iStockPhoto.com / Re: November Statements ready.
« on: December 19, 2023, 09:11 »
Since I uploaded very little this year I think that is fair. Next year I will  make a serious push until I reach 200 dollars a month.

Will I need to add 10k files for that?
I am at about $200 per month average with approx. 2k clips - and my clips are not at a high quality level.

For example this clip https://www.istockphoto.com/de/video/niedrige-winkelansicht-eines-fahrenden-autos-in-die-vorbeifahrenden-b%C3%A4ume-gm1330987881-414256398 had a $76 dollar sale last month, done with a smartphone sitting in a car.

I think a broad variation of topics is just as important as a usable quality - with a top quality you will certainly achieve more high sales.

We definitely agree - there's no doubt about the 42 :-)

Someone in North Carolina spent $499 on one of my abstract fractal images. (My non-exclusive 15% was $74.85.)
Very nice one :-)
I like to do fractals too - do you use Ultra Fractal 6 too?

I for one am done with Canva - I got about 40-60 images through out of the last 2,000 or so I submitted, everything else was rejected instantly.

I get no response from support and the Magic Creator payment percentages are so absurdly low that it's not even worth talking about ($0.25 last month on 10k assets).

Then the royalty earnings are also lower every month, even if the applies and exports increase.

It just doesn't make sense if you can't get your material on the site and since obviously nobody from Canva cares either, it doesn't matter.

So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: November 2023 downloads
« on: December 16, 2023, 09:11 »
I just checked my video downloads in 2023 for the video sites - maybe this helps you a little:

- IStock - RpD $3,09 - Revenue 33.21%
- ShutterStock - RpD $14,25 - Revenue 32.05%
- AdobeStock - RpD $9,87 - Revenue 25.90%
- Pond5 - RpD $13,32 - Revenue 5,99%
- DepositPhotos - RpD $8,09 - Revenue 1,82%
- Dreamstimes - RpD 5,09 - Revenue 0,57%

So in my case IStock has the lowest RpD, but a lot of videos sales which makes it the highest revenue site.
Pond5, Deposit, Dreamstime (in my case) are just a waste of time.

But those numbers may by completely different for other people with higher quality videos then mine :-)

@Cascoly
Thank you for sharing!

That's what I call a terse response with a standard answer.
But at least I now know what answer I will get, if they ever respond to my support request on this topic.

With every further attempt to place images there, I get the impression that they want to get rid of us (which I would understand in purely economic terms) - but then where are the images supposed to come from?

Because let's be honest, the AI offered by Canva doesn't even begin to replace any photos at the moment.

@DannyCanva:
In case the contributors are of any interest to you, a statement here would be really helpful :-)

November numbers are in:
-> Exports +15%, Earnings -2%

And an unbelievable $0,24 for Magic Creator Payment
(see image)

If it wasn't so absurd, you'd actually have to laugh about it ;-)

About 12 hours later the images got rejected (of course) ;-)

After hundreds of my pictures were rejected within 2-5 seconds, I tried myself at a new discipline today and made some "different" pictures.

What we see there is Gaussian distributed image noise and different colors and sizes - or in short random numbers.
6 images submitted and none of them were immediately rejected?!
(see attached image)

Unfortunately I didn't get an answer from the support either, so I guess I'll have to find out for myself what else is accepted.

To be continued...

I wonder what they will say if you write to them for support, although I think they will say the standard phrase... we collect then well pay
I asked the support team this question about the 6-month payout for the "Contributor Fund" and so far they haven't said anything about it.
But it's only been a good week - I think they'll just ignore the question.

Btw: The isolated png's are still in review...
Today after almost 2 month waiting time my transparent png's got 100% rejected.

It is really incomprehensible what the goal of Canva is?

Here in the forum nobody answers, in the support nobody answers and images are almost 100% immediately rejected by some automatic system.

Dear Canva team,

have you become so indifferent to us that we are no longer even worthy of a short reply?
If so, all you have to do is say so and you'll be rid of us in no time :-)

Have a sunny day,
Michael

@DannyCanva:
Is there any information about this upload problem?
I have now tried again with about 200 files, including photos, textures, backgrounds, artwork of animals, abstracts, ...

It simply rejects almost everything - 1 of my photos made it to approved, out of the 200 or so files.

Let me ask you directly:
- Is my material too bad?
- Does Canva simply not want new material?
- Am I doing something wrong with the upload?

I don't understand it :-)

Have a sunny day@all,
Michael

Rain is very usefull
We definitely have enough rain here in northern Germany - a ray of sunshine every now and then is quite pleasant ;-)

Well, you use "Gaza" and "Gaza strip" as keywords for an image that was AI generated, if I understand you correctly and was therefor certainly not taken in Gaza and the keywords are strongly misleading at best. I would not use them, whether it may be a loophole in the current guidelines or not. Also, what does this picture have to do with tourism?

Regarding the second picture: It does not look at all like any picture of actual climate blockades I have seen. Who could have use for such a fake image, unless someone buys it by mistake, thinking it displays an actual event ?
You're absolutely right, the picture wasn't taken in Gaza, because it wasn't taken at all.
However, certain basic elements of the generative AI (GAN network) have certainly been incorporated from images taken in Gaza - so it is not wrong and it is not right.
(But then we drift into the ideological discussion about whether AI images are really images or not.)

And this is exactly what my question above is about, whether the new rule only affects the title or also the keywords - and because I don't know, the images (as I wrote above) have already been removed.

On the subject of climate activists - well, just because you haven't seen this kind of gathering yourself doesn't mean that it hasn't happened in this form.
The picture was intended as general illustrative material on the subject.

However, on closer inspection (thanks to Ralf at this point) I have to admit to my shame that the AI picture with the climate activists is really bad - that was one of the first pictures I submitted.
There are clearly too many feet and too few hands in the picture - my bad :-)

I'll remove that picture later too...

68
If you were just illustrating a concept, and clearly labelled the image(s) as "gen ai", then I don't think you should have done that. From the screenshots you posted, it appears you did clearly show it was a "concept", which should have been fine.
Thank you for your opinion, which I basically share - but after I already have an account block behind me, which was quite expensive - I have become very careful.

Fortunately, my account block was only for 8 days, which was probably only so short thanks to the help of Mat and Mr Gomez, but it still cost me all my top 25 images, which are hardly ever bought anymore and even after 3 months and 4,500 additional assets, I'm still not at the same level as before the account block.

That makes you cautious and now I'd rather wait and see what Mat has to say about the questions - I can always upload the images again if it doesn't conflict with the guidelines.

69
Addendum to the previous post:
I have now checked all my images and deleted everything that even comes close to a possible interpretation of the new directive.

All in all, uploading AI images to AdobeStock now feels like doing something illegal.
The threat of an account block is constantly hovering over you and, at least for me, I feel under massive pressure here - it is not fun anymore to upload...

In the process, another question has arisen:
(Question IV) From when does the new guideline apply, as it is not yet mentioned as an item in the submission window?

70
Thank you Mat for letting us know!

If you allow I would like to ask, what this part of the rules mean:
"... from submitting generative AI content with titles that imply that it is depicting an actual newsworthy event. If a contributor mistitles generative AI content, we will review and take appropriate action, including removing the content or terminating the contributor account."

A few questions immediately come to mind here, as I already have an account block behind me:

(Question I) "If a contributor mistitles..." - does this mean, only the title is checked? Or in other words, is it all about the title and the keywords don't matter?

(Question II) "... with titles that imply that it is depicting an actual newsworthy event" - does this mean, only if a title names a specific event like "35th birthday of ..."

(Question III) Can files that are already online or have been submitted before the rule change also cause an account block under the new rule? In other words, do we now have to check every single image that was previously accepted?

I have prepared two examples from my account via screenshot (see below) and wonder if these pictures describe a specific event or if the title is general enough.
One image of those has already been accepted, one image was submitted before the new rule came into force and of course some of the keywords do refer in some kind to actual events in the world, but not a specific event in the title.

Perhaps I'm being a little overcautious, but this rule extension has me worried that the next and perhaps final account block is just around the corner.

Have a sunny day@all,
Michael

Very nice - Grats!

Watched a Youtube video earlier from one of the contributors on here (Microstock Life). He suggested that having images in your portfolio that are very similar to each other is (sometimes) not a great thing. That being the case, I am tempted to delete maybe 10 of them and keep the rest.

Question is, if they haven't sold whatsoever, can it still do harm to my account or does it not really matter to the rest of the account?
I have very often uploaded several images from a series (both photos and AI images), as long as they are different enough.
And it also happens from time to time that 3 or 4 images from a series sell in one go, so in my experience a series that is not too long can't do any harm.

I could imagine a possible negative point if you have 2 similar photos and they are both bought a little instead of just 1 photo with significantly more sales, then you have 2 mediocrely placed photos instead of a top seller.

But these are all just guesses - you probably can't really know with a system of this size of sellers and images.

But I wouldn't delete existing pictures - as Mat already wrote, then they can't sell any more.

73
@Mat
Thanks for the info - the official email has already arrived with the number of acceptances.

I have now done some more upload tests and almost no file came through.
There were many different photo motifs - backgrounds, artwork, landscape, isolated objects, hands, technology, solar and many other things.
Rejection rate >98% and almost all images rejected within 3-5 seconds.

It's probably time to give up because it really makes no sense at all.
And we don't hear anything from the official side either - apparently they just don't want our assets, which is a shame.

Have a nice day@all

By the way: About 20 isolated png's are in review now for weeks there

Anyone want to submit a more fitting expansion of TRUST, eg. the S could stand for "Slashed Royalties"?
