General Photography Discussion / Paul Hardy interview
« on: June 17, 2021, 18:24 »
Interview with the guy who was shooting for 25 years. The story about 'good old days' told in a calm and thoughtful way. It is hard not to agree with the assessment of where the industry is at at the moment.

Thanks for sharing and kudos to Adam for laying it out in simple terms.

I don't think buying your own images through click farms would make any sense financially, especially considering the subs image prices.
I think it is views that take precedence in a lot of cases, not sales.

Here is the example - I have uploaded the image 3 months ago. I had 2 sales only - 10 cents each, but the image is located in the first place in the first row. So it cannot be sales that influence the position in this case. The search was performed without being logged in to my contributor account, so it is the way clients see it.
'Teotihuacan' is not a hugely competitive keyword, but still a popular tourist destination in Mexico.

Back to the original point. If views take precedence then it is much easier to write the script to dupe the system than to deal with a complicated procedure of producing fake sales.

Happy to share with you an interview with Seattle-based, Mat Hayward, Adobe Stock Artist Evangelist, where he discusses his background, what's happening with Adobe Stock, and offers valuable tips on how to make money in this industry! He touches on the subject of the newly introduced Adobe Pro Edition plan as well.

My question to you and anyone on this thread is this...Did you do anything different this past year to keep up with the evolving trends and to maintain a relevant portfolio?

Hi Mat,

I haven't done anything differently but still uploading quite actively. I deal exclusively with travel photography and don't complain about Adobe performance. Being able to maintain pre-covid levels on Adobe is impressive these days.
This brings me to a follow-up question.
What in general can be done differently in travel photography niche that can make it more relevant to today's demand and trends?
(besides doing covid-related travel images).
Here is my port for reference https://tinyurl.com/3krwjk62

General Stock Discussion / Google trends
« on: January 06, 2021, 16:37 »
Hi, I wonder if anyone uses Google Trends to fine-tune their concepts and create new ones for images.
https://www.stockstudio.io/post/covid-related-stock-opportunities-in-2021-using-google-trends-analytics-part-i

It seems a bit time-consuming, but if somebody intergrated this in their workflow it would be nice to hear the feedback.

Cheers.

33
Havy you guys tried using google trends as analitical tool about stock that might sell?

Adobe Stock / Re: Adobe Stock release UI improvement
« on: July 30, 2020, 16:06 »
I second this. Creating something similar to Alamy where you can click on the keyword to mark it as the most important one would be really great.

Disabled my port on Shutterstock.

13.975 images
140 videos.

Stopped uploading since June 1st.

Sorry about that. I did a quick and dirty edit to make the text a much darker color, but I'll take a look at fixing that for the CSS when I get a few minutes to figure out what I did when I set that site up. Can't remember how anything was organized!

You don't need to fiddle with CSS usually to achieve this, those settings should be available in your WordPress theme options.
I create websites on a daily basis, so if you need a bit of help, PM me.
Cheers!

I wrote a blog post about this royalty cut so there is a collection of thoughts all together - things get very spread apart in long topics like this.

https://www.digitalbristles.com/shutterstock-bombshell-royalty-cut-june-1st/

The only thing left to decide is what time on Sunday to turn off my portfolio on Shutterstock :(

Your blog is great but the font is so bleak that readability is very bad. I personally couldn't read till the end for this reason, its just hard to read.

Should people come here trolling for customers,

Same here, read the link. https://www.backyardsilver.com/2020/01/blog-will-continue-as-before/

This is the reason I quit most of the forums that discuss microstock issues - microstockers (in a lot of cases) is an emotional nasty bunch of people who are looking to jump on one another and eat each other alive without even trying to employ an iota of rational thinking.

39
Before getting pissed off you should read a bit more I think.

VPN probably won't work because he still has to give paypal or bank account which are both revealing country where owner is from. But maybe is worth to try.

You are right, I misread the initial post.

It is feaking cruel to punish regular citizens for whatever their government is doing. It is absolutely inhumane.

Why not to use VPN that gives you an IP from another country and access it?

He wants to drive traffic to his youtube channel to make money

Hey, don't be bitter and pity, check the facts first, it helps.
The blog doesn't contain any link to the youtube channel, moreover, there are no ads there coming from Google Ads or any other online ad provider. The blog is not monetized at all, regardless of how much traffic comes there.

Canva / Re: Canva - did I miss something?
« on: June 10, 2019, 09:30 »
For me, CM was a low-earner - 20-50$ a month. The beer fund as I call it. But the last three months it actually stopped selling at all. 0$.

Even lowly RF123 and DT bring more money, something definitely happened to Creative Market.

Creative market is the next in line.

Our mission of empowering creators with amazing free content ties perfectly with Canvas mission of empowering the world to design.

They don't even sugarcoat it - they flat out say 'we like taking stuff for free and making money out if it'.

General - Stock Video / 4K vs HD
« on: May 07, 2019, 17:05 »
Hi, ladies and gents. Pretty much everybody says that 4K is the way to go, and it's kinda hard to argue this point. Yet pretty much every contributor I know would say that HD videos absolutely outsell their 4k videos. I wonder how's it going with you guys?

Elijah.

48
I love my iphone. It has excellent stabilization and I have uploaded a lot of iphone clips.

Thank you. Would you be able to provide links to your videos shut on your cellphone?

a. You can shoot images in RAW, and the quality can be comparable to lower end cameras in bright light.

b. Get a low end 4k Panasonic and the image quality will be much better.

a. Yes, and they can be successfully sold. This is the reason why I'm trying to make a point that my criteria at this point is 'sellability on stocks", not the high-end camera comparison.

b. Respectfully disagree. Panny LUMIX G7 has a quite unacceptable image production, in spite of decent entry-level video capabilities.

Thanks for taking time and replying, much appreciated!

Sensor the size of a grain of rice, lens the size of a thumbtack, made of plastic? Neither is my vote too.

... yet those little things can produce photos that can successfully be sold on stock sited. Why not to assume that the video can be decent too?
