Pond5 / Re: What's up with P5
« on: September 26, 2019, 13:58 »
Anyone else noticed a drying up of sales since P5's 20% commission grab? My SS sales are steady, P5 is struggling the past few months. Whatever they're doing with their extra commission, it doesn't seem to be increasing turnover.

Very much so.  Still getting 2-3 image sales a month but the videos have been cut by 2/3.  I would get 5-6 a month now at two if I'm lucky.  But stock in general has tanked this year.  August is the first month in years where I didn't make $2500 (I used to make mid $3k a month on MS). Had roughly $1700 in Aug.  Very, very much drying up sales in MS.

Hey Mantis,
Your numbers are exactly the same as mine.
Coincidence, or are the manipulating us the same as Shutterstock?

Who else sells vertical clips?

General Stock Discussion / Re: keywords in adobe not saved

That's because you tried to add keywords to multiple files at the same time.
The Adobe interface always messes that up.

For god's sake QUIET! or they will all start doing it.

As a full time contributor myself, I do hope agencies don't block us without warning or talking to us first. This kind of "immediate block" has always been the biggest nightmare to any contributor. I do hope agencies will review case by case. For those who are confirmed violators (thief) should be banned immediately, but for case like this one, they should be given a chance to redeem themselves first at least. Just my 2 cent.

Its simple, dont upload many versions of the same file, videos or images, and you have nothing to worry about. If you have a question, ask first.

Two clips is not: 'many versions'.

31
Look around you. We're already earning a lot less from everyone else.
The agencies are all playing their little games to screw us over.
What's worse $2 per clip from Shutterstock or the new Storyblocks?

I think submitting graded and non graded should be ok. It's not spamming in my opinion.

Same here.

They probably ran out of storage space  ;)

Oh I think everyone understands why someone be upset if there was a cap in place... that's not the issue. I think everyone just doesn't understand why so many people think there's a cap in place without any evidence to support the theory. And having similar sales on a monthly basis doesn't really constitute evidence. These caps and whatever other theorys are doing the rounds at the time... they always just feel a little bit like:

"ok, my sales aren't what they used to be and/or aren't what I feel they should be. Who is to blame for this? I have no idea... so I should invent some kind of theory that would explain it, even if there's no evidence to support that theory. Great, now I have something/someone to blame and can sleep better and night."

Shutterstock = No video sales for ten days.
Pond5 = Several video files sold every day.
Adobe = At least one video file sold each day.

After ten days Shutterstock turned my portfolio back on and I now sell several files every day.

To me, that is evidence of a cap.

I have been with Shutterstock for seven years. I have a lot of experience with them and my Shutterstock earnings have passed $220K.

I firmly believe that Shutterstock does manipulate my earnings by turning my port on and off. Either that or at certain times of the month my port is moved to a very low position in the search results.

Everyday I have several video sales on Pond5 and at least one on Adobe. So far this month I have had 3 sales on Shutterstock. Today is the 11th of the month and my port is earning again. I believe my port was off/low search for the first 10 days this month.

It never used to be this way but now they definitely control my earnings. They have decided how much to allow me to earn.

VideoBlocks / Re: another good news from storyblocks?!!
« on: June 04, 2019, 10:02 »

Want to hear from contributors? Here are first-hand testimonials from contributors currently in the program:

It definitely paid back having a little patience while the great guys at Storyblocks developed their new program! We were literally blown away by the sales and the revenues that surpassed even the best months of Videoblocks. And it can only get better. Moreover the support team is always extremely friendly and helpful.

The new Storyblocks Partnership Program is proving to be an exciting new concept in a stock media market that is in sore need of some refreshment. I have seen positive increases in sales and revenue during the early stages of the program that are encouraging to me as a contributor while the increase in content must be equally appreciated by buyers.

Almost immediately I understood the essence of the new program because it opens up the market for new consumers. Everyone decides for himself, I made my choice and am very pleased with it!

Do the contributor quotes seem fake to you?

If you look at American adds for big pharma there is a complete disconnect between audio and visual.
"This product will destroy your liver and possibly kill you." Big smile.

Just take a look at the Adobe 'Recent Top Sellers'. Fake realities and big smiles everywhere.

It's sad but it sells.

Diversity is great but we need more reality. imho

Everyones reality is different. 🙂

Everybody's reality is different but we do not see it reflected in the 'Top Sellers' list.

Those fake realities have become boring, dated, and have no consideration for the social well-being of others (hence the lack of diversity). . . . jeez, even all the lighting is the same.

I'm talking about fake reality and lack of emotional diversity. How many people turn up at their doctors in extreme body pain looking perfectly healthy with a big smile on their face?

44
But if they want this unrealistic stuff - they can hire, pay and get it. Instead of shaming people who don't want to invest their resources into some staged "realities" someone wants to believe in.

It is not just 'diversity' that is a staged reality someone wants to believe in. What about all the smiley happy people?

thought I'd just post some thoughts here...

if footage was "truly" exclusive and desirable, and pond5 reached out to outlets that desired this truly exclusive footage - i.e., what the authors submitted was very difficult to obtain else where and news footage firms wanted, say:
-

Your thoughts?

I look at it as an opportunity for us to take control of the industry. A lot of the Best content producers are putting their efforts into Pond5x, guys like Via Films. I'm doing the same with some of my higher end stuff and will see how it goes. If all of the best content is exclusive then it will drive sales, just dont use garbage footage for P5x.

Just how are you "taking control of the industry"?

"If all of the best content is exclusive then it will drive sales" - but all the best content is not exclusive.

It's up to you as a producer to if you actually care about the industry to not enable the race to the bottom type players. Since you dont produce quality content then maybe exclusive isnt for you

"Since you dont produce quality content" . . . are you bad at English or just trying to be nasty?

46
Not a sham....but not explained very well either. By having "exclusive" clips Pond5 is able to distribute them to partner agencies while controlling the prices. Based on what P5 told us, they have contracts with partner agencies where the partner will have to sell at/around the price YOU set for your exclusive clips on Pond5.

"Based on what P5 told us"
That is a lie.

47
Prediction:
A year from now Pond5 exclusivity will be 50% royalty.

General Stock Discussion / Re: December Earnings
« on: May 13, 2019, 11:54 »

Lets hope that 2019 is the year that pulls us out of this - although I can't think of what would cause that to happen, unfortunately.

Steve

The answer is in the question "I", yes you.  Follow the money, Premium and Exclusive content is where it is at, just hope it is not too late for the penny to drop, or are you waiting for your earnings to drop substantially before you jump.  It's time to stop selling good quality content cheap.

Happy New Year :)

You should tell that to the agencies!

I received this today:

""My name is Ann,
I am Content Curator at Depositphotos.
Our team is glad to represent your portfolio on our website.
I have noticed that you had not uploaded your entire collection of images our platform. There are more than  1 000 great images on other stocks that, unfortunately, are not uploaded on DP platform. I think those works would be in demand among our clients.
So to encourage you I suggest you take the advantages of our service for free:
mass uploading via personal high-speed ftp;
help with attribution;
promotion of your portfolio.
Eagerly waiting to receive your response and wishing you a wonderful day!"

My answer:
"Dear Ann,
"I find your email a little inappropriate
For years I have always uploaded the same images on all the sites.
The only reason why more than 1000 images that you can see on the other sites are not on Deposiphotos is because Depositphotos has (had) rejected all of them.
So, not my choice or my fault, but the Depositphotos one.
Now, frankly, I have no time to see what is on Depositphotos and what it is not.
You had to think better before to reject some of my images that are best sellers on other sites

Kind regards"

Negotiate!
You should ask for an additional 10% royalty.
