and I'll buy nothing with a crown : P
Why is that? What have exclusive contributors done to earn your wrath? In some ways, we are hurt more by this move than independents. Of course, it's your decision, and your money. I'm just curious why you feel that way.
Nothing personal, it just always seems to be the "little guy" that gets crapped on the most and it's the independants that get burned the most in this decision.

Photography is a "hobby" for me and my tiny little port of 250 images at IS will not sway their decision, my REAL job is creative director for fortune 1000 co.
Not only do you have my support in no longer purchasing from IS (have about 50 credits that I'll spend this weekend so that some of you can get your 20% - and I'll buy nothing with a crown : P   ), but I'm pulling my port as well. It's only worth about $500 per year, but I'll feel better about myself. We also have monthly "designer meetings" (people from area design companies get together to suck down scotch and crab cakes) and I will take my 10 minutes of speech time to make sure that they're at least aware of this.

It's unfortunate that Wall-St found its way into MS

added: and even if all of this gets IS to modify or completely drop this plan, I'm done with them.

amsterdam...the statue may BE there, but you do not see amsterdam in the photo.

I've always been a DT fan BUT, I have a fairly large-scale client dealing in deodorant / shampoo products that needs a series of "similar" shots of the same woman/same outfit. We looked on DT and they liked the 2 images of a sexy blond woman but could not find any more with her in the same series (she had other shots in different outfits.) Upon searching IS and SS, found the same series with an additional 6 and 7 respectively (wound up purchasing from IS as client didn't want to pay for sub.)

...there you have it.

my sales in toilet as well...
as a designer, I've had 2 clients this week postpone their web site projects until Sept and Nov...not a promising sign.

123RF is getting better everyday! now I have received an email telling me what I should shoot or not based on what I am selling there.. LOLOL it is just NUTS!!...

and also sending me links from other agencies, photos from a month ago showing me that I dont have downloads there eheheh crazy no?? now they are checking other agencies!.. just SS sells photos that fast :)
Perhaps they'll give you an offer to become an "in-house" photographer  ;D
I simply upload 1 image a month there to see if the reviewer(s) have picked up their glasses and put down their pipes  ???

I bet every portfolio on microstock has at least one image that could be commented in a funny and weird way.
I'm surprised none of mine are there.  ;)
...breathed a sigh of relief myself  ::)

Shutterstock.com / Re: should I give up on SS next?
« on: July 01, 2010, 15:05 »
Since the less expensive On Demand purchase cost 49$ for 5 downloads or 12 Small and Medium downloads, I don't see why it will be popular for the designers. You are way better as a designer to buy the cheapest subscription package at 249$ for 25 images a day.

If they want a particular image on Shutterstock, it's easier to buy a small credit package for 12$ or so at Istock or Dreamstime

By day I am a designer (the last 16 years) and I've never purchased an image from SS. I SELL them there, but when a client needs an image (or images), we cherry pick from all the rest of the sites to avoid wasting money on a subscription package. I'm sure the bigger design firms rely on SS, but I have to maximize my profits by not leaving money on the table.

123RF / Re: No FTP and Uploads Until June 14, 2010
« on: June 17, 2010, 07:29 »
Alex,
I think the problem is in the fact that many contributors (myself included) enjoyed a reasonably high approval percentage up until the last 4 or 5 months. Then it flipped to a very low percentage accompanied by lame / generic dismissal reasons.

While I experience a payout every (almost) month with 123, I certainly won't pull my port. However, I have completely halted uploads since a 100% rejection of a batch that had a 100% acceptance rate everywhere else. I also tried an experiment; I took my best selling 123 image (51 sales) and submitted it again - rejected for poor lighting....that alone tells me the reviewers are, at best, not "in touch" with what sells.

An appeal process simply doubles my workload and as you said, you agreed with the reviewers, so no real reason to go through that.

I will test the "submission" waters again in 6 months with another one of my top selling 123 images to see if reason has returned.

It would be nice if Ryan or Brian could address our concerns and suggestions and the reasons behind this sudden change to the agreement.
one would think...

Fotolia is notorious for deleting any threads in their forums that are critical of them in any fashion.  In fact, they are also notorious for deleting accounts when anything negative is said about them.
Yes! Moreover they are located in the worst part of Siberia...
As opposed to the "best" part of Siberia  ;D

115
bottom line:
If you shoot photos which contain manufactered products (no matter how well you clone out logos), you run the risk of rejection...

sales are good for me (in line with FT) but all uploads have stopped...will test the waters again in 6 months.

DepositPhotos / Re: Who has had sales at DepositPhotos?
« on: May 31, 2010, 13:29 »
400 files online

17 sales  total (14 sub - 3 regular) 9 in April.

As a buyer, I've purchased 23 in April for use on web projects. Cleanest / easiest site for buyers AND sellers...As FD said, they put their $$$ upfront so I'll hang out... ;)

just got mine yesterday...took 17 days.

okay, I've got 41 that have transfered. Do you have to create a "new" login (different from IS or StockXpert) to access your account there?

sry for the dumb questions...

121
how are you guys able to see what has been transfered? Are you logging in to Thinkstock? I click the "sign in" button and nothing happens..

Missing StockXpert as well...

123RF / Re: Rejects at 123rf to clear the pending queue?
« on: May 21, 2010, 07:20 »
I have no intent whatsoever to beg for re-evaluation. That's me. Don't want it? Fine, it will sell elsewhere. I even deleted the 2 ones that were accepted as they were not as good as the ones rejected, and I will mark this batch as "not uploaded" and replace it with a red stop. No uploads any more till they get their review process right again.

I've followed this thread since its inception and just thought it was the usual "complaint" vent. However, after waiting almost 2 weeks to have my last batch reviewed, everyone one of them rejected (previously 83% acceptance). 123 consistanly makes up 20% of my revenue so I'm not going to pull the plug on them but will treat them just like Fotolia; no more uploads and no "beg for re-evaluation".

Errors were encountered:
There was a database issue preventing the creation of your image. (CODE 42)

...getting the above "error" everytime i try upload...and tried different images each time...anyone?

Anyone else noticed that Polylooks reviews takes much longer than usual? About a week I would say.

Have 3 been waiting for 8 days.
