Panthermedia.net / Re: Is Panther's Uploading System Down?
« on: February 12, 2013, 09:41 »
Hi Everyone  :)

Are the rest of you still experiencing FTP problems with Panther?

I got back a response this morning from Panther about my support ticket from yesterday.  Their response was this...

"Our computer scientists checked this yesterday and the FTP upload works fine here. So please try it once again."

Well, I tried today and I am still getting the same problems as I did on February 9th, February 10, February 11... etc.

So... apparently... their computer "scientists" ;D --- are bunch of morons.

Hi Everyone  :)

I contacted Panther today (February 11) and received a response from a member of their technical support team that the problem had been fixed.  They advised me to reupload the files again.

Well, I did that today and I was only able to import 4 of the 10 files that I uploaded... the other 6 had an error message. I tried uploading the 6 files again and got the same error message..... "There was an error saving the file into the database" which is the same error message I received on February 9th, .... so apparently the problem they are having with their uploading process has not been resolved.  :(

Hi All,

I FTPed 10 files to Panther yesterday (Saturday) and they are not getting imported into my account.  I tried uploading them again and the same problem.  I then tried uploading them via the browser method which can only upload 5 files at a time and those are not showing up either.

Anyone else experiencing any difficulties?

Pond5 / Re: Pond Website Changes -- Grrrrrr!
« on: January 30, 2013, 16:41 »
fotoVoyager,

I have always liked Pond myself, I have had a few sales there... but I don't like the website changes as it makes it harder to submit photos. It's like you have to jump through too many unnecessary hoops to submit an image.

IMHO, camera and software used should not be a required field that you have to complete for submitting each and every image.  Ditto for creation date.  The only time a creation date is valuable is if it is an editorial photo-- particularly a photo journalistic shot... where it might be good to know when the photo was created.

Pond5 / Pond Website Changes -- Grrrrrr!
« on: January 30, 2013, 14:04 »
Hi Everyone,

What do all you think of the website changes at Pond?  I really don't like them!  It seems like they are making it more difficult for people to submit their work:

The things that annoy me when uploading pictures at Pond are:

1. Camera Model/Software Used is a required field.
2. Date Created is a required field.

Anyone else find these to be a royal pain in the butt?

Also... does anyone have trouble with Pond reading the IPTC info of your photos?  For some reason Pond reads the keywords and descriptions just fine.. but it doesn't read the titles. This problem was in the old version too.

Hi Guys  :)

Thanks for all your replies, I sincerely appreciate your help!!  :)

I did find that paintshop pro has a chromatic aberation tool.  I played around with that and here are my results.  Compare these thumbnails to my earlier ones, and see what you think.

I think these results are better... and while I could probably use the chromatic aberation tool on those aqua funky looking blue sections of the pine tree branches... that color (which was changed from purple) is soooo close to matching the sky now... that I think I would risk washing the sky out or bits of it anyway, if I did make such an attempt.

And as for Joann --- Yes... paint shop pro does have masks, layers and various blends including color.

It also has a "change to target" brush which will allow you to match any hue while preserving the texture/detail... unlike the paint brush tool.

Anywho... I'll give your method a try and see how that works for me. Hopefully it will work well.

It's always good to pick up a few extra techniques when the other methods (that usually work in most cases) fail.  ;D

Well darn again..  :(

I am using Paint Shop Pro... not Photoshop.  Any other ideas, guys?

I shot this in .jpg format only.  So Is there some other technique I can use?

Photo Critique / This Is Not A Request For A Critique, But....
« on: January 08, 2013, 16:16 »
Hi All :D

This is not a request for a critique, but I do need some help understanding how to fix a pesky problem with fringe.

Take a look at this photo. It's too bad Flickr will not allow you to download the full resolution because it is easier to see the problem.  However, I have also attached 2 thumbnails of the issue, which might be of help.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/92003931@N02/8361591455/#sizes/k/in/photostream/

Anyway... when I am looking at this photo at its full resolution (not stupid flickrs), I am see purple fringing in the pine trees to the left and also fringing in the broad leafed tree that is off to the right.

Usually fringe can easily be removed by making selections and desaturating the offending color... or by creating a layer and using the gaussian blur tool... but neither technique seems to work too well, when there's a deep blue sky and the fringe is almost the same color as the sky.

Also trying to select foliage on a fir tree or a regular tree is a royal pain in the butt... so is there some other easier technique one can use??

And is there some way to avoid this problem in the future?

I'd be most appreciative for any answers you may have.

Thanks,

New Sites - General / Does Anyone Work With Image Gate?
« on: December 18, 2012, 17:41 »
Hi All,

Does anyone work with Image Gate?  I'm just wondering because I am a bit frustrated with them.

Their java uploader triples the size of the files... a 5 mb file turns into a 15 mb file and so uploading gets slowed significantly.  If I am submitting 5 files it takes like 30-45 minutes rather than 10 minutes.

Anyway... I have started sending files to them by FTP but Image Gate doesn't want to import them over if I am sending in only 5 or 10 files at a time-- which is typically how I like to work.

I have explained to the owner several times that there's a problem with the java uploader, but I don't think they understand English too well.

Does anyone else find them difficult to work with??

Without seeing the area where she was photographing when she was killed, then it's hard to pass judgment.  I have seen some train tracks where there are blind curves... areas covered by thick vegetation in which the train seems to practically appear out of nowhere.

At any rate, whether photographing trains or highway traffic... one has to always exercise a high degree of caution.  Highways are especially dangerous, just because you get a lot of idiot drivers who rubber neck at what you're are doing.... and where ever their head swivels, their car seems to go in that direction too, lol.

General Stock Discussion / Re: FTP question
« on: December 12, 2012, 16:55 »
Hi Guys,

Thanks for the advice on File Zilla... I started using it here several days ago and it seems to work well.  Still trying to figure out how to limit the upload speed, because oftentimes, I upload to two sites at the same time, so I don't want it hogging all the bandwidth.

You can throttle the speed but the setting doesn't seem to stick when you close out File Zilla and open it back up.  Hopefully the developer will fix that it an upcoming release.  But for a free program though, I can't complain too much .

General Stock Discussion / Re: Editorial Stock Question
« on: December 10, 2012, 15:37 »
Hey guys,

Well, I am beginning to think that every agency has different definitions/interpretations of what is editorial stock.

It appears that some stock agencies have a narrow interpretation -- where items are accepted as editorial if there is no model or property release.

Others have a wider interpretation of editoral stock.  They will take images without releases, but they will ALSO accept images where there are product logos.

For example, I have some images of vintage cars... some sites will take them and others agencies will not -- rejecting them due to logos.

Thanks for your reply.

I will have to find out what the procedure is.  I know like with Dreamstime, you go into your account and select a tab for editorial and then submit the file.  I don't see that option when I go into Canstock, so I have been putting a notation in the description... which I am hoping the reviewer will see, but it appears that they are not paying any attention to it.

General Stock Discussion / Editorial Stock Question
« on: December 10, 2012, 05:48 »
Hi All,

I got a question about editorial stock.  I typically only submit regular stock where the logos and stuff have been cloned out and I have gotten model and property releases, but what about images where you don't have such releases?

For example, I have some shots of a street scene that I submitted to Canstock as Editorial stock but they were rejected for logos, not for the people that were in them in which I didn't have a model release.

I was under the assumption that logos were acceptable if the stock is considered editorial, so what am I doing wrong here, or does Canstock not take editorial images?

General Stock Discussion / Re: FTP question

Hi steheap,

I downloaded Filezilla... after playing around with it, it looks like it will do everything I want including batch/queue stuff too.

I know I have heard Filezilla used many times on this list but just wanted to see if there were other ones out there that were better.

General Stock Discussion / FTP question
« on: December 08, 2012, 13:07 »
Hi Guys,

I have a question. I've been sending files by FTP to stock agencies using Internet Explorer for several years without problems.

However I am now working with a new agency where they want stuff sent by "sFTP" (I am assuming this means "secure" FTP??) via port 21.

Given the fact that this is out of the realm of Internet Explorer's capabilities, what's a good FREE and easy to use FTP client for Windows 7?

Also, do any of the freebies have batch ability where you can upload to one agency and then when finished, the FTP program will start uploading to the next agency and the next agency after that?

Any assistance or advice you have on this would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

New Sites - General / Clip Dealer Question

Hi All,

Does anyone upload to Clip Dealer?  If so, how long does it take for the photos to show up in your account so you can edit them?  Today, I decided to try out the site and I FTPed 5 photos but I am still not seeing them in my acount.

Gimmestock.com / What's Up With Gimmestock?
« on: November 19, 2012, 10:25 »
Hey All,

Has anyone heard what is going on with Gimmestock?  I visited their website in mid October and it looked like they hadn't renewed their domain name as a "Go Daddy" page popped up.

Well according to whois.net... it looks like the domain name got renewed... and I was able to see the site again... but lately when I visit the site, all I am seeing is a blank page.

Anyone happen to have an email address for gimmestock?

Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi CD,

Had stuff sitting in in the review queue as of Saturday (April 21) which had been there for a couple of weeks... but looked in there today and they've been added to my portfolio.

Did your stuff get reviewed today?

Well if it's any solace... it took me a year before I saw any sales there.... and my portfolio is small @ around 700 photos.

Hang in there!  :)

Yaymicro / Review time slowdown at Yay?

Hi Everyone  ;D

Has anyone else noticed a review time slowdown at Yay?  I am just wondering if it has something to do with all the upgrades they are doing to their site.

I submitted a total of 10 files to them on March 29 and they are still awaiting approval.

BTW... they changed their image requirements.  Images now have to be a minimum of 6 MP.
