General Stock Discussion / Re: timelapse fps
« on: December 10, 2012, 03:31 »
I usually do 25 frames, the buyer can adjust it quite easy. I found 30 frames quite too much as i needed to shoot more photos for 5 frames more per second.

57
I want to use as a travel camera and I really don't want to worry about rain and dust... so probably the Olympus will be the right choice, even if it's a little bit bigger and heavier than the others.. maybe I can save some weight and size with smaller lenses of the m43 system

I would also go with the Olympus System, plus you have all the nice Panasonic lenses to use.

BTW: I found a shot which i recently sold at iStock which is shot with the Olympus:
http://www.istockphoto.com/stock-photo-20694341-ancient-vishnu-hindu-god-statue-in-angkor-wat-cambodia.php

As i said i shot about 20.000 photos within the last 3 months of south east asia trip and the Olympus never dissapointed me.

I recommend getting your hands on one and try yourself. If you like to ask a more professional shooter, ask Holgs (Holger) http://www.microstockgroup.com/profile/?u=567 he sometimes also shoot travel stock photos with his Olympus.

58
I'm really tempted by the Olympus E-M5! What lenses do you have? Are you able to submit to all major microstock website and Alamy?

"The quality as as good as a Canon 7D or quite as good as 5D Mark II." maybe this is a little bit too much, but anyway I love the body, and I was just concerned about picture quality for microstock.

Have you tried also shooting some videos?

I have the 7D and i shoot sometimes Stock with it. And YES! the Olympus is as good as the 7D if not better in sharpness. But you better try yourself. This piece of technology is pretty awesome.

Lenses i have:

- Panasonic 20mm 1.7
- Olympus 45mm 1.8
- The Lense which comes with the Camera
- Walimex Fisheye

I usually shoot with the Panasonic Lense. The Olympus is pretty "long" but great if you want bokeh. I would say bokeh is the biggest issues of mirrorless cameras at the moment. You need a pretty long lense with 1.8 or higher to get some decent bokeh. In this case 7D is much better.

What do you want to shoot with it?

59
I have traveled for 3 months with the superb Olympus O-MD E-M5 and i must admit its the most enjoyable camera i ever used.

The quality as as good as a Canon 7D or quite as good as 5D Mark II.

The Lenses are cheaper and sharper.

IS is awesome and crazy good.

Send me a PM if you like to get more details.

General - Stock Video / Re: Top Video Sites
« on: September 12, 2012, 04:49 »
After a good start at Clipcanvas, I did not have any sales for 5 months now with more than 200 clips on line.
Pond5 with 164 is doing much better
Only one sale at Shutterstock so far and revostock
I did not submit to Fotolia because of subs, I have only 5 clips on Istock

Since Isyndica closed down I only send videos to Pond5....
Still waiting for a replacement since PIxamba did not deliver a platform yet:(

Why you are not using PicWorkFlow for Video-Uploads ( http://www.picWorkflow.com/?by=129 *Aff. Link)

I use them all the time and it's very easy and fast to send your videos to all of the big agencies. Even DepositPhotos are accepting videos now and uploads are working too.

Selling Stock Direct / Re: Affiliate software for your own site
« on: September 07, 2012, 09:54 »
But why don't you recommend getting an external one?  You'd have instant access to a lot more publishers.

Why? Because you simply pay to much! All of them take comission and setup fees and they do almost nothing for you. You also stuck with them and their system and can't manage your own one.

It would worth if there is a massive amount of publishers for stock photos, but there arend. I know it because i'm looking into this for long time.

IF YOU LIKE TO USE EXTERNAL ONE: If you like to try out external solutions go where iStock is: http://www.linkconnector.com/traffic_affiliate.php?lc=046369001223001435&lcpid=1343&atid=Microstockgroup (Aff. Link) they have awesome support and a great system too!

Feel free to ask more detailed question, i'm happy to help!

Don't get a "external" one - get a script - either the one from Arenacreative (i work with him too and its good enough) or i recommend http://www.qualityunit.com/de/postaffiliatepro/ (there is a free version too)

If you are also offering vectors at Shutterstock, you should take a closer look at the plugin for Wordpress which we have developed. It let you show your Shutterstock vectors below any blog post or product. They also come up at the search and so on.

Shutterstock.com / Re: Shutterstock's 'Keyword Trends'
« on: July 12, 2011, 14:33 »
I also reviewed the new Keyword Trends Tool, in German, which can be found here:

I really like that they care about their photographers, this is getting really rare the the microstock industry.

General Stock Discussion / Re: who is or who owns stockpodium?
« on: December 20, 2010, 16:19 »
StockPodium is a platform which shows the possibilities for the image recognition technology from Imagga Ltd. Bulgaria. They work with 123rf to help photo buyers find a similar image.

In my mind it is a big portfolio. But you promote each others' work when you promote your own.

+ Do not even get into the business of actually selling direct no matter how attractive that might seem. You are not starting an agency. You are not in competition with the agencies. Just trying to get traffic to the work you have with them. If you get into the business of selling you will quickly run into all sort of deep potential legal issues.

+ Google doesn't matter. Use your social networks. All of you are in direct contact with a few designers and buyers. And they are. If people link to you then Google will just happen. But I think it should be about recommendations.

+ Don't get hardwired to any agency with your lightboxes. Put the lightboxes on your own site and let the members link and edit their comps to which ever sites they choose. Potential buyers may be with different sites.

+ You want to have a good relation with the agencies. What is good for you is good for them. You're all trying to sell pictures. Rising tide etc. Super positive.

+ Forget trying to be democratic. You need the virtual equivalent of a bureau chief. You need a good designer.

+ Although you are not starting an agency it could look like that. You're a hip group of photographers and designers. Like an agency but not. Give yourselves a name.

+ You want fresh content - pics of the week, a blog, stuff which gets people coming back. Your own watermark the same on everyone.

+ Forget search for the most part. Build it around themes and concepts.

+ Not a free for all. Put a group together by invite or application. 50 people max I would say. Even that is probably 3x too many at first. Mostly diamond level or people you know.

+. It will cost you money to do. Pay for a really good design. The site is not going to make money.

+ Only showcase your best work. Keep it very high quality.  Not too many pictures. It's your best stuff.

Very very true - all points are mandatory! I think that will not happen because it's too much work for just presenting portfolio.
