Newbie Discussion / Buying stock
« on: April 05, 2013, 15:48 »
Any opinions on the best place to buy microstock if you're just interested in one or two high-quality people images? Budget is low, around $10 per image of 2550x3300. I don't need a subscription but want high quality work.

iStockPhoto.com / Sexy? Nude? Keyword help
« on: July 21, 2010, 06:28 »
Would the keywords "sexy" or "nude" apply to the following image for purposes of istock sales?

Shutterstock.com / Shutterstock still taking nudes?
« on: February 25, 2010, 19:48 »
I got my first rejections for the reason of "r rated" on Shutterstock today. Are they no longer taking nudes?

Alamy.com / what is glamour

Alamy says "No glamour" -- yet a search of "nude" shows a ton of nudes. What's going on?

iStockPhoto.com / Rejection: accurate shoot description
« on: February 22, 2010, 22:13 »
How do I figure out what an accurate shoot description is? i shoot a mix of clothed and nude shots, and my release states this... do I need to make the release match the description for each uploaded file?

iStockPhoto.com / Privacy on istock?
« on: February 21, 2010, 18:26 »
I'm seeking a way to keep my real name from appearing on my istock images. On 123rf.com this is handled with a single selection in the account management.

istock says on your profile "This information is private and for admin use only. " but it seems to automatically appear under the copyright info on every image I upload.

Does anyone know how to turn it off?

And, before you start, please let's not change the subject of this thread to *why* I want it turned off, just let me know if anyone knows how. Thanks.

I have two files waiting for inspection on istock. Upload date 11/29/09. Anyone experience anything this long before?

General Stock Discussion / Best place to sell nudes?
« on: January 02, 2010, 10:36 »
I'm wondering where the best place to sell nudes is. Please speak from personal experience (not looking for a guess.) I'm currently on Fotolia, Istock, Dreamstime, and Shutterstock.

My nudes sell best on Shutterstock followed by istock, but wonder if there is a site more specialized in this. My work is more of the pin-up/glamour type than art nude.

General - Top Sites / Big 4?
« on: January 21, 2009, 22:40 »
Is it just me, or does everyone's earnings from Dreamstime, Fotolia, Shutterstock, and StockXpert over the past year sit far above istock and bigstock?

iStockPhoto.com / Istock speed
« on: April 16, 2008, 21:18 »
Every time I click a link at Istock, there is a delay while it loads the page... (100..99..98 items remaining)

I have a T-1 line, so it goes pretty quickly, but still take 2 or 3 seconds Sometimes longer I assume it is loading things like the advanced search and other hidden items because even tiny pages like the upload complete message have 100+ items to load

So question is: Has anyone found a way to navigate istock faster?

(I have saved the upload page as a favorite, but I'd like to not have to save every URL just to get around the site.)

General Stock Discussion / Genuine Fractals 5
« on: February 14, 2008, 23:30 »
Slap my wrist if this is the wrong forum for this question.

Does anyone here use Genuine Fractals? Any opinion on using it for stock?

I know at least one (Shutterstock) does upsampling -- but wouldn't it be best to let the customer do this? I'm intrigued but skeptical...

Note: I have nothing to do with the company that produces the product, inserting the link for reference purposes..

General Stock Discussion / photostockplus.com ?
« on: January 28, 2008, 18:39 »
Anyone heard of photostockplus.com ?  They seem to have a good rate for referring new photographers (oops, maybe I let the cat out of the bag before I signed up for comissions) but I wanted to see if anyone here has heard of them.

Adobe Stock / Privacy?
« on: November 02, 2007, 14:05 »
Has anyone been able to find Fotolia's privacy policy?

It is linked from http://us.fotolia.com/Info/Security

http://www.fotolia.com/info/privacy_policy.php

But that is a broken link. I asked them about it, and they responded:

Answers: Fotolia : We are not sure we understand your request. Please describe in more detail how can we assist you.

Adobe Stock / Confused
« on: October 19, 2007, 09:11 »
I just signed up on Fotolia three days ago, and submitted five images... I uploaded another yesterday. The images are pending review, so I'm still in suspense.

What I don't understand is that on every other site, you have to submit a batch to "audition" but I didn't see any requirement on Fotolia.

Have I uploaded enough images? Do they have a minimum to start with? What is the average review time? Should I upload more, or wait?

Thanks, and I'm glad you enjoy people who ask a lot of questions.

General - Top Sites / Upload Strategy?
« on: October 17, 2007, 08:47 »
I'm new to stock. I have about 150 images that I think can sell, making about another 25 each month... So far I have uploaded about 25 images to IS & SX that are of enough quality to sell.

I'm thinking of building 3 to 5 portfolios (IS, DT, IS, SX, FT) at once.

Or is is better to upload a few hundred images to one site, then start adding sites?

Any opinions or experiences? (of course if you have portfolio links that demonstrate what you've done that will help.) I'd really like to hear from someone who has been doing it only 2 or 3 years to know what the next stage is like for you.

iStockPhoto.com / Downloads per month
« on: September 14, 2007, 15:54 »
What is a high number of downloads per month? What should I shoot for?

My best image is 6/month, and my second best only 2/month...

I've tried to look for the most popular images, but that feature was offline...

What has everyone else experienced for dl/m?

iStockPhoto.com / Tools or techniques for checking image defects?
« on: September 05, 2007, 22:22 »
Anyone know of automated ways to check an image for defects? I know IS has at least once told me how to check an image in Photoshop for a specific defect... I wonder if they have tools or suite of tests that trigger red flags and if something similar is available to us.

Shutterstock.com / Tips on shutterstock acceptance?
« on: August 30, 2007, 11:26 »
Hi. I'd like to hear from people who have been accepted to Shutterstock (I'm trying). I've been on istock for quite some time-- but SS is a bit more difficult.

First attempt Nikon Coolpix 8700 (not the best camera, I know) 6 of 10 accepted -- I was hopeful, needing only 1 more to make it.

Next attempt Nikon D2Xs (this should do it, I thought) -- 0 of 10 accepted! Mostly for noise issues...I had shot them at the highest quality JPG, but not raw...

I only submitted images that were selling very well on IS.

My next attempt, i will use similar images, but be sure to shoot in raw (NEF) format to reduce noise, I will also try to choose more dramatic images, and shoot with prime lenses...I will also try to avoid any images that look like pinup...

Another major change I will make is to downsample my 12.5 MP images to increase the apparent quality.

Here are what my shots look like: http://www.istockphoto.com/file_search.php?action=file&userID=667505

Any other suggestions on being accepted?
