Newbie Discussion / Re: Fringe Question
« on: March 29, 2012, 17:06 »
Hi Guys,

Thanks for the answers.  Gosh darn it.... I was hoping it wasn't something I would have to mess around with fixing.  I have Paint Shop Pro X4.  I adjusted the blue channel to correct for just that range of really dark royal blue that was under the tree branches and was able to get rid of most of it without affecting the blue of the sky.

BTW...I understand that Adobe Lightroom has some sort of adjustment that allows you to bring various colors into alignment with each other... is that the same thing as what you mentioned in Adobe Photoshop?

Newbie Discussion / Fringe Question
« on: March 28, 2012, 20:39 »
Hi All,

I am editing a batch of photos I took while on vacation this past year.  Anyway... I know what fringing is for the most part, but what about situations where you have deep blue sky... and even a deeper dark blue on the undersides of tree branches?

Would you consider that fringing or not?

Yaymicro / Re: Anyone experiencing this on Yay?

Not same problem as yours, but might be related. Loaded 23 images through web interface with confirmation that they where loaded . They never arrived in the "Describe" section. Had to upload though FTP.  ???

When was this CD?  Today or Yesterday?  I uploaded files this past Sunday (March 11) and didn't have any issue.

Hi David,

I emailed the Yay (I used the address for contributors) and I am hoping to get response.

If I go into my account's sales statistics... it lists my portfolio + the 10 "where are they?" files, that were under review.

So perhaps they've accepted them but haven't indexed them yet, which is why they aren't currently showing up in my portfolio.

They have been rather slow lately.  Last year, I  submitted to them regularly, twice a week for several months and they were very quick... a couple of days to review and index... but now it  takes them a week or longer.

Hi All,

I had 10 files yesterday that were listed as pending (e.g. they needed to reviewed).  This morning however when I logged into my account... they are not listed as rejected but they aren't in my portfolio either. So what happened to my files?

Has anyone else experienced this?

Newbie Discussion / Re: File Format Question
« on: February 29, 2012, 17:38 »
Hi Disorderly,

I don't have CS5... only Paintshop Pro X4... but unfortunately it doesn't give me the option to save a Jpeg2000 with the metadata.  I can save lossy or lossless and determine the level of compression for the lossy... but sadly PSP X4 doesn't provide me with any options for saving the IPTC info for this particular file format.

I saved a file as a JPEG2000 lossless just to see what it would do, but it PSP X4 strips out the IPTC tags and the EXIF info.

Do you (or anyone else)  know of a freebie program that will keep the metadata when converting JPG to JPeg 2000?

Newbie Discussion / File Format Question
« on: February 29, 2012, 14:25 »
Hi Guys,

I got a photo buyer that is wanting photos in Jpeg2000 format and I got some questions about that.

1.  I have all my .jpgs IPTCed.  If I convert over to Jpeg2000 will these IPTC tags get destroyed?

2. If the IPTC tags get destroyed, is there a way to re-encode this information back into the file?  If so, what software do you guys use for that?  I use Irfanview to IPTC jpgs, but is there software out there that can tag Jpeg2000 files?

3.  Considering how .jpg is a lossy format... should one convert from .jpg --> tiff --> jpeg2000?  Or is it OK to convert from .jpg --> jpeg2000?

Any assistance any of you can provide would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Adobe Stock / Fotolia Review Times Question
« on: February 28, 2012, 11:03 »
Hi Everyone  ;D

It's been a very long time since I have submitted anything to Fotolia.  What are their review times usually like?  I'm just wondering as I submitted some stuff to them on 2-26 but they're still listed as pending.

Newbie Discussion / Re: Windows 7/IPTC Question
« on: January 23, 2012, 13:21 »
Hey Guys,

Thanks for your replies. I was just trying to sort some of my photos by titles.  I don't use Windows 7's photo tools for any editing since, as you said bobbigmac, it screws stuff up.

BTW guys, see my other thread on this topic. I posted twice yesterday by accident. The forum for some reason crapped out on me when I posted the first thread.  I just got a blank page after I posted the first thread and wasn't sure it had even posted and didn't see it until after I posted this second thread on the same topic.

I wish this forum had a way to delete one's posts...

Stockastic,

What software are you using to IPTC your photos?  I used Irfanview for IPTCing my photos and I tried duplicating what you did but it doesn't work for me... only the description is showing.

IPTC Title: Sailboat
IPTC Description: A yacht sailing in the Caribbean
IPTC Keywords: sail, sailing, boat, boating, blah, blah, blah.....

Sorting By Title In Windows (on Cricket's computer): A yacht sailing in the Caribbean

I read somewhere that Windows 7 doesn't fully support IPTC.  I wonder if this is the issue:

http://it.knightnet.org.uk/2009/02/windows-7-supports-iptc-in-jpeg-picture-files-not-quite-adobe-xmp-actually.html

Anyway... I went through and tried all the other sorting criteria... nothing seems to work... oh well... I guess I will just have to live with it or use another tagging program in the future... which I am hesitant to do, since my method works well for me.. except in this particular instance.

Newbie Discussion / Windows 7/IPTC Question
« on: January 22, 2012, 12:45 »
Hi Guys,

I have a question that's really stumping me.

I have a bunch of photos where I used Irfanview to IPTC the title, keywords and description.  I would like to sort these photos that are in folders on my hard drive by the IPTC title but when I sort by Windows 7's version of Title... it sorts by the IPTC Description!

I know Windows 7 has a huge list of folder details that you can use to sort the contents of a folder so is there a way to sort by a photos IPTC title or not?

BTW... when I upload these files to various microstock sites, they seem to recognize the IPTC titles so I am not sure why Windows 7 cannot.

Newbie Discussion / Question About Windows 7 & Organizing Photos
« on: January 22, 2012, 12:32 »
Hi Guys,

I got a question... I'm hoping it's a simple question, but it certainly has me stumped!  ???

I have photos where I used Irfanview to IPTC all the keywords, titles and descriptions.... but I am running into a problem when it comes sorting these image that are in several folders on my hard drive.

How does one sort photos by the IPTC Title in Windows 7?  If I sort my photos by Window 7's version of "Title", Windows 7 actually displays the IPTC Description which is not what I want.

BTW... when I upload these files to all the various microstock sites I work with, they display the correct title info.... so I am not sure what or if Windows 7 has a folder details category that is the equivalent to the IPTC title.

Can you guys help me out here?

Hey Everyone,

Just checked the Stock Photo Media link again this morning at 11:15 am New York Time (I am in the USA)... and it appears they are back up and running... Yay!!!  ;D

I checked yesterday 12-19 and the day before that -- 12-18 and all I saw was a place holder page that their hosting service put up.

StockPhotoMedia.com / Re: Stockphotomedia closed ?
« on: December 18, 2011, 11:10 »
Hi Perry,

When did you check the site... on the 15th which was the date of your previous post?

If that is the case, I wonder what the heck is going on there, then.  I do hope they are not out of business!

It would be interesting to know, but I wonder how easy it would be to bring a site like that back online?

I used to own a website -- nothing elaborate like a stock site with all its databases, shopping carts and such... but my little site was easy to bring back up or make changes...

I wonder if a stock site is as easy... or if when it loses its domain, it loses all its data (photos) too?  ???

Or is that stored someplace else?  ???

Anyhow... I do hope they are back up and running at some point.

Perry,

You said they were back online... no there is just a place holder page.

Looks like they bit the dust and didn't bother telling anyone.   >:(    I had several sales there... but not enough for a payout.

I think it was in November that they raised their prices due to increasing costs... maybe after raising their price, their sales plummeted or something.  What a shame.  :(

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if there is a free file converter out there that will allow me to convert .jpg to .tif files while leaving in the .exif shooting information. I have tried several free image editors -- Irfanview, Gimp and even Microsoft Paint but they all seem to strip the shooting information out when converting to .tif.

Even the software that came with my Canon camera seems to strip this out.

I really need the shooting information.  Anyone got any ideas??

When I checked the site at 1:15 pm New York Time,  the site is up, but it is very, very slow.

Was going to submit files today, but the website won't display the thumbnails of my unfinished files... page takes a long time to load too.

Or Medium or Small?

Featurepics.com / what???? More Bizarre Activity At Feature Pics
« on: October 06, 2010, 06:53 »
I don't know what is going on over at Featurepics but it sure would be nice if this company would communicate its activities to its members.

This morning I logged into my account and found that some of my files that had been previously accepted are now getting rejected.  Files that were accepted 2 or 3 years ago.  what???

Is Feature Pics doing a re-audit of its files???

If so...that's real nice of them not to communicat it to everyone!!!  >:(  >:(

Featurepics.com / Upload Limits on Feature Pics??
« on: October 05, 2010, 18:49 »
Where does one find upload limits on the Feature Pics Website?

I FTP'ed 10 photos today (Tuesday) and when I went to submit them, the web page indicated that I had already reached my upload limit.

The last time I uploaded and submitted files was on Saturday which means that this should be a new week.

Cutcaster / what's up with Cutcaster???
« on: July 15, 2010, 18:15 »
I send files to Cutcaster that have gotten accepted by other agencies-- agencies that do far more business each day than probably Cutcaster could ever hope for in a year... and yet they get rejected by Cutcaster for "poor lighting" or "over filtered".   ???

Is Cutcaster even worth bothering with or should I just blow them off altogether??

Has anyone had any consistent sales with them??
