Canva / Re: Almost any images get rejected instantly?!
« on: October 15, 2023, 04:26 »
... BUT my total number of accepted images goes DOWN instead of up.  So I can only conclude that they are rejecting older images, or "cleaning up" my port.
Sorry for probably asking (I really don't find Canva's Contributor interface intuitive) - but where can I see the number of assets I've accepted?

Are the silhouettes jpgs or pngs with transparent background? Canva does not accept images with objects isolated on white background, it has to be transparent.

I would not know about the other images. I don't think they break any "rule", but I don't really see them as very suitable for Canva. Canva isn't a typical microstock agencie where people buy photos, but where people design stuff, so they are looking for "design elements". I can't really see these images being used for things like posters, websites, greeting cards, booklets or multimedia presentations.
Thanks, that are really good hints - the silhouettes are not transparent, I will try that - should be done within some minutes :-)

A large amount of my images (20%+) is backgrounds and textures, where I thought those are design elements - maybe they are just over saturated with that.

Canva / Almost any images get rejected instantly?!
« on: October 14, 2023, 17:39 »
Hello,

I now upload photos to more than 15 stock sites and on all of them I can see why an image is rejected from time to time.

Only on Canva about 95% of my images are rejected within 2-3 seconds of appearing in the image list and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

I have added a few examples in images below - different areas like background textures, silhouettes and my last Tenerife holidays :-)
(These images have been accepted 90%+ on about 15 pages).

Does anyone perhaps have a good tip as to why almost everything is rejected within a few seconds and how to get images through there?

Thank you,
Michael

Thank you for the advice. I downloaded the latest version and it worked perfectly.
I'm glad to hear that - I think it's a shame that the tool can't just tell you "hey there's a new version, please use that".

At Shutterstock, a real non-AI travel photo (beach scene with people) was rejected today with the reason:

"AI Generated Content: AI generated content is prohibited. Repeated submission of such content will result in account suspension and/or termination."

This is an older photo that I post-processed with Topaz Sharpen and Topaz Gigapixel AI and then with the latest version of Photoshop. I did not use the AI functions of Photoshop. I have been using Topaz for years without any problems.

Does anyone have similar experiences and maybe know where the problem is?

I'm holding off on my uploads for now and waiting for Shutterstock to respond.

It is noticeable that the tone of the agencies has become harsher and more threatening since AI.
Thank you for sharing this info.

I would like to shed light on this from a technical point of view as I have had such cases happen to me myself with Shutter, Deposit and Vecteezy - i.e. rejection of images due to AI where a camera still took the image.

Why from a technical point of view - maybe this helps to understand why these automatic systems mark images as "AI".

Tools like Topaz Sharpen and Topaz Gigapixel use so-called GAN networks and rebuild a sharpened or enlarged image completely from our photo - i.e. from the original photo there is not a single pixel left in the final image.
The image is reassembled in small blocks from a GAN AI network similar to MidJourney, Firefly, etc. and the automatic recognition software now recognizes that certain features from a generative AI are to be recognized here.

You can see this effect especially well, if you for example scale small font with Topaz Gigapixel from 400% - then you have interesting "alien letters".
(You can see what I mean in the attached image - it is a nice scaling, but it is a generated image)

So from a technical point of view, an image sharpened or scaled with GAN networks is a generated AI image and that's why these systems strike.

In short, the systems are not good at deciding between "Generative AI for complete image generation" and "Generative AI for small image elements for image enhancements" - and no I don't want to defend the systems at Shutter & Co here, those systems need to be improved before letting them run on our content.

Sorry for the wall of text,
VG Michael

Ah, my version is 3.23.6. Though it wasn't downloaded all that long ago. I'll try and delete it and download the latest version. Would you know if existing metadata is carried over to the new version?
I have done a lot of updates on deepmeta and all metadata has always been carried to the new version, so with the 3.23.8 in my case - everything worked fine with the metadata.

My only guess is: Do you have the latest version 3.23.8 installed?
I had similar problems with an older version.

Hello Jo Ann,

Dreamstime, Deposit Photos and I think 123rf accept gen AI content, but not Getty/iStock, Shutterstock or...
Are you sure about Deposit Photos accepting AI content?
Its about 2 month ago, but then my uploaded AI content was rejected with the reason "We do not accept AI-generated files due to potential copyright issues."

Have a nice day@all

Dear DannyCanva,

will we, as contributors, be able to see in the statement how much we have received via AI royalties and how much we have received via "normal" royalties per month?
We would be very pleased to receive an answer :-)

Have a nice day@all,

Yes :)
Thank you for letting us know - so I am looking forward to see what will be the first number :-)

What software do you guys use to keyword videos? bridge?
I am using Adobe Bridge 12.0.3 with my own metadata archive.

Sometimes it is very difficult with the Bridge, because the video files are sometimes simply locked and then only a restart of the Bridge helps, but it works somehow.
But the bug has been there for years :)

I have several hundred all keyworded and ready.
I was uploading direct but metadata is noz being read. so you are seeing deepmeta will read it abd make uploading easier?
then I guess I should try that,
I used DeepMeta admittedly reluctantly, but at least it can read the metadata of videos.

So you don't have to tinker them in there individually :-)

Their upload system is beyond frustrating, but if you have such great sales with video I will try.
I always just get the 6 cent video downloads, which dont motivate me to upload anything.
You are absolutely right - the upload system in DeepMeta is really not well solved in my opinion.
And the video RpD for me is $3.03 in 2023 - but I sell 5 times as many videos there as I do at AS or Shutter, whose RpD is also only $6.87 in 2023.

If you have more videos already keyworded, it could be a try :-)

I uploaded my port of 2400 clips, about 1000 of them approved but its bringing me $150/month now. About the same time I got my clips uploaded to gettys the slump began at pond5. I'm sure its a coincidence but I do love me a good conspiracy theory.
Since I've been uploading stock videos, I've always uploaded the same thing to Shutter, Adobe, Pond5 and iStock and had regular downloads on Pond5 up to and including January 2023.

Since February 2023, this has dropped to almost zero.

istock is your best video agency? As a non exclusive?
Yes, non exclusive.

My numbers for iStock:
- in 2023 iStock: 37.55% (Shutter 2nd, Adobe 3rd)
- in 2022 iStock: 47,63% (Shutter 2nd, Adobe 3rd)
- in 2021 iStock: 38,99% (Shutter 2nd, Adobe 3rd)

I wish contributors would include submission format with their video sales comments.
Added the information in my post above: 99% of my clips are 4k (3840x2160)

I went 6 weeks without a sale, and had one since. I noticed this trend started after I uploaded to gettys, although I'm not sure there is any correlation between the 2.

Has anyone else had a bad few months at pond 5? This has never happened since I started in 2016
I am uploading videos to Shutter, Adobe, Pond5, IStock, Deposit, Dreamstime - all with the same portfolio (4056 clips - 99% of the clips are 4k, 3840x2160).

From Jan-Sep 2023 I had 43% of the sales compared to Jan-Sep 2023 at Pond5, so they are almost dead for me since Feb 2023 - last sale was 7 weeks ago.

Revenue of my videos sales in 2023 are like this:
(1) 37.73% IStock
(2) 35.27% Shutter
(3) 18.12% Adobe
(4)   5.04% Pond5
(5)   2.45% Deposit
(6)   0.77% Dreamstime

Was on my way to bed but had to get back up to share this one that just popped in this evening. An editorial video cart sale....
WoW, grats  ;D

I don't assume that a rejected image leads with a possible copyright infringement - at this point the review worked and the image was correctly rejected. (if there really was a possible copyright infringement with the image).

I had exactly the same text on a rejection a few days ago (though the image had nothing potentially copyright infringing for me).
But since the image is rejected, I don't see any danger.

I also had an account block and there it was only about pictures that were accepted and therefore online - I had the name of an artist in the search words in 5 of my pictures and I had simply overlooked that.

So I wouldn't worry about the one rejected picture, because the picture is not online and therefore no copyright can be violated.

3000 in the queue!! That is more than a 1 year production for me

I would hope that getting editorials quickly accepted could help.

If so, please let us know. Might be important for others who have to rebuild after a port block.
The 3.000 in the queue are about 50 videos, 200 fotos and the rest is AI Images (about the half with people).
1.250 more are already uploaded and some 600'ish more are keyworded and just need to be uploaded.

I will of course keep you informed how things are going and changing :-)

Are you uploading a lot? Perhaps putting two weeks of very hardcore uploads could help?

Maybe editorial that has faster reviews? Just something to give your port a kick?
Yes, I already had the idea to push this with more uploads.
However, my submission limit of 3,001 files is currently fully utilised and in the last 3 weeks since the account was activated, with one exception, only 3-10 files were reviewed per day.

I could take up the very good idea with the editorial images, I still have about 80-100 almost finished images :-) Thanks for the tip!

Thank you for the update. So far I am seeing a number of downloads a day that I normally had on a weekend day before the block  :(

Have a great getaway! :)
Back from holiday - another week later my account is slowly recovering from the block.
I'm now at about 55-65% of the previous volume (after being active for 3 weeks again) - apparently you have to work your way back up in the ranking (in search), but at least that seems to be working, albeit very slowly.

According to my current calculations, it takes about 10-14 weeks to get back to the results before the block, if the current trend continues.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you that the account recovers quickly!
