It's an interesting idea in principle but I think it would be unworkable, there are just too many new entrants into the submitters market.

I think that for now, the agencies can and need to pay as little as possible to a submitter so that they can pass these savings into attracting new business. Especially since the microstock agency market is becomming saturated with new entrants.

Creating a balance between paying as little as possible to photogs to keep them interested in submitting, so as to keep the purchase price competitive is essential to their survival. What will be interesting is who will be dominating the microstock market in the next few years.

I can see just a few agencies dominating the market, at that point I think some sort of submitter 'union' or 'pressure group'is more feasible, since I feel that submitter entrance into these agencies will become more stringent.

You mean like a union?

Interesting point Leaf, what is the magic number. I guess it all comes down to how much time you have to spend uploading and cherry picking the best sites.

For me the work is done when I edit and submit my images to the major stock agencies. Sometimes I get rejected, tweek the image again in PS and then re-submit. Then I upload to the lesser sites, mainly because generally their uploading processes are easier and low hassle. But, also because I have the time to, I think 'why not' and then upload. If I didn't have the time I would bother.

I regularly use an online broker, they are usually free to set up and charge a small amount for each time you request a purhase or make a sale. For tax reasons I only trade long term, playing the market short term is not a good strategy.

I would look at some safe long term blue chip companies if you want to use stock as part of your overall investment strategy. There are numerous free online tools for assessing the risk associated with individual companies. With Getty (GYI ticker) analysts don't see this as a risky company, they see it as a good company but also don't see it as a good current investment due to the spending of their cash reserves on mergers and aquisitions. My advice would be to watch but don't buy yet, educate yourself on stock trading.

Hope this helps

I still think it's odd that Stu99 had his reviewed so quickly, but oh well... I'll submit most of my port and forget about it for a while.

Lol - sometimes it's just the way 'lady luck' works!

But, I wouldn't worry too much, sales are on the slow side of low.

Congratulations!

However, I couldn't see any isolated cars on the top 50 of the week, could you post a link!

I just hope your image hasn't fallen off the top 50 in your moment of glory :-)

I should have mentioned that I uploaded the ol'fashion basic way (10 at a time), maybe you should forget the FTP this time, at least until you have a better understanding of where the fault is.

Normal pattern of sales for me at SS, my new uploads have been selling much the same as normal.

Last week was definately quieter than usual, presumably due to 4th July, but sales have bounced back again today, (incl. pics approved last night).

lol - just checked the rejected images, and of course my best sellers are there for 'limited commercial value'.

In fact my No.1 and No.2 top sellers at SS were rejected, and four in my top 10!!

You got to love this industry (or lack of commercial judgement)!!!

Stu99 let me know when you are reviewed and I will see if mine are stuck somewhere.  (in since the 25th and 26th).

Pixart - my uploads have all just been reviewed, which took less than 30 hours. 216 approved out of 250 which is ok, and a new image has already sold which is encouraging.

Thanks for the advice Sharpshot, you are right, a key factor on a slower sales site is the easiness of uploading.

Yikes Pixart, sounds a little disconcerting!
I will let you know when my submissions get reviewed, hopefully this side of summer :-)

I just added 250 images to 'test the water' at 123. I am interested to see how long the review time is and whether or not I'll get any sales.

Based on the results of this upload over the next month I will decide if I will be a regular contributor.

It's a very nice picture Chris, but perhaps a little on the dark side.

Also, you will definately have to remove any visible names or serial numbers on the boats. It may also be slightly blurred at 100%, or could be my eyes!

Overall, I like it but it may need a little work IMO to be more stock marketable.

Hope this helps
