General Stock Discussion / Rule with books in photos?
« on: July 27, 2011, 15:14 »
Hello,

Last night I submitted a photo I had been working with the main subject being an open bible.  I already got a rejection from canstock for: "Image shows protected material, this could be a logo, or other copyright material."  You could see SOME of the text of the pages where it's open but not a full page, can I not show any text in the photo from a book?  I guess what get's me is that there are plenty of other photos with a bible where you can see the text, such as this: http://www.canstockphoto.com/search.php?term=bible&type=0#file_view.php?id=3693777

Thanks all!

Newbie Discussion / Re: Buying Used SLR From Friend
« on: June 29, 2011, 15:08 »
Thanks for the replies everyone!  I'm going go for it and can't wait to pick it up.  Since the camera and lens is pretty cheap, I might be able to invest in other accessories and lenses for it.

Will it be a major drawback that I'll be limited to buy AF-S lenses only (if I want the auto-focus) since the body doesn't have a motor?  I couldn't find this either, but, if I upgrade to another body with a motor in the future, will I still be able to use those AF-S lenses with motors?

Newbie Discussion / Buying Used SLR From Friend
« on: June 27, 2011, 11:08 »
I got into microstock for about a month pretty intensely, was able to sell a picture so far, and have some pictures on several agencies.  I took a break because I realized that a lot of my pictures were being rejected for "image quality" with my high end point and shoot camera (Kodak Z812).

Anyway, as long as everything goes well, I'll end up buying my friend's used Nikon D60 for $200 (with the normal lens kit with it).  Although I'm sure I could have gone with other possibilities, the $200 price is just too hard to not jump on it.  So my question is... anyone have any experience with the D60 or advice for additional lens/equipment for once I get it?  Do you guys think it's a good deal for a first SLR?

Thanks munch microstock community!

General Stock Discussion / Downsizing pics?
« on: May 26, 2011, 15:49 »
Hello all,

I'm about a month in to discovering and working on stock photography.  It's been enjoyable and I look forward to staying up late working on the whole process after my real job ; ).  I've found this forum and have found it quite helpful.  This community seems really dedicated.

Now my question is regarding sizing of pics.  Do many of you consider it general practice to downsize pictures from the original full size of your camera down smaller or even to the smallest acceptable to agencies?  Do many of you guys do this or does it depend on the picture?

Looking forward to hopefully keep doing stock photography!

I don't understand that last comment about reducing the size?  Can you please explain?

reduce the size/dimensions of the image to the smallest acceptable.  this will help out in making noise and other imperfections less noticeable.  i didn't think about this either for submissions, so i think i'll take it, too.

good luck!  keep your chin up and keep shooting and editing.

wow, you all have some quick times with fotolia.  i usually get 3-4 days.  would it matter that i'm new?
