You both bring up excellent points.  I agree, I'll let this one go.  I really appreciate it.   ;D

Hi everyone.  I need some advice.  I received an email sent through my website contact form asking me if they could buy 3 of my images directly without registering through iStock.  From the email it sounds as though they are trying to avoid buying a bunch of credits they won't use, I guess.  My question is, should I do this?  What are the risks that I might not be thinking of?  He doesn't really state what sizes he'll need or the specifics of what he'll be using them for so that would have to be worked out.  But should I even bother?  My gut tells me I probably shouldn't.  I'll paste the email below to see what you guys think:

"Comments: hi. Im interested in 3 photos i found today on iStockphoto. since I'm not dealing with photos but need some really good one for my starting enterprise in Hungary I would like to know how i could get that 3 really funny ones:

http://www.istockphoto.com/file_closeup.php?id=4462655

I'd really appreciate if you offered any solution on this, except registering on iphotostock, these are the only pictures we need.
Btw i like your web gallery very much, keep on doing. Thanks, Gabor"

I would love to hear your thoughts on this.  Thanks in advance.

Yep, they changed it.  My sales have gone down slightly too but I'm going to give it a few more days to see if it could just be ebb and flo.  I sure will hate losing my record high sales if this is the cause...   >:(  All part of the game I guess.

Same here I get this message

"iStockphoto is down for maintenance
For updates, please check out istockscoop.com.

Please try again in 15 minutes. "

Denis

What's funny is that message just showed up in the last 5 or 10 minutes or so.  There was no message at all for about 30-45 minutes before that.  They must've been having a really bad morning to not even have the message up.

Yep, it's been down for quite a while actually...

Has IrfanView changed since last time I used it?

The thing that really bugged me about it was that each time I looked at a folder it had to create thumbnails for every image, which took an age.

Or was there something I missed. It was a good program, apart from that.

Unfortunately that is still a problem...  I agree, it takes a small forever for those suckers to generate.  I kick it off, go get something to eat and come back.   ;D

I'm like Kngkyle, I edit images in photoshop and use Irfanview for IPTC data.  When I learned I could do IPTC in photoshop I think I tried it and didn't like it as much as Ifrnaview.  Can't remember why, it's been a while.  I also tried StockProMaster but did not like it.  I used it to send an image to Fotolia to test it out and it somehow made Fotolia think that I had actually completed the editing.  In other words, when I went to Fotolia to set my categories and finalize it, it was in "pending review" status already (or whatever they call it there) and wouldn't allow me to change anything.  I don't know if maybe I did something wrong or if I had a buggy version but it turned me off of it and I never went back.  It might be a great program but I didn't really want to give it much of a chance after that.

I tried it and like Leaf will continue to make more submitting to other sites.  Besides, the fact that you can't submit your rejects to any other site if you are an IS exclusive is a major turnoff for me.  Not to mention that whole "all-your-eggs-in-one-basket" thing.  Their site outages in September were a huge eye-opener.

Editing to say:  Oddly, IS seems to be down for me right now and has been for the past 20 minutes or so, illustrating my point for me.

October: .66 per image at SS with 392 images.  Making about $1.27 per image at IS with 318 images.

Well that is total. It's about 1 1/2 to 2 hours each way-depending on traffic and how often I have to pull over to scream....

I feel for you... I have the exact same commute time.  1 1/2 hours one way.

Kngkyle, you forget the smiley face or am I missing something?

It's a bit hard to see because it's in micro-sized type but he put this at the bottom of his post:

"Kidding, I referred him to microstockgroup."   ;D

I have always said the reviewing should be done by the designers.....but the designers I know wouldn't work that cheap...

Does anyone know how cheap that actually is?  I've always been curious how much a reviewer makes.

OK, I'm confused.  I thought subscription royalties were increased to .30 ... yet I have one subscription sale with 11/02/07 date for .25.  Anyone else have this problem?

OK, forgive me for such a stupid question but what is the difference between a collection and a lightbox?  Is one public and one private?   :-[

5/50 ... ouch!

I agree.  That seems pretty irrational for someone at Elena's skill level.  Hey, I'm all for increasing quality standards but they should be careful not to increase their standards above what .30/dl is logically worth.

Elena, your work is outstanding!  Please do let us know if support gets back to you on this.

ahhhhhhhh you are the one with the little men :)

I saw a picture in a magazine yesterday that I knew I had seen here and so I went searching for it on shutterstock, and found the images, but didn't know they were yours (since they use full names on shutterstock) .... anyhow it was the image of the green 'astronauts' on the hard drive walking around.  It was a half page image in the norwegian version of "computer world" - i am guessing they bought it from istock because......... on another page i noticed an image with REALLY bad jpg artifacts, then realize the istock watermark was still over the image ... opps.  They obviously made a comp with the thumbnail and forgot to put in the real image... but that was someone elses image - not yours.

Yep, that's me!  I've become a bit obsessed with shooting "little men" here lately.  By the way, what month magazine is that?  My hubby has a WOW (world of warcraft) friend who might be able to get a copy for me.  ;D

Congratulations to everyone else who have also gotten some EL's!

Yeah, EL's have been pretty scarce for me.  Until this month I don't think I can remember the last one...  Anyway, I sold this Christmas image on SS a few days ago.  I had just uploaded it about a week prior.  It was a nice little wake-up surprise for me that morning.  ;D

« on: October 30, 2007, 09:31 »
Something strange is happening. After 5 months of sinking sales, I suddenly have BME at IS (twice the sales of last month with two days left),  and my first EL there as well. SS on the other hand, has hit bottom like a rock this week, after very steady sales all October.

I too have noticed a definite upswing at IS this month resulting in a BME.  Sure is a welcome change!!

I didn't choose any of the options because there really isn't much rhyme or reason to my payouts.  It really depends.  Sometimes I will just leave my earnings in there as a pseudo savings plan and cash out when I reach the amount of whatever I'm wanting to buy.  I usually only do this for big-ticket items.  It seems to keep me honest and prevents me from dipping into the pot, so to speak.  Then there are times when I cash out as soon as I hit the magic number.

« on: October 24, 2007, 18:11 »
and is it me or do rejection reasons come in  waves...  for a while,  it's artifacting,  then for a while it's something else....  I swear I never had a group of rejections where each rejection was different... LOL   speaking of  "composition, not  a good seller"  (or whatever the exact wording)  came up a couple times this week for me at SS.

Oh my goodness, I think you're right!!  I just had a few rejected yesterday with this exact reason!  How funny.
