Unsplash is an image sharing website where photographers share high quality/res work and it is 100% royalty free. It seems, for all intents and purposes, like the 'race to the bottom' that is plaguing the stock photo industry has gotten Zack unhinged. Zack nails it and very briefly mentions iStock:

iStockPhoto.com / Classic View Gone From Portfolio Page
« on: August 06, 2016, 12:45 »
Up until a few days ago, I was still able to pull up the classic view on my portfolio page to at least see how many subs downloads my images had. That now seems to be gone too.

iStockPhoto.com / This file is publishing
« on: May 27, 2016, 01:31 »
I have files that passed inspection close to a week ago already but are still showing as "This file is publishing" in My Uploads. So the files are approved but are not live in my portfolio or available for sale online yet.

I often used to see the "This file is publishing" notice for a few hours after a file was approved, but then it would clear itself. Now it seems to stay like this for days.

Has anyone else experienced this problem of "This file is publishing" not eventually moving the files into being available for sale after a short period of time and/or is iStock aware of the problem?

iStockPhoto.com / Dead & Burried
« on: May 27, 2015, 23:51 »
In the last 14 days or so I put up almost 200 new files. Not even one single view has been recorded on any of them at all. I guess the new new just keeps getting newer.

iStockPhoto.com / iStock | 15 Year Anniversary

Its hard to believe that 15 years ago, a small team with an idea about changing the world of royalty-free imagery, would evolve into what we know as iStock by Getty Images today.
This April marks a significant milestone in iStocks history, a history that has been largely based on an insatiable love of imagery, an appetite for disruption, and an irreverent affinity for change.

Even with our long history of evolution, the past year has brought more change to iStock than the previous decade and a half combined. Over the past 12 months, we have we have completely repictured the business, updating and simplifying the search and purchase process, removing barriers at every step.

The biggest change is our launch of a full subscription product. This has significantly shifted the business economics, but has also given iStock access to a new customer base that was simply unaccessible before with our singular credit model. Make no mistake, this shift in our core business has not been without challenges, but it is vital to the long-term growth of the business and will pay dividends in the future. High volume customers who have long wanted access to our premium quality, exclusive content, but have been limited by our credit model, are now free to leverage our content for their creative projects.

On the topic of content In an industry where our competitors continue to push quantity over quality, one fundamental ideology that has not and will not change, is iStocks a philosophy of Exclusive Artists providing premium content that you cant get from anyone else. We are proud to represent your content, and defy the race-to-the-bottom trend in pricing by rewarding talent, investing in our artists and paying higher rates for our Signature tier product. We continue to share the passion and creativity each that each and every exclusive artist puts into their work. It is these shared ideologies that separates us from the competitors, and has made iStock by Getty Images the leader in the market.

As one of the original founders of iStock, I have enjoyed many exciting experiences and challenges in the past 15 years, yet I have never been more excited for the future of the business.

From myself and the entire iStock and Getty Images team we thank you for 15 amazing years, and look forward to the next 15 as we work together to maintain our position as the leaders in the industry.

I invite you to watch this short business update video from Derek Snyder, Sr. Director of Product and E-Commerce for iStock by Getty Images, as he details the strategies and impacts of the RePicture project, and frames the business for the years to come.

Sincerely,
Brad Ralph
Senior Director, Content Development / Co-Founder iStockphoto

PS. If you are having problems viewing the video please ensure you've recieved your log in credientials for the Getty Contributor Portal. If you haven't recieved your credientals please send a quick email to the Content Manager.

What a bunch of bullocks Brad. Another unknown name pops out of the woodwork with the usual Woo-Yay rubbish. Who was it last time that sent one of these emails? I can hardly keep track of the list of one-hit wonders.

- Now that's a complete oxymoron.

I think I will stop my rant here or this could go on for hours...

The new asset detail pages now contain no descriptions at all. No more ability to link light boxes or anything either to your images. I realize this was coming for a while, but in this case what was the point of that whole recent campaign of trying to get all contributors to go back and write longer descriptions on all their thousands of old files in order to get better Google image search results? A big waste of everyone's time it seems in having everyone do that for nothing? What a big circle wank!

In addition, they are now offering huge closeup images of 1,235 pixels on the longest side. Pretty soon people wanting a small or medium sized download will simply download the closeup images only and for free and then run either Inpaint Pro (https://www.theinpaint.com/), Remove Watermark Pro (http://remove-watermark-pro.en.softonic.com/), or one of the myriad of other programs out there that work in a content-aware way to automatically remove unwanted watermarks from photos.

I'll bet we can expect to see our sales ratchet down another big percentage here very soon.

I am wondering if anyone knows how long it takes before an image is removed from the site when you delete it from your portfolio for the following sites. I vaguely recall DreamsTime had some sort of waiting period, but I don't quite remember and wonder if that is the case with any of the other sites or if removal is immediate or let's say within 24 hours or whenever the data base is updated again on the site:

Shutterstock.com / Login Captcha Redundant
« on: May 19, 2014, 22:37 »
I don't understand why Shutterstock has a login captcha. It seems like a waste of time. Captcha's are usually used for example when signing up as a new user on a web site or posting a comment on a blog to ensure the user is not a bot. But when you have already put in your login details to login to a site that already confirms you are not a bot if you have a username and password already. How could one be a bot if they are a member of a site already? It makes no sense. Shutterstock should remove the captcha from their login dialogue box. No other stock site has this either.

I just tried to login to my iStock account via DeepMeta and I got the following error message in DeepMeta:

Meanwhile, I am able to login to my account via the Firefox browser to my iStock account without any difficulty.

iStockPhoto.com / Confusing Discounted Pricing
« on: September 23, 2013, 01:07 »
I just saw this on the iStock site:

The line through the 4 just makes it still look like a 4 and the line through the 7 makes it look like a confirmed 7. They should have uses "X" instead to avoid any confusion.

I'm trying to get an idea if it was a big month for charge backs for many other people too on iStock of if I just had a run of misfortune.

iStockPhoto.com / Charge Backs
« on: January 12, 2012, 00:56 »
I am just curious if anyone else has had a recent number of charge backs in the last week or two or if there is another thread somewhere talking about an above average amount of recent charge backs that people have had as of late?

I do get the occasional charge back on a purchase refund every now and again, but over the last week I have gotten close to 10. Also, refunds and charge backs typically occur either the same day, or within a couple of days of the purchase of an image from what I have seen in the past, but all of these recent charge backs are dating back at least a month or more on the date of purchase. So all of these charge backs are from sales made last year and some were made as far back as 3-4 months ago even.

Is that common to have charge backs on sales made from such a long time ago occurring months later?

iStockPhoto.com / Editing Online Profile
« on: April 16, 2011, 03:04 »
I am wondering if anyone knows if all the personal info fields in a member's personal profile are meant to be editable? For example, at the bottom of the edit profile page it says:

Quote
This is what you want other members to see. You can change any of this at any time.

For one, I noticed once a Business Name is entered that it doesn't seem like it can be edited again after that as the field turns solid gray.

I was about to enter my web site info as well, but I am concerned that if I do that it may not be editable either once I put it in, so I am refraining from doing that for the time being until I know what the actual permissions are.

Apparently, the statement at the bottom of the profile edit page does not seem to be 100% correct.
