any getty owned content in there?

more deals to come is a major concern even when your own files are not included.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Should I drop Exclusive (istock)?
« on: January 10, 2013, 20:35 »
I think it was at the time RC announcement, Fotolia and possibly Dreamstime did cannister matching or other similar promotions. I cant say what is best for you, but I do wonder what some of the other agencies would respond if you contact them and ask.

80
Yep sorry, just made a fool of myself :) it was set by file age LOL. Outer space also looks good now too :) wonder how long its been set to that (I dont search very often)

81
there are plenty were the search falls apart, try outer space or even stethoscope. Been like that a long time.
Stethoscope is also a good one to show the favourite contributors stuff both on istock and thinkstock how many on the first page are from the same person.
Oh, our searches must be totally different for best match stethoscope. My stethoscope best match search shows images from a lot of different people.
There must be a big geographical difference in what people looking for 'stethoscope' want. Allegedly.  ::) :o

interesting. I get a stethoscope on a cardiogram then 4 images of nurse by sturti (no stethoscope), then 5 by sturti of the same nurse with a stethoscope around her neck. An isolated stethoscope then rest of page is doctors and nurses, most with stethoscopes.

sturti has 19 images of the same nurse on the first page and looking closer today, she is asian, and I'm currently in penang :)

changing to stethoscope on white or stethoscope isolated on white gets me 50 people shots :)

Stethoscope is also a good one to show the favourite contributors stuff both on istock and thinkstock how many on the first page are from the same person. Similarly for space nebula two people make up most the last dozen or so images on page 44 (with mostly red and blue flames images!)
I looked for some of my farm images on thinkstock my 6 photos were all within the last twelve images on the last page.

I feel for those whose images have been used (esp 2.6 million downloads), Personally I would be deleting the images off istock to force them to stop. What gets me is a few weeks ago we had "We've been thinking for some time that we need to make changes to how we communicate to the contributor community at iStock." then there is the lawyer who comes along and says we're right, you're wrong, suck it up. Wonder what next months istock drama will be....

As far as I get it there is no way out to ever delete the image from MS - at least they tell us so. There are also pictures on this page of people who cancelled exclusivity some time ago. This is totally insane. They simply don't own the CR, they can't give away these sorts of "Rights".

non exclusive images can be included in promotional use, just looks like istock chose not to use them, so they probably dont have to remove for non-exclusivity. I cant see how they can keep them there if the contributor deletes the file though. (but then there is thread about deleted accounts on thinkstock)

Terrifying!  the least. OTOH, with all this cr#p,  we should all be earning an absoloute fortune. So where is all the dosh going?

yep, I wonder that too a lot of dead sites out there?
One I find baffling is that I saw all my images on masterfile (via crestock) the other day.
I always though masterfile was a pretty major player, but there is barely any sales on crestock and I think my highest sales there are about $3-$4 ($50 on masterfile and I get 30%), going to watch it as it seems that they never sell on masterfile?

General Stock Discussion / Re: Dusting Off Some Old Accounts
« on: January 08, 2013, 02:02 »
Canstock would be a definite for me, fluctuate a bit but usually 5-10% of my monthly take.
I suspect Veer favour new images (but havent looked into it a lot) my sales have halved last 6 months they also have weekly upload limit. Dune / Envato can be alright too (especially at first with new image bump).
Not sure where you are, but if you are not in the US 3dstudio want an itin? number.
Panther income dropped after they brought in the new upload system and added millions of images :(
personally I wont use  pixmac due to past history.

really depends on how much you make overall, most of them are in the 1-2% of total earnings category, is an extra 1-2% of your earnings worth the work involved?

I have dual widescreen monitors and a Wacom Intuous tablet. The draw on the screen devices are nice for a sketchpad, but I wouldn't consider them for more than that. There's not enough screen real estate. If and when they make them that would be the size of my old drafting table so I can sit at an angled desktop and draw I'll reconsider.

Regarding the OP, I would strongly suggest that you get into the habit of using the pen for everything - not just for drawing. It helps with the adjustment process (not to mention being so much easier on the arms). Once you break through that period of adjustment you'll wonder how you could have used a mouse for anything like drawing or masking :)

need to get a nice 24" cintiq ;)

Am I understanding correctly?  Are you guys saying that pizza workers make $18.23/hour in Denmark and $17/hour in Australia??

Here they make minimum wage, which is $7.25/hour.  Something is wrong with the US if we are paying this much behind the rest of the developed world.

Maybe I misunderstood?

Minium adult wage in Australia is AUD$15.96 per hour
There are lower wages for juniors which are the majority of workers in Pizza shop chains and Mcdonalds etc.

Under 16 years of age  $5.87
At 16 years of age   $7.55
At 17 years of age   $9.22
At 18 years of age   $10.90
At 19 years of age   $13.17
At 20 years of age   $15.59.

Doesn't taken an einstein to work out why mcdonalds employees as many juniors as they can.

Taxes are higher in Australia although if your earn less than $18200 no income tax.

my local pizza place employs only 18+ and they are employed as casuals so no holidays etc but get 20% extra on top of minimum wage. But as you say McDonalds likes their juniors and as well as high taxes, Australia isnt a tipping culture so you dont earn any tips, but everyone has medical etc. Like leaf says, just hourly rates alone aren't a good indicator.

General Stock Discussion / Re: To Quit or Not to Quit
« on: January 04, 2013, 05:41 »
hit the wall after about 3 years (I think it would be quicker now), then 2 years trying to work out how to get past it, overall I spent 5 years of feeling I should get organised and more focused for stock and was determined to take the next step 12 months ago. Then I decided that I really just couldn't be bothered anymore and have pretty much taken a year off and got involved in other stuff, photography became playtime again (without thinking would this make good stock).
Last couple of weeks started to get motivated again and will start doing stock again.

Happy New Year all :D

Recruiting again :)
Looking for people to keyword 400+ images per week.

realise there would be a fair bit of difference between images and keyworders but on average with your system, how long would keywording 400 images take

fotomoto.com? got some press a year or two ago. Driving me crazy trying to think of what they were called :) when I looked a while back they had just dropped paypal support and where getting complaints as everything was shipped from the US so was expensive for customers from anywhere else. They struck at the time as big vision but no real idea of how to get there :) but it was a while back

93
in australia it is about us$17/hour

I estimate that I have earned well over double that after expenses (over triple before expenses that include holidays, gear I wanted anyway etc). Not too bad when it includes the time I spent that was very horribly inefficient, the 'on the job' training, experimentation etc etc.

Of course it is skewed by off periods such as only putting in about 50 hours for whole of 2012. This year I only earn't 80% of my previous  income (but this has had the effect of increasing the hourly wage for the work I had already done :)).
Unfortunately not many other jobs will continuing paying me 80% of my income when I don't feel like working for a year or more :)

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Is this stupid or what? CV mystery
« on: December 29, 2012, 07:21 »
plenty of times single keyword rejection and no other reason given. Stuff that I then resubmitted and got approved.
I think it depends on the reviewer as some have notified keyword not appropriate, but they removed the keyword and approved the image.

I'm sure this happened to me too. I haven't uploaded in months but a few times early in the year I was rejected on keywords that were in iptc but I know weren't included in deepmeta.

anyone know of anything else apart from sensitive use that gives a $75 commission on SS?

Not complaining one bit but I have what appears to be a sensitive use licence on an illustration of chocolate :D
