I wouldn't be happy to be dropping in someone else's skies. Most sites require you to own the copyright to all elements you use.

@MatHayward

May I check a couple of points please?

I read in the instructions that keywords for a location shouldn't be included. What should I do if I am basing the generated AI on my own uploaded photo of a specific location. If the image is clearly of the Pyramids in Egypt or the Eiffel Tower, as an example, can these keywords be included?

If the AI software is used on my own image purely as a means of transforming it into a digital painting, does this still get submitted as AI content, or can it be submitted just a an illustration?

Thanks

Yes Pete, I had read the answer from Firn. But I don't know if that is the case with others - except Firn and me. Two people are not representative and can be a pure coincidence.

I guess you didn't recall that mine were also doing the same, old or new, everything with the keyword Christmas is at the end of Most Popular. How many people will it take, in different countries before you say it's not just some pure "coincidence"?

We need to ask more people to look at Catalog Manager > Most Poplar and see what's last on the last page. For me it's all my Christmas images.

So far the count on that is 3 for 3.  ;D

Same for me, and also for a couple of Stock friends that checked at my request.

I wondered if the images were intentionally pushed back and would then be brought forward at an appropriate tine, but it seems somewhat late for that to happen.

However, if it is the same for everyone, as I suspect it is, then it possibly balances out when someone searches for Christmas?

Adobe Stock / Re: Any option to change payment to $US from GB?
« on: October 05, 2022, 03:37 »
I remember initially when I researched adobe that when opening the account to choose the currency of the country you were in. After which it would remain as is. Can't remember the details but yeah conversion costs.

I joined when it was Fotolia and, if I recall correctly, the only options at the time were Euros or $US. As all my other sites paid in $US, I opted for this.

I don't have an issue with being paid in $US, I just think Adobe should revisit the 1 credit = $1 = 0.75. The British pound almost hit parity with the dollar last week, so anyone being paid in the UK loses around 20% of their income.

Over the last 5-6 years, the .75 rate has been reasonable, as the exchange has fluctuated largely between .70-.80, meaning that .75 has been a fair average for both parties. However, since June of this year, the rate has exceeded .80 and hit .95. If it stays this high for any length of time, then Adobe are big winners and the contributors are big losers.

Linking the value of a credit to the real exchange rate, or at least having an annual revision, is not an unreasonable request, and I hope Adobe take note and take action.

I have exactly the same issues. Society6 is so painfully slow that I had stopped uploading since the update. I tried again today and it has still not improved. Might have to give up for a while again. At least some of the products are selling.

I've also largely stopped uploading. I sent in a video to support, and they said it was my connection, but I know it isn't. It's painful to upload via Safari browser, but I've experimented once or twice with Chrome, and that's a bit better - still super slow, but manageable if you feel the need to submit.

This topic has been around a *very* long time and is essentially unchanged.

Yes, I know it's been discussed in the past, and Adobe are unlikely to give the option for contributors to collect in a different currency, but they could easily update the value of the credit to UK contributors from .75 to perhaps something higher and more in line with the exchange rate.

It's a shame, as the rate doesn't work in favour of UK contributors these days. My StockPerofrmer stats show me the value in $US each month, and it's annoying to see the exchange rate not being adjusted. Somewhere, it was stated that the rate was .75, (although I can't find it at the moment, so maybe that's a carry over from the Fotolia days), which ties in with the $ figure on StockPerformer. The current rate is .93, and even PayPal is letting me extract at over .89.

EDIT

I found the details:

Payout occurs in one of the following currencies / $ / / PLN / 円 / SEK  for accounts created prior to February 18, 2020. Regardless of your country of residence, the royalty is calculated based on the US purchase price of the file. Adobe uses credits to calculate the royalties with 1 credit = 1 USD = 1 Euro = 0.75 GPB = 7.10 SEK = 4 PLN = 150 Yen.

Adobe, will there be any moves to update this in view of the weekend British pound?

I know it's been discussed in the past, but recent events mean that, even after PayPal charges, contributors in the UK are currently losing about 14 per 100 based upon the Adobe conversion rate of .75.

Could we at least have a choice as to which currency we are paid in, so that we can control extraction of funds based upon exchange rates?

I could't find anywhere in my settings to check whether the PayPal email had been changed without my knowledge, but the remittance email at least came out to the correct email address. ...

I think it is here

once you are logged into ESP

Thanks!

It looks correct, so that' a relief. I guess I'll just have to wait until month end to see what's going on.

Also normal for me. Got both on the 22nd.

Thanks - I suspect something has gone wrong and hope it doesn't turn into a big problem.

I could't find anywhere in my settings to check whether the PayPal email had been changed without my knowledge, but the remittance email at least came out to the correct email address.

My PayPal is working fine for other transaction, both 2 days before and transactions since.

First time I've had a payment problem in 15 years.

I keep my fingers crossed for you!

Thanks!

No, with me it went quite normally - as always! The money is received on 22 September at Paypal.

Thanks, Wilm - now I am worried.

The iStock contact system won't let me submit a ticket until the month is finished. If there's a problem, probably the longer it's left the longer it will take to resolve, but it looks like i don't have a choice but to wait it out.

For as long as I can remember, each month I get the Getty Remittance advice and then the PayPal payment email within minutes of each other. This month I got the Getty email on the 22nd but nothing since from PayPal.

Is anyone else experiencing a delay or should I be worried?

Doesn't the map just show the location of the IP address of the purchaser? So if a customer signs in via a VPN, the location could show as Moscow, but the real location could be anywhere in the world?

Unless you're in Russia, or you've specifically chosen to have your IP address show as being in Russia... then you won't have an IP address that shows you as being in Russia. And while some people outside of Russia may choose to have a Russian IP address, that's going to be very rare... unless you're Russian.

Oh, I just thought it was a random selection based upon the last server used. Thanks for the information.

I thought that had been established in the past, when people were getting pins on the map that were apparently in the middle of the sea.

Don't get me wrong, as I would also like an opt out of sales to Russia, but Shutterstock have given financial aid to Ukranian contributors and are not taking on new contributors or customers from Russia.

Open the ESP page and click on 'Upload and review content'.

Next, click the three lines icon top left and select 'Profile'.

This opens your contributor Profile page and there is a hyperlink, Istock portfolio name, in the Profile box at the top.

Wow, thanks - glad somebody knows how to use their system.  I haven't uploaded anything there in years - are they still using that stupid CV or have they finally seen the light?

Not much has changed on their contributor site over the years. I use the Qhero option for uploading, and it's OK, but you still have to do the disambiguation stuff before submission.

;D good one. Made me laugh.

Inadvertent but so true.   :)  I still say that there are more people here, who know more and give better answers than the "Experts". Writing to SS support gets some pretty strange results, if you get anything at all.

Does anyone else know that case numbers expire? That's what I was told when I uploaded to a case and it was rejected. There's something new, for anyone who cares. You might be rejected for something that we were never notified existed?  :(  If it's true. The reply sounded like someone who just wanted to brush off the question and didn't have an answer.

I have a case number for some specific submissions. I was told when it was issued that it would be good for two years, so I guess they aren't open-ended.

Thanks for that, I never had a notice of how long case numbers are valid. Might be a new thing and I have been doing this since 2008 or so, but no new case numbers since Covid hit in 2020. So I'd be behind the times on any current regulations.

Good to know. Which I suppose means, all my case numbers have expired?

I guess you'll get a rejection if they've expired? I was told to email in again when i needed a new case number.

I opted out everything as soon as I saw the original message, but still had about 280 images that were included regardless. I've edited again to remove the PLUS option, but I shouldn't have to do this.

I also have lost the editorial option for submissions.

Their selection criteria appears to be off. I just got the option to opt out when I logged in today, and have read the notes on what will be included. This is the information given on new uploads:

For newly updated content, you will be able to choose a catch-all setting to include these uploads into PLUS. However, were prioritizing content that has been unsold into PLUS. Hence, we may relax or change the criteria and allow newer content into PLUS in the near future.

It implies that only older, unsold content will be included unless I select otherwise, but on checking the content that was approved within the last 24 hours, it's all opted in.

So I've checked closely on my 'manage content' page and 456 pages of commercial images are included in Plus and Premium, and only 2 pages are labelled as Premium only.

So I'm opted in by default, haven't had any emails, and I'm only aware of this because I logged in to check approval status.

No thanks, 123RF - you can pay me like Adobe does, or count me out. That, or guarantee a minimum earning per download, as 50% of an unstated amount is much too vague for my liking.

148
I just want to add with regard to, you can't prove that buyers shop around. But with all due respect, you can't disprove that either.

Free sites up until now are renown for not having a wide range of quality stock. But if large amounts of contributors start uploading to them, this is going to change that and the whole market could end up in freefall.

Please, please, please don't recommend uploading to them, especially in bulk.

Agree with this 100% and would add an additional caution in regard to uploading there.

Many images get downloaded for free or tiny amounts, then resubmitted to the main stock sites under a new, or sometimes several new accounts, so you really start to lose control. I wouldn't want my own images competing against me at the main sites, and potentially diluting my sales, as it often takes quite a while to notice, report and then get these accounts taken down.

I also wouldn't want someone suggesting to Shutterstock/Istock/Adobe, that my content came from Freepiks, even if I am the copyright owner, as they have a tendency to suspend accounts pending investigation. Again, the short-term gain could quickly be lost if your account on Shutterstock is suspended for a month, or even indefinitely.

149
I can only speak for myself, but yesterday I uploaded a couple of images to my portfolio and everything worked fine. The uploading process and editing the images is a bit of a pain, but that's the way it's always been.

Try uploading with another browser if that would help.  :)

OK, thanks for letting me know. I've reset my router, cleared cache and cookies, tried three separate browsers and a different computer - all behave in the same way. Uploading the image is fine, but the editing is super slow. If I switch on a product, it takes about 6 seconds to register. If I go to edit a product, when I save it and return to the products page, all the thumbnails that were visible have to reload, and it takes about a minute before the page is fully reloaded and i can move to the next item.

150
I have a small portfolio at Society6 for print on demand wall art and products. Sales are sporadic, and the upload process has always been a bit of an effort, but since their recent site update, it has become almost impossible.

I've reported the problem to their support line, but the response has been to claim I have an issue with my internet connection being too slow, which is affecting page loading times. My internet connection is not slow, and I'm not having any difficulties uploading the same images elsewhere.

Does anyone here upload and, if so, are you experiencing slow loading times when editing products?
