123RF / Re: 123RF drops over 50%, back to April 2011
« on: April 28, 2012, 00:52 »
April has been slow at all the Middle Tier and Low Earner sites particularly 123RF.

DT is a middle tier site for me and time will tell if this new price structure works. Change is not always bad.

Illustration - General / Re: how to 'crop' a eps vector
« on: April 24, 2012, 23:31 »
I use Illustrator. When I make my jpeg for iStock submission I export my file.  If you do this there is an option at the bottom left of the dialog box that you can check and then Illustrator will use your Artboard instead of fitting the vector. Hope this is useful. ;)

This sound interesting, I'll have to check it out.

Why call this special license Rights Managed when RM means something different at most sites?

Dreamstime.com / Re: DT Pricing Changes? Stay tuned...

I had a level 3 image sold as level 4 giving me my best single sale from DT. Nice start for the week.

123RF / Re: Accepted images not in Portfolio
« on: April 13, 2012, 11:17 »
I had a load of images accepted at 123rf 4 days ago and still not in Portfolio. Anyone else experiencing this problem. I emailed them and all the reply said was they are fixing it give us a few days.

Thats a few days of potential sales gone.

Druid

Patience, they seem to be in slowmo most of the time.

It seems that buyer demographics must vary quite a bit for the best sellers to differ so much.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I look into the sony one but its too big to fit into the pocket.  I am leaning towards the g1x right now as it seems to be the best solution.

I think the gx1 would be the best way to go - larger censor and all.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Mouse vs Graphic Pen/Pad

I use a mouse with both left and right hands and the pen for hand drawing with my right.

You have go to Sell Images then select Downloads.

Veer / Re: Average subscription earnings on Veer?
« on: March 23, 2012, 23:57 »
Only one subscription sale this month for 0.71 cents. Standard sales still dominate including the occasional 35 dollar EL.

One way to compare, is which agency consistently rejects a photo that the other top ten agencies accept.   In my case, it's Dreamstime.

I agree, that's the best way to approach it.

Checking in on SS is a positive experience so I do it regularly.

Crestock.com / Re: Crestock is ALIVE!
« on: March 19, 2012, 04:33 »
A new email from Crestock says:

"Your 30% royalty rate from Crestock is protected!
Yesterday we issued an announcement of increased royalty rates and download thresholds from Crestock. We forgot to include a very important statement for people like you who have a 30% royalty rate but fall below the new download threshold for a 30% royalty. That omission has been corrected and published in the announcement in our blog.

To be perfectly clear: Crestock is grandfathering all 30% rates so the only way your royalty rate can move from here is up."

I am not sure they really "forgot" yesterday, and see it more like a huge success of MicroStockGroup, which is one more time the only subject which is able to force agencies at least to listen to us. Some luckily do. Some don't, but it's their choice.

Absolutely no motivation to get involved with Crestock.

Looks like you have to go to STATISTICS, then select HOW MANY CREDITS HAVE I EARNED, next SELECT PERIOD from the date of your first download and finally click on DISPLAY STATISTICS and it will give you the total at the end of the list.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Best selling vector sites?

Vectors - or jpegs of illustrations - are selling well on 123RF.

Hopefully the instigator and the mob are happy with the outcome, fingers crossed that they are never on the receiving end of an angry mob with their minds made up before the accused one even had an honest chance to defend themselves.

Good point.
There is always someone around claiming to have invented the wheel and faces drawn on fingers have been around for decades.
There's a number of people posting on this page with IQ's that would seriously compete with that of a gnat. They don't even appear to be able to even read. The OP was not about 'faces on fingers' it was not about 'copying an idea' - it was about a single case of an ABSOLUTE COPY of an existing image in every single detail which included, and I quote, "exactly the same keywords and image title', taken 3-4 weeks after the original was uploaded (3 February) and posted on the same site! But, typically, these posters simply want to blame someone else for the events that have taken place since the OP.

They might think differently if it was their image that was copied.

FWIW - I don't think it was fair to take down the guys entire port, just the images that were copied would have been sufficient IMO.

And another thing - there was no 'mob' or 'angry villagers with pitch forks' - only a post about a flagrant and blatant copying of an existing (good selling) image.

For all the ranters berating me for posting the OP - do everyone here a favour - read the B-L-O-O-D-Y OP again before jumping, lemming like, into the mire of accusing the messenger!

If you think that SS acted inappropriately why don't you contact them yourself and make your point directly to them?

*.

I was just talking about ideas in general but if it was an exact copy right down to the keywords you're justified in raising a stink.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Old images with no downloads
« on: March 10, 2012, 09:01 »

There was no visible increase in sales, however the now-free images got downloaded between 2 and 50 times each over the last two weeks.

This is what I've always suspected. Thanks for the verification.
I've always considered subscription sales as being my free downloads.

Computer Hardware / Re: New Wacom Intuos 5 Tablet
« on: March 06, 2012, 00:54 »
I use a mouse and a bamboo but have been debating upgrading to intuos for a while now. I tried out an intuos in a shop but didn't really notice any major difference to the bamboo. I guess you have to use it for a while to notice any real difference.

Alamy.com / Re: Zooms on Alamy
« on: March 03, 2012, 12:04 »
I've often wondered about the accuracy of Alamy's statistics in 'Alamy Measures'. I used to see quite reliably (at lesast I thought it was reliably) the number of zooms on my images, but recently I often see more sales than zooms. Can this be right?

Hopefully the attachment shows you what I'm talking about.

I just noticed that you get a far more accurate assessment of what's happening with your images if you click on your "Pseudonym".

GLStock / Re: Graphic Leftovers has new Look
« on: March 02, 2012, 00:46 »
I think it's safe to say that Graphic Leftovers has earned his place in the middle tier, considering that they have accomplished so much in such a short period of time.
They have successfully produced an improved site but the low tier is where they belong.

I am curious to know how many of you have an LLC? My accountant recommends that I upgrade my Sole Prop to an LLC.  Any thoughts?

Thanks

As of Feb 1 I've been a Sole Prop for twenty years. According to my accountant, because it's just me, I have all the advantages of being incorporated and none of disadvantages.

It's funny they put this new camera into the Symbian operating system and not the Windows Phone.
