They have been having an issue with large (>500mb) FTP uploads for some time now - it was discussed in the old forum.  I don't know if the discussion was copied through to the new one though.

102
I am used to seeing a $1 to $2 changes on a periodic basis with no corresponding sum in the Last DL. However, overnight I saw a $64 change with no corresponding download. I can understand not reporting affiliate sales for under $2, I guess, but having no account for sums over that seems like a flawed system. How can we trust anything they say?

Probably Getty Images (if you have any) or Getty 360 from last month.

Check your PP sales (green - for some reason, Getty 360 sales come under PP) or GI (purple, if you have them) for June.

103
Don't know about image sales but my video sales there have stopped since end of June - like, completely.  Not that I'm a big seller or anything but I had become used to getting at least a couple every week.

Since end of June, nothing. Zilch. Nada. Nada di nada.

Oh well!  Nice while it lasted...

Personally, my June was pretty good, by current standards on IS - BMY for credit sales in fact, thanks to two ELs.  But one swallow doesn't make a summer, as they say - it'll take a few more good months before I feel there's any sort of improvement in the trend.

Good to read that someone is at least stable.
BTW, your post in this thread, and the total thread, highlights the problem with iStock's management. No matter how stupid their decisions, they are always right.
If I were you, and no reply with a day or two, I'd deactivate and resubmit. This is totally insufferable: http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=365797&messageid=7108599

Not stable.

My June was comparatively good for credit sales, but the overall trend for me has been depressingly downwards for the last year.  Some months a little better than others, but looking over the 12 month period May 2014-June 2015 as compared to May 2013-June 2014 my total GI/iStock income (all streams) is down 25%.

iS sales seem to have dried up
Get used to it

Do you even have a folio there?

I had a portfolio there, but  I am no deer staring in a couple of headlights. I got out to support the Getty/Google deal protests.

I figured as much. That said, your ultracrepidarian comments at times are self explanatory and have little if any substance or value attached.

"ultracrepidarian"!  Wow!!!

I like that word.

3-4 months in advance of the season perhaps.

Christmas is more seasonal than summer though. Christmas only happens once a year while it is always summer somewhere in the world.

Technically, no... Christmas certainly comes once a year, but summer only comes twice.  ;)

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Balance above $100, not removed?
« on: June 15, 2015, 06:17 »

That makes sense. My payment method has been the same for years now, only difference is I don't have to request payment. I think I was just under $100 on May 31 and the May PP kicked me over. I just wasn't sure if the May PP would count for May or June, since in the past I just requested payment whenever I noticed I was over $100, it didn't have to be by the end of the month. I filled out the tax interview, so I should be all set with the new system. Thanks.

If you were just under 100$ on May 31, then you will not receive payment. Because, how can automated system know, you are stil waiting for PP for May, which is reported on June. If the system sees, you haven't reached 100$ mark on the last day of month, then it doesn't automatically process your payment.

According to my records, my balance on May 31 was $99.58.  On June 7 it had increased to $105+ (I only check once a week due to low earnings).  Today it had dropped to just over $10.  I don't know if PP bumped the May 31 dollar value over the $100 threshold or what may have happened.  Guess I'll have to wait until the 25th to look in my PayPal account to see if I get paid and by what amount.

Then you will have had over $100 at the end of May.  The PP for May is not included in the June payment.

You don't have to wait until the 25th of June to see how much; check your payouts report (under the Financials tab) and it will show what payment is pending.

Agree with the other comments - I'd say even your less interesting clips should be priced at at least $20-$30, the best ones should be $50-$60 or more.

Also, get on ShutterStock, if you're not already.  They sell HD clips at something like $79, and I have more sales there, although the royalty is a little less.

General - Stock Video / Re: remove a dust spot on video
« on: March 12, 2015, 16:02 »
Hi All,

I wonder is there an easy way to remove a dust spot on a video? i took the video on tripod, and a dust spot on blue sky.

I am using adobe premiere, I think I can put a tiff or jpg layer on the video and render it.

I try to look for a tutorial but can't find how to do it.

anyone can give some instructions? thank you.

I previous export mov to tiff and edit in lightroom and put back as video, but it takes time and waste hard drive space.

thanks in advance.

Russel Brown's method using Photoshop CS5 Extended (actually applies to CS4 Extended too) should work fine on dust spots in a blue sky, even if the colour varies somewhat from frame to frame.

Watch the tutorial here http://tv.adobe.com/watch/russell-brown-at-photoshop-world-2011-orlando/smart-object-video-in-photoshop/

Similar technique can also be used in After Effects.

General Stock Discussion / Re: How did 2014 compare to 2013?
« on: January 04, 2015, 13:21 »
I'm down 15%, total income, all sources.  Alamy and video sales well up, but not enough to compensate for iStock losses.

First time ever to go down, year on year.  Not good.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Is iS dead now?
« on: January 03, 2015, 06:59 »
Slow, but not dead.  I've been having a trickle of sales over the holiday, except for a couple of days.

December as a whole was pretty poor for me though, worst month since, like, 2009... not good.

112
Newly uploaded files from Exclusives going into Essentials are most likely a mistake, but in times past Exclusives were able to nominate at least a limited number of poor sellers for the old Dollar Bin, and when that was scrapped all the files in it were reactivated and placed in the Main (now Essentials) collection.  There were also files, both Exclusive and Indie, moved to the Bin by iStock during various purges on old non-selling images.

Consequently, most of the Exclusive files now in the Essentials collection most probably arrived there via that route, in addition to any which have been moved there by iStock during and after the initial shakeout.

113
In September I was up somewhat in DLs and $$s, but I suspect this was just buyers using up credits.

October so far is about par for DLs, but the reduced RPD is hurting my $$s; last week was the first week this year when I didn't make enough for a payout.  On a positive note though, I am seeing more of my newer (less than 1 year) files being downloaded; perhaps a best match change?

114
Compared to previous September:

2013: DL -35%  $ -38%
2012: DL -43%  $ -43%
2011: DL -71%  $ -62%
2010: DL -85%  $ -72%
2009: DL -87%  $ -54%
2008: DL -92%  $ -57%

iStock Exclusive. Standard downloads.

Interesting... if I do a similar calculation, I get:

2013:   $ -31%
2012:   $ -28%
2011:   $ -47%
2010:   $ -29%
2009:   $ +16%
2008:   $ +86%

base iStock sales only + ELs, as I don't separate those out;  but, if I include PP, GI etc. for the previous month in each case, as those are paid a month in arrears, I get:

2013: $    -7%
2012: $ +11%
2011: $  -19%
2010: $  +11%
2009: $  +83%
2008: $  +197%

Not sure what that tells us, other than what we already know, i.e. that Getty are trying to shift sales from iStock to their other outlets, but there it is.

If only they could add the other sales without losing the existing ones, I'd be a lot happier...

It's not a problem - it means they are making a payout to you.

You should be receiving an email sometime soon, though the actual payment usually takes a few days to arrive (assuming it's PayPal).

116
Thank you...

I do value your opinion, but I will make my own choices, as and when I am ready.

117
I'm not even leaving the clips that don't sell much, I will just leave one clip on the site.  Everything can sell and I don't want a buyer to buy something on istock when they could find it on another site that pays me much more.

Well, obviously that's your choice - but I don't sell many clips on any sites as a rule, and if iStock were to be able to continue selling my clips at the rate of two a week, even at these low payments, it would be no bad thing for me, provided it has no obvious impact on other sales of course.

So, while it's a concern, I'm not about to jump into any precipitate action.  I'll see how things develop over the next couple of months first.

Or, perhaps in future I'll upload to iStock at 720p instead of 1080p....

118
Another one - that's the second this week, after having only two all year up to then -

19/09/2014 3:05 AM MDT    HD 1080 (mov)    Regular    $6.24 USD

Worryingly though, the same file sold on SS just the other day and I made $23.33, although the price to the buyer would have been only slightly more than on iStock.

Now that does concern me; they are undercutting the other sites and paying me less.  A lot less. Going video exclusive might make up for it, but then my clips could be overpriced and anyway, they don't do editorial video, which would lose me many of my better sellers elsewhere.  No can do.

I'm thinking I may have to deactivate any clips on iStock that sell on other sites and just leave the poor sellers with them...

They've been having some issues.

Read about it here: http://www.microstockgroup.com/general-stock-video/revostock-payments/

120
You're doing better than I am -

16/09/2014 10:45 AM MDT    HD 1080 (mov)    Regular    $4.26 USD

on the other hand, it's only the third clip I've sold there all year, so unless I get to feeling that iStock is taking sales from Pond5 or SS I'm not about to deactivate.  Won't be rushing to upload new stuff though...

iStockPhoto.com / Re: iStock exclusivity
« on: September 11, 2014, 04:39 »
Just an update, I know it's still the honeymoon period  :-* and iStock has some big changes coming over the next few days, but going exclusive has changed my income drastically.

Last month was my BME, nearly 300% increase from the month before. And this month is starting off pretty * good as well.

Be interesting to see what the new changes to iStock credits will do, who knows, might be better or worse we will soon find out.

Assuming you're referring to iStock earnings only, you would expect to be making at least 3 to 4 times as much after going Exclusive - see the figures on the right - otherwise it could hardly be worth doing.

The question is, how well can you do as Exclusive compared to being an independent on multiple sites?

Unfortunately, there's no way to tell that in advance, and afterwards you can't be sure either... as always, it's a decision you have to make for yourself, taking your own portfolio and circumstances into account.

Still works for me, but we'll see how the changes affect things in the next few months.

122
Actually, I just remembered that it won't be quite that simple; I have several hundred images in the Main collection too, so my average is likely to be a little lower, although at present I don't sell much from there.

As I said, I'll just wait and see how things pan out in the next few months.

123
As you say, it's hard to predict what effect the reduced differential between Exclusive and non-Exclusive will have.

If I do a similar calculation, my average RPD (on iStock images only, no ELs, GI or PP) for 2014 so far is $11.22.

After the change, my images will be priced between $24 and $45, of which I get 35% which would be between $8.40 and $15.75, depending on the price set for credits; so if the price is something about $11 per credit it will be just about the same.  It all depends on how many downloads.

At least, that's how I understand it.  I'll wait and see how it goes.

Then you should contact Franky either via the contact page or in the iStock forum;  I don't know if he reads comments posted in here.

But he has a long list of suggestions, I wouldn't expect anything to be implemented in the near future...

General - Stock Video / Re: Istock footage reviewing time question
« on: September 01, 2014, 05:12 »
Actually, I was thinking that shouldn't matter - but the naming convention of course is

Folder name "xxx_done"

File name within folder "xxx_HD"

or whatever, so when you named your folders "xxx_HD_done" it wouldn't work unless you named your files "xxx_HD_HD" ... which I'm guessing you probably didn't as it makes no sense.

Hope it works for you.  Are there no log files in the root directory saying "file not found" or something like that?

ETA: Best not to upload via ESP just now - it seems to be getting itself in a loop, one contributor reports having 800 duplicates in the queue from a single submission!
