iStockPhoto.com / IStock Getty password security issue
« on: July 12, 2015, 23:45 »
Apparently,  according posts on iStock forum  our passwords are stored as clear text. It results in massive security breach. In addition,  they sending these passwords in email. One more time iStock shows how unprofessional they are. Related topic:

iStockPhoto.com / Istock/Getty communication on Adobe Stock
« on: June 25, 2015, 20:36 »
How they can dare write something like this when they paying even less.
Shame on you iStock/Getty.
original communication quote:

"A Few Thoughts on the Launch of
Adobe Stock

Following the launch of Adobe Stock, we felt it was a good time to reach out and communicate to you our exclusive artists with some thoughts on what this means for Getty Images, iStock by Getty Images, and our valued relationship with you.

We start with the point that competition is not necessarily a bad thing.  Competition can drive us forward in better serving current and potential customers.  It can also help grow our customer base as new marketing builds awareness of the need for and availability of licensed content.  The negatives of competition come when you do not have a clearly differentiated product.

Thanks to your content and ongoing submissions, we enjoy and will continue to enjoy a clear point of differentiation superior content.  This is the very core of our customers needs.  Without great content, customers cannot produce great projects.  iStock by Getty Images is the only service in the value space that provides a meaningfully different and superior content offering.  Adobe Stock is the same content offered historically via Fotolia and many other providers.  Adding a statement that it is curated by Adobe, does not make it true.

We also enjoy the full reach and assets of Getty Images.  Only Getty Images offers a comprehensive offering to service all customers, across all projects, in all geographies €“ creative and editorial, new and archival, global and local, premium and value.  Only Getty Images has a 700-person dedicated sales force that are experts in content licensing.  Only Getty Images has 20 years of building strong customer relationships.

Moving beyond what we believe Adobe€™s entry means to Getty Images and iStock by Getty Images, we wanted to share some thoughts on broader implications for photographers as a whole.

With the launch of Adobe Stock, it is clear that Adobe believes all imagery is worth a maximum of $10.  We simply do not agree with this view.  Commercial and photographic experience and investments in pre and post-production do matter to quality and are only commercially viable through higher price points and, ultimately, returns to the photographers.  This is a core reason why Getty Images contributors can sell across our offerings versus a one-size fits all, every image is a commodity approach.

The launch of Adobe Stock also under-scores Adobe'€™s true focus.  Adobe is under-pricing the work of photographers to increase the overall attractiveness of Creative Cloud.  In fact, Creative Cloud customers receive an additional 40 percent discount with this discount subsidized by photographers via lowered royalties.

We struggle to understand how Adobe Stock helps to sustainably support the creation of imagery and photographers, many of which are paying Creative Cloud customers.  Instead, in current form, we only see how Adobe Stock helps support Adobe€™s broader software ambitions at the expense of the creation of imagery and photographers.

Getty Images remains focused on licensing content with an emphasis on superior material.  We will continue to price this superior content to an appropriate premium and provide a higher royalty.  We thank you for your contributions and loyalty.  We are more committed than ever to maintain your loyalty and will intensify our efforts to compete on the basis of quality and a comprehensive offering.  In the coming months, you will see marketing, site merchandising, partnerships and other improvements that only reinforce this strategy and our intensity.

Thank you for being our partners.

General Stock Discussion / Re: model might try to sue me
« on: December 10, 2014, 09:29 »
The cases like this are the reason why I almost stopped uploading images with people, especially glamour and with children, to microstock. I think that with a very large diffusion and all kind of customers, often with very low budget, the risk that images are used in a way that my model, who trusted me, will not like is too big. I don't think that in RM the risk is the same. Companies who spent hundreds on one image are usually more serious.
Loose a friend or being sued for for 0.28-0.38 is not worth for me.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Retroactive raise in Royalty?
« on: October 16, 2014, 02:08 »
Same problem as Jo Ann Snover for me, I have deactivated all my files since march 2014 and I have 3 sales (from deactivated files of course) each for 0.35$...
Unfortunately "deactivating" is not working correctly. Numerous files are not removed after being deactivated, from partner sites like Thinkstock or Fotomore. The problem is very serious and old. Nothing has been done.
You have to contact CR and they remove "manually files. But sometimes files can "reborn" later.

Adobe Stock / Re: Guess I'll reupload to Fotolia
« on: October 11, 2014, 22:51 »
Well, all negativity and bias aside, I'd like to know some hard facts:

1) Does DPC butcher sales on other sites?
2) Is DPC garnering enough sales to make it worthwile?
3) Will DPC actually destroy the market as we know it with a race to the bottom?

I'm not opted in, but as for question 1: I'm not seeing any decline in sales on other sites since the existence of DPC, and even if there would be a decline, it's hard to tell if it's because of
DPC.
Therefore, I think the answer to question 3 is 'no'.

That leaves question 2 unanswered. Perhaps opted-in contributors could shine some light on this?

All I can tell you is my earnings on FT went back up after I opted back in to DPC. My earnings on other sites weren't affected. Being on DPC is a net positive for me.
Probably because many contributors, me included, refuse this deal. If everybody follow your example and opt-in your earnings risk to take a hit.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: quit exclusivity?
« on: September 20, 2014, 08:43 »
@ Leaf - it is not very cool that we can see alt name (post author) of people who want to stay anonymous on the main page.

@ Moniet
After seeing your portfolio I would say after 3-6 months you can earn 1000$. My assumption is that you keep your port at IS and upload in small batch to SS, Dreamstime, Pond5 and Alamy (sites I am contributor).

Dead in China as well.

iStockPhoto.com / Fotomore & Thinkstock hosted in China?
« on: July 10, 2014, 23:16 »
Yesterday I discovered many corrupted file at Thinkstock. I knew the problem with Fotomore but not at Thinkstock.
Strange think few randomly compared files between both sites had exactly the same corrupted "look". Are they using same servers for both?

Thank you all for info.
Jo Ann, congratulation, you have very nice and instructive website.

It is almost 7 years I am a part microstock world. In the beginning I was enthusiastic but with years it changed.
Today my relation with sites is closer to hate than love. The problem is that with time I forgot why I don't like agencies... Sometimes when I discuss with people and want to be very factual I lack of arguments.
For example I deleted my portfolio from Fotolia and I think it was related to the event when Bobby Deal was banned. What it was?
The only date I remember is September 2010 and iStock beginning of the end.
Is there any place where we can find this kind information? Different events related to sock agencies?
Thanks
BTW, In the title I put "negative" events as I don't think there were positives ones...

Strange, I randomly chose few images from different portfolios I could download them all by clicking on "download raw". All is free here?

Stocksy / Re: YES! I got accepted to Stocksy...
« on: June 23, 2014, 18:51 »
It was the same with me! :D I opened Supply Agreement and the first sentence is: "We love your photos and we want to license them for you." My first thought was "They accepted me!!!" But then I came to realize that I just sent my application so it isn't possible. Now I'm waiting for their response. Kathi, did you experienced something similar? :-)
They love our photos without seeing them?
Extremely disappointing.
I thought that Stocksy was different from others stock agencies, managed by honest people. In reality they can be liars just like their competitors are.

Off Topic / Re: Why are we losing so many members?
« on: June 12, 2014, 19:41 »
who would want to communicate here?
...
sad to say it, but i hardly believe any major market player is interested in communication here now. what's the point to speak with people who do not even care about TRYING to understand what they are reading.
This forum is not perfect.
But until now it is the only place I know that a reliable information could be found. And relatively objective view of what happens in microstock could be generated based on discussions here.
Many "major market players", including agencies, are regularly taking a look to our discussions here.
I bet that same agencies have their "agents" here with missions to "sabotage" this place.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: IS moving content to Site in China
« on: June 06, 2014, 18:21 »
Uh, isn't the internet worldwide?  If China wanted iStock content they can already get it.
False, iStock is not accessible from China. You cannot connect to the site unless you use VPN.
Others sites, like SS are accessible without problem.
Chinese are smart, like me they think the big iStock's crap should be avoided;-)

Seriously, I think you shouldn't be excited with this deal. The commission will be ridiculous after Fotomore and Getty cut, sales low. In addition your images will be available for free or sold on pirate DVD in the street.
Chinese don't understand our 'problem' with copyright.

Common' DT, be serious.

iStockPhoto.com / Istocklypse 2014 RIP
« on: May 27, 2014, 06:48 »
It is incredible how the enthusiasm is gone in IS forums.
The last istocklypse in Hong Kong ended 3 weeks ago. There are only 2 post comments related to this event in IS forum. Compared to previous years it is a very pitiful score...

iStockPhoto.com / Balance changed (down)
« on: March 11, 2014, 04:57 »
I am not 100% sure but I have impression that my balance diminished this night and the difference is equal to the recoupment amount (1/6).
Strange thing, someone at IS forum stared a new topic about the same issue but it has disappeared.
Am I crazy?

118
I'm curious, has anyone here thought of filing a Better Business Bureau complaint against iStock? They have an A+ rating somehow, which means they've settled all of their complaints in a way that was satisfactory to the customer. My guess is, whoever files a complaint online would get to keep their "overpayment" money simply because it won't be worth it to them to tarnish their BBB status.
But we're not 'customers', we're suppliers.
What is on BBB page:
BBB's goal is to successfully resolve complaints involving buyers and sellers in a fair and timely fashion. This includes complaints involving consumer-to-business and business-to-business transactions that involve the advertisement and/or sale of a product or service. Information concerning the nature and resolution of complaints filed with BBB is used in developing BBB Reliability Reports on companies.
I think we can consider to contact them. Personally I will wait 10-15 days and if I don't get a response to my ticket I'll contact BBB.
Imagine if 10% of 9k of concerned contributors contact them. Even if they cannot accept our complainants it will be a huge mess.

119
Seems like $50 was a typo...now it is under $10 they won't recoup
Typo... it is well known that on Canadian keyboards '1' and '5' are very close.

I will open tickets every weekend until I get an explanation. Their numbers couldn't not be right. According their calculations in Sept and Oct I earned 60% less then usual.
I don't trust them.

Sean,
Could you please prepare Greasemonkey scripts which:
- remove Captcha
- put date and city automatically in caption for editorial files
Thank you

In my eyes your integrity is still immaculate.

Good luck.

@ Ron, pls don't compare Sean with  "iStock's professionals", it is insulting ;)

Dreamstime.com / Re: 6.93$ for HD Footage what a shame
« on: December 29, 2013, 06:22 »
I dont believe it when I saw this today. Only 6.93$ for HD video?!? Seams I will remove my video port from there.  >:(
I don't believe you don't believe.
There were long topics here and at DT about, this low commission is not surprising. Many people, included me, decided not to participate . You have chosen the opposite option and now taking about a shame.

123
I think this is normal. iStock IT 'warlocks' finally found the way how to increase site's speed: display blank page.

124
Sure, it's better then nothing.
But I still remember the grandfathering promise from 2010. They convinced me to became exclusive and few month later my promised 'canister' became another color icon without any value.
I don't trust them.

125
I have never been a big fan of Yuri's photographic work (visible on stock sites). He produces rather boring, not original work because this is what apparently buyers want.  But I thought he was able to do much better, for his pleasure. In this video I saw a fortunate amateur who discovered panning and possibility of changing lens at dsrl camera.
I think the title: "Photographer who travel with 24000W strobes in the trunk of his Porsche Cayenne" fits better to his profile  ;D
