Shutterstock.com / Video Upload
« on: November 07, 2018, 17:51 »
Is there some issue at SS?  I'm trying to upload an h.264 .mp4 video, size, around 100mb, and I keep getting rejections for "too large".  Tried FTP as well and they don't appear.  Any ideas?

Why does this kind of thing always ring hollow?

"We recently ran a test with a portion of our video collection, offering low-resolution versions of clips in addition to HD and 4K files. The goal was to determine if this would attract new customers those creating content for the web or social media at lower budgets along with incremental revenue for our contributors. Most importantly, we wanted to confirm this wouldnt cannibalize sales of higher-priced HD content.

Were excited to share that the test was a success. The low-res versions attracted new buyers who were not previously purchasing with us, while sales of HD content in the test group actually outperformed the control population.

On Thursday, November 15 at 12:30pm EST, well be hosting a YouTube Live Town Hall event to walk you through all the results of this test. Youll be able to see all the data for yourself, learn more about this initiative, and have your questions answered live by Scott Koehler, Pond5 GM, Artists & Content. Please RSVP below to join us for the discussion."

Now they want to give contributors a percentage of the "sales price", which of course translates to more royalties for you. :(
-------------
Were writing to you to let you know about some changes that Canva is making to its contributor agreement. These changes come off the back of some exciting news - Canva has launched in China! Well be ramping up our operations there over the next several months. Once weve got the product up and running and have a strong customer base well be launching our contributors images for licence. That means another huge market where your images can generate royalties.

Well also be changing our pricing model so we can charge our customers in their local currency. This will remove significant resistance to licence purchasing and translate to more royalties for you. Your royalty rate will still be 35% of the sale price in that jurisdiction, and your royalties will still be paid in USD.

Canva / Admin page missing?
« on: July 01, 2018, 10:53 »
Is it me, or is the admin page with the links to sales, payments and portfolio missing?  Anyways, here they are if anyone needs them.

https://www.canva.com/payments
https://www.canva.com/portfolio
https://www.canva.com/sales

Also, kudos to Canva for identifying their tax withholding should have been 5%, not 10%, for US contributors, and issuing a royalty adjustment.

VideoBlocks / SB tries the 'ole "partner sales" game
« on: January 23, 2018, 13:22 »
FYI: https://contribute.storyblocks.com/third-party-platforms

"A share of each sale will go to the platform host (this will vary for each integration). You earn 60% of the revenue we collect from Third Party Platform sales. "

ie: We aren't going to tell you how little what we collect will actually be.  But you'll get 60%!

Don't worry, though.  You'll make it up in volume.

"By participating in this sales channel you are taking the opportunity to increase your sales exponentially."

Stocksy / Call To Artists is Open!
« on: September 13, 2017, 09:53 »
In case you missed it in the other thread, the Call To Artists is now open.  This is for photos and video.  And you get to use our super cool uploader as part of the process.

" Stocksy is thrilled to announce the reopening of Call to Artists for the first time in 2 years. We are renowned for our co-op model, making artists co-owners in a business that pays the highest royalties in the industry (50-75%) and is dedicated to creative integrity.

Applications are open to anyone. We commonly look for artists with an eye for storytelling or who have complete bodies of work.

Were currently seeking new international talent, with a focus on Southeast and East Asia, the Middle East, Australasia and Western Europe; as we look to represent and challenge traditional beauty ideals and stereotypes for a more inclusive world.

No matter your style, medium or location, talented photographers and cinematographers from anywhere in the world are welcome to apply. "

Shutterstock.com / Email About Contributor Survey
« on: May 09, 2017, 11:11 »
Just got an email about a survey on the contributor process.  It's from shutterstockmail.com , which seems a little dodgy, although it does lead to a google docs survey.  Is that domain really SS?

This article might be interesting in light of discussions of being taken advantage of...

"Platform cooperativism comprises a variety of businesses, ranging from media platforms like Stocksy (a cooperative that provides stock photography) to online marketplaces that hope to offer alternatives to tech-giant Amazon and its ilk. Though many of the businesses emerged independently of one another, they are united by common principles rooted in equality and transparency."

I go to this page:

Follow the steps, check the box, and click to download, but all I get is a modal popup telling me to download my tax forms, but there is nothing to download.  Is there a trick to this?

DepositPhotos / DP Dropping PAYG Royalties 10%
« on: August 26, 2015, 06:09 »
Received this in my inbox.  You can't see the grids, but basically, they are reducing rates 10% across the board.  I did notice the chance in PAYG royalties increasing, which will now be compensated by the reduction. :
------------------------
Starting on September 1, 2015, Depositphotos is changing the Contributor's Levels for sales made by Pay-As-You-Go Credits.

Here is the new Contributor's Level grid in greater detail:

New Contributor Rates

The existing Contributor's Level grid:

Old Contributor Rates

Please note: Starting on August 22, 2015, we decided to bring image prices to market rates and raise prices for files purchased by Pay-As-You-Go Credits. Thus, we expect to compensate authors' losses caused by reducing commission rate payments to keep the earnings of partners at the same level.

In addition, we still remain a photobank with one of the highest levels of payments to authors.

Our decision was dictated by the requirements of the market and the times, and is intended to change the profitability of the project, with the aim of giving it a new push toward future development. We are confident that our growth will continue, and with your help we will retain our leading position among other photobanks.
