have 90 images on there and I've only had 2 downloads since June 1.  I was expecting more from what everyone is saying but I haven't gotten any.  Are there any particular shots that sell better?

Is anyone having the same slowness-type thing as me?

General Stock Discussion / CitizenImage
« on: June 01, 2006, 10:29 »
Does anyone have any sales at CitizenImage.  I haven't bothered to upload more than 2 pics because of the ridiculous amount of time it takes since it won't take the data from the JPEG file.

General Stock Discussion / The Month Of May
« on: May 31, 2006, 18:11 »
Here's the breakdown for the month:

Bigstock - 9%
Shutterstock - 4% (2 images)
Dreamstime - 42%
Fotolia - 8%
123RF - 37%

I just got into StockXpert...so hopefully if things hold up it will all change and I'll have some more data

Cameras / Lenses / Opinions on lenses
« on: May 31, 2006, 10:12 »
I would really like to hear your opinions on lenses

I am currently looking at two Sigma lenses.  What do you guys think of these two:

Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 DG MACRO
http://www.sigmaphoto.com/lenses/lenses_all_details.asp?id=3304&navigator=3

or
Sigma 55-200mm F4-5.6 DC
http://www.sigmaphoto.com/lenses/lenses_all_details.asp?id=3288&navigator=6

The lens I currently have is the one that came with the camera.  It is the EF-S 18-55mm one.  I'm not sure which one is better or if there is a better one to pick within the same price range of about $200.  Let me know what you think.  Also wondering whether to go with the macro or not.  So very torn.

General Stock Discussion / Rejections
« on: May 30, 2006, 10:21 »
I just found this very interesting.  I had finally got a rejection from 123RF after submitting about 108 photos.  Its about time they actually take a look.  But the funny thing is, they rejected one photo of an invoice and accepted another, both the same, just with different background.  Same with DT, although they claimed one was blurry and out of focus, yet the same photo that I put a black background was accepted.  Weird.  I don't mind though, I'm up to 40 photos on DT which isn't too bad.

Dreamstime.com / Dreamstime's latest change
« on: May 29, 2006, 13:51 »
I don't know if anyone has noticed but Dreamstime has just kind of gotten involved in a 'macro' environment as well as royalty free.  This could spell out big payouts for those with pictures in demand.  There's 4 new options available - 2 of which are macro-esque in that pictures can be used on items being sold and such over the web and as products.

I'm not too HUGE on all the happenings of the micro world, but I haven't seen this happen elsewhere, which kind of indicates that there might be a movement up and coming soon towards hybrid sites of some sort.  I have no idea if I'm making sense, I've been at work too long and the heat in Toronto is ridiculous - its 35 degrees outside...like whoa.

All I do know now is that earning potential is through the roof.  This is my opinion obviously, but the amount of money that can be earned is fairly greater now if the concept takes off.  I know that you can earn 65% on Alamy, but for the average microstocker who's just trying to build up for that kind of stuff, this could be a good boost.  As well, Alamy isn't that accessible yet (until the FTP comes in).

So, I do like this option and I like the possibilities.  Hopefully it works out because its a win-win for everyone.

StockXpert.com / More pictures...please comment
« on: May 25, 2006, 16:16 »
Hi again, I have a few more pictures for commenting, just to see what people think

I had these accepted by Dreamstime today so I'm a bit confident in their ability to be accepted by StockXpert

StockXpert.com / Need some help :) Please
« on: May 24, 2006, 08:55 »
My month of waiting has finally come up on Sunday.  I would really like to know if you guys would be able to help me out and help me pick my 5 to submit to StockXpert that way I don't have to get rejected again. Would that be possible?

I'd really appreciate it.

123RF / Looks like 123RF is back to 'normal'
« on: May 24, 2006, 08:39 »
Normal being no sales.  Its been on and off for the last week or so, but now I've gone through 3 days without any.  I was just starting to get excited too.

Alamy.com / Alamy adding FTP upload option?
« on: May 23, 2006, 13:26 »
I've heard news that Alamy plans to add an internet uploading option.  What do people think of this?  Are people going to join/add more photos?  What do you guys think?

I know its gonna entice me to try it out.

iStockPhoto.com / Is iStock rejecting people flat out now?
« on: May 22, 2006, 11:13 »
I got a message that iStock won't accept me.  Is that forever?  Or just for a limited period of time?  I guess Getty is getting very strict...bah

123RF / How is everyone doing on 123RF
« on: May 16, 2006, 10:22 »
I just applied and got 60 pictures accepted within 2 days.  Thats fantastic and I made a sale in my first 2 days which is also very nice, although its only 22 cents.  I'm just wondering how everyone else is doing with this site.

As well, it seems that either they love my photographs that Dreamstime hates, or they are easy acceptances....any thoughts on that?

Bigstock.com / Bigstock has lost all of my respect
« on: May 16, 2006, 07:14 »
In terms of a corporation, Bigstock has lost all of my respect.  They have been having server problems for over a month, which is pretty sad because their entire system is based on the functionality of their server.  I had a response to one of my e-mails saying they had a renegade rejecting everything and server problems - but what it seems here is the lack of proper control by management.

It would appear that this could possibly be the future of all mismanaged microstock companies that don't have the proper skills to adapt properly to the ever-changing environment.  What I know is that you can't blame your own inadequacies forever.

Just my thoughts.

Dreamstime.com / Dreamstime is killing me
« on: May 15, 2006, 22:48 »
They take lots of pride in rejecting me  ::)

I have 16 photos uploaded so far out of maybe 35 or more...and I have a few in pending too, so more rejections on the wayyyyyy...they are pretty harsh on me considering the ones they reject are accepted by almost all the other sites.

Nonetheless, I know that it means that that I can use it to get better, but I thought I'd just comment on previous threads where I read that Dreamstime was letting up a bit.

Adobe Stock / Fotolia's Fast Reviews Bye bye?
« on: May 14, 2006, 09:50 »
Is it just me or has Fotolia's once pretty legendary reviewing system suddenly gone byebye?

I have submitted quite a few photos about a week ago and nothing yet.  :(

Dreamstime.com / First Dreamstime sale
« on: May 09, 2006, 10:22 »
Hey everyone,

I just wanted to let you know that I made a sale on Dreamstime today.  It was for $0.50 which is alright I guess - is that because they used the old credits?

Anywho, I'm really excited since I only have 9 pics up and from what you guys are saying, that is pretty good :)

Hopefully I can bring some more downloads

Have a good one

General Stock Discussion / This is BULL
« on: May 05, 2006, 17:58 »
I was just rejected from Shutterstock after I pulled my images from there.  Someone really has a problem over there.  I thought you have to submit 10 images before they look at you?  What the %^$?  I mean, I'm trying to do them a favour and save them time and I get the shaft.  I would understand if I had submitted my images and they were bad, but I was taking them off ... and they don't even listen to that
