I got this email today:

"Due to reasons which are beyond our control, we are sorry to let you know that $0.35 have been removed from your earnings as a result of a refund. File IDs: 1686929 - reason: fraud. Thank you for your patience and understanding."

It's a bit worrying to see images being refunded for fraud. Is credit being given based on fraudulent payment methods?

For such a small amount I am surprised that they have deducted this from my account, perhaps this fraud is widespread and effecting more than just a few people.

Having read this thread I am glad that it is not only me experiencing a sudden decline at IS. This could be the worst month in the last year for me, and in light of their focus on cracking down on inaccurate keywording which is sometimes just plain ridiculous, I really am disappointed in IS.

StockXpert.com / Re: Any Photos.com Sales lately?
« on: October 08, 2008, 13:48 »
same here, no sales after Oct 2 on photos.com or Jupiterimages Unlimited subscription - daily sales on both before that.

Same for me, only StockXpert sales since the 2nd Oct, nothing from affiliates.
However, this may be because this includes the last Fri, Sat and Sun which are notoriously slower days.

Alamy.com / Re: At last my first sale
« on: September 17, 2008, 16:17 »
Just got my first sale at Alamy :-)

I started uploading a few weeks ago with still only a fairly small number of images there. I sold an image for a calendar inside page for up to 50,000 copies. The sale was $400 and after $120 commission and $20 account fee, my payment was $260.

After the demise of the Photoshelter Collection I still have hopes for some consistent sales at Alamy. If you are thinking about sending some images that way, my advice would be to do so :-)

I haven't uploaded any this month but the sales remain strong for me, could end up being another BME. It seems to be a wide selection of images that are selling, no particular pattern. I'm opted into subs at StockXpert and Photos.com but most of my sales are still credits, those $5 credits soon add up :-)

There may be life yet!

After only receiving sub sales for the last month (no credit sales)  I got my first EL there today, but at 30% of $50 I only got $15.

It's enough to keep me uploading for now :-)

Alamy.com / Re: Has anyone tried Alien Skin to upsize?
« on: August 27, 2008, 13:25 »
If you want to re-size for Alamy to meet their submission requirements of pixel dimensions at 48mb and 300dpi use this link for a really easy to use Photoshop tutorial. It takes about 30 seconds for each image.

http://nugar.com/wordpress/2007/12/29/resizing-images-for-alamy-using-photoshop/

This is the method I use to up-size, including cropped images from a Canon 40D. I've uploaded 60 in the last week with no rejections (about 2 days review time at the moment).

StockXpert.com / Re: The "Popularity by Descending" sort
« on: August 22, 2008, 05:49 »
I'm pretty sure I remember Steve mentioning in the StockXpert forum that popularity is influenced by date of upload, downloads and also number of views. Perhaps your older images have been getting new views increasing their popularity?

I had on demand downloads for the first two days it went live and then nothing since, Regular sub sales have been normal, so no impact there for me.

Just got my first OD sale for $2.48 :-)

I have also noticed a recent increase in sales of older images. Most of which were forgotten about, but like an old friend, sometimes nice to see, and sometimes not  ;)

I still get a payout per month, however, I just calculated my acceptance rate has gone from 80%+ down to 40%-, and I am sure my pictures are better than before??

123RF were close behind FT this month. I had a nice $28 EL from 123RF and a $17.50 EL from FT. I like what they are doing at 123RF, they are closing the gap with some of their rivals like FT, I will be putting more effort there now.

It's actually gotten to the point where iStock is accepting what Fotolia rejects.  How ridiculous is that?  It's easier to get images into iStock...now that's bad ;)

I'm finding the same thing. Just got a batch reviewed with 50% rejections, images rejected that are good enough at IS etc. I think it's time for FT and I to take a break, I've only got a small port of 700+, but its going to stay that way until I decide to start uploading again. It wouldn't be so bad if the rejections made sense! Perhaps Attila will be going off on a long over due campaign elsewhere soon. One hopes ;-)

I'm a handful of downloads off my silver badge and will be eligible to upload an additional (wait for it)...a whole 5 extra images per week - Wow!!! I think I will go celebrate with a cup of tea ;-)

As part of my workflow, I make sure my most important keywords are near the front in my IPTC data.  I do this for Fotolia, and it is pretty much automatic these days.  That way I don't have to worry about re-ordering.

This is also what I do. However, it seems ironic that we are tailoring our IPTC data to suit the site that seems to show the lowest respect to the efforts we put in creating our images. I refer to the increase in rejection rates without adequate explanation.

I am really beginning to get fed-up with the site for this reason, however, at least they are still managing to sell images, the ones that made it through before the culling began!  :-\

145
I should mention that my drop in earnings this month is based on a drop in average earnings per sale. Too many small sales in comparison to previous months.

146
About a 30% drop compared to this time last month, so yes, I have noticed a slow down. This seems to be a trend for me at IS over the last few months, however, my other main sites are all doing well and showing growth. Such is the ebb and flow in microstock :-)

But if you want to reffer a photographer do you have to do this??

I believe the affiliation at StockXpert is with buyers, not submitters.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Photoshelter
« on: July 02, 2008, 08:47 »
You should be aware that you cannot list images in the Photoshelter Collection if they are available elsewhere for less than $50.  You can read more about this decision here:

http://blog.photoshelter.com/corp/2008/06/photoshelter-vs-microstock.html

This rules out using images you have at the major micro agencies, unless you decide to delete them and upload them only to sites where you can set your own prices to a minimum of $50.

Featurepics.com / Re: No sale in 4 months!
« on: July 01, 2008, 13:16 »
I stopped uploading after a drought in sales that lasted a few months.

However, after I put my prices up to $10 from $1, sales have started again??

As a result I've added a few hundred more images at $10, hopefully a few sales a month will follow.

I wouldn't bin them just yet, there seems to be a bit of life in them still  :)
