I have 140 pics on SS, usually about 5-15 DL.s per day, but last three days I heven't  any sales... Zero for last three days! Even with 10 new image..

Is there some problem , am I out of search engine, or  buyers really don't like my pictures any more!?

P.S.

Also last night I sold on IS more than whole September!!!

This twilight zone or what!?

Some experience!!??? Please!!!  :o :-\

It's sort of hard to say why downloads stop/start getting higher but the one thing i found out after doing this for a while is this: if your portfolio is big enough there are a lot less major fluctuations. And SS.. well really the only way to keep getting downloads is to keep uploading.  Thats the one basic rule for SS i'm afraid  :-\

OD's make up about 10% for me. And for some reason SS picked up a lot in the last few days, making it a decent 2nd BME (wasn't expecting that at all since september started sooooo slow)

iStock.. i'm pretty close to giving up on that site.. the only thing holding me back is the fact that of the 8(!) files i got accepted, one of them is doing pretty good.

Other then that, they obviously do not like my images.. perhaps it's time to change my style, get dramatically better at what I do, or make the switch to illustrator.. i don't really know.

Still, it sort of hurts my pride to have about 7000 images accepted at SS, while the same images are flatout rejected at iStock.  :-\

29
Hmm.. i'm qualifying for the 38 cents.. but still.. it's not quite what i expected. Especially those people who have not yet earned those 10k.. all in all i'm happy with the 38 cents, but it could have been a better deal.

Pfft.. i remember when i had an image that got download 19 times on its first day. Grand total of downloads after that very first day: 0  ???

Now that's what i call a short life span  ;D

31
I don't think it's going to be a simple 5 cent raise to 0.35. That would only be.. umm.. something like 17% increase. If they really want to keep attracting the best submitters, a bigger increase should be on the way. Well, that's what i'm hoping for anyway  ;D

32
SS    70%
DT    11%
FT     6,7%
StockXpert  7,6%
IS     0,36%
123   2,11%
BS     1,35%

iStockPhoto.com / Re: how many images do you have at Istock ?
« on: April 11, 2008, 10:13 »
I just managed to get 1 accepted last week, bringing the grand total to .. 1  ;D

35
Hmm.. the average price increases..

I'm not really keeping a record but here's what i remember:

Stock expert
will raise prices by about 40-50% this evening
DT lowered the required amount of download for an image to gain a level (and thus becoming more expensive = meaning more $)
Fotolia   raised prices by changing the size of pics and their prices went up a little. Not sure how much.

36
...

well i'm more into waiting unpatiently  ;D

..

Anyway, I'm really hoping for a rather substantial increase (let's say 0.40) and not the obvious 5 cents raise to 0.35.

37
Well, i would really, really be interested in that mail from the BTW house. You can allways send it to [email protected]. Thanks!

Oh and the sad part is..  since i didn't really know what to do with the VAT and my accountant and some other people suggested to pay.. i went ahead and paid them .. so if we don't have to pay VAT for microstock in Belgium, then i'm just hoping i could get it back (it's quite a bit of money)

One more thing, i have a relative working with the VAT department and he promised me to find out how it works, but still haven't heard back from him. Maybe he's having a hard timing figuring it out as well  ;D

38
Yeah, i'm having the same sort of problems.

My accountant says i have to pay the 21% BTW, the "kunstenloket" just said i don't have to be pay since i'm basically selling authors rights, but then i would have to pay something in the countries where SS, DT and the likes reside. And to top it off i asked the tax bureau on two different occasions what I should do and both of the responses contradict eachother. Oh the fun  ;D

Anyway, I was planning to write a fully detailed report on how microstock works, what percentage i earn and then send it in to the nearest BTW loket and let them figure it out once and for all.

All in all.. it just gets me a headacht since noone seems to really know the deal.

En geen dank eh ;-)

39
Tell me about it.. everything i create (well, probably 98% or something) is done with photoshop. The reason? I love the flexibility of photoshop, the shades, the way it works.. illustrator just gives me a headache trying to make something i could do in 5 minutes with photoshop.

Anyway, the end result of iStock being overly picky is this:

iStock portfolio : 0
SS portfolio: Closing in to 4000

General Stock Discussion / Re: Uploading Strategies
« on: February 28, 2008, 15:37 »
Well, the only site where i really bother to upload on specific dates is SS, i usually try to upload on friday or saturday nowadays, so that my batches are approved on monday or tuesday.

Looking at my download stats at SS, it's pretty evident my images have a very short life span. It usually goes something like this (with hypothetical numbers):

Day after approval: 100 dl
2nd day after approval: 80 dl
3rd day after approval: 60 dl

And then it keeps going down.. slower but going down nonetheless.  That's the one thing i really, really dislike about SS.

General - Top Sites / Re: January 2008 earnings breakdown

Here are mine:

SS :  85,26%
Dreamstime : 5%
Fotolia : 2,57%
Stock expert : 5,60%
123rf : 1,57%

I only wish SS wasn't that important for me, i'm now working to put more of my portfolio on the other sites (1000 to go for dreamstime, with 700 or so allready uploaded in january, so i hope that will have some effect for february and Fotolia.. pfft .. lagging behind some 1700 images.. i really need more hours in a day :-) )

« on: January 03, 2008, 01:56 »
Ok, these are a lot of good tips for getting accepted, thanks all  ;D

Unfortunately i'm not really a good photographer, so submitting photographs to get accepted will do me no good. The rejection reason would be different, sure, but that's about it  :-\

So what i'm going to do is submit the simple, straightforward designs. Nothing to fancy and hope for the best. If 'm rejected again, well then.. 60 days to learn to shoot some quality stock images with a camera i guess.  ;)

Thanks for the tips, i'll bring an update once accepted/rejected again  :)

iStockPhoto.com / Need some help getting accepted
« on: January 02, 2008, 05:43 »
Hello all,

I've tried in the past couple of months to get accepted to istockphoto, but somehow my files aren't considered good enough. After a few tries, iStock said to retry after 60 days, so okay, i did that and was rejected again. Now, after waiting 60 more days i'll have another go at it, but i'm sort of afraid they will reject me again  :-[ I do think i improved the quality of my files lately but not so sure  :-\

Anyway, my question is this: which 3 images in my portfolio do you think would stand the best chance of getting accepted? Thanks for any help.

As said before, jpg files sells less then vector files.  But hey, if you've got the vector files, why not create a big .jpg file out of it? It only takes a few moments and you allready have the keywords.

Someone allready suggested to try illustrations, i'd say that's a good tip.

Shutterstock is really, really tolerant on illustrations in my opinion. So you could send in 10 basic illustrations for starters and then switch to normal photographs after your accepted. Otherwise.. kinda odd that your not getting accepted with good selling pics.

Thanks all, i'm quite happy with it  ;) Still, i think i was simply lucky enough to get a few very well selling pics in my last upload. If only every day was 500 downloads *sigh*

This month was rather slow to begin (didn't upload much neither in the beginning) and it's not going to be my BME, but i still had a BDE this week with close to 500 downloads on a day  ;D But that probably had something to do with me uploading a lot on the same day.

Overall a slow month, with the exception of this week.

Thanks for that forum link Madelaide, i somehow overlooked that thread  :)

It's allways nice to see my images in use and now that i've found out about this fotolia feature i'll be sure to check it out more often.  :)
