Veer / Re: Veer Subscription Royalties Update
« on: October 07, 2011, 07:32 »
I applaud Veer's decision to reconsider their plans - that's good.

But I'll stay opted-out. I am not convinced that subs will do me any good.

I just wished we had an unlimited option to opt-out and -in, not just until 21 October.

Yeah, that would bother me too. Almost like once you're in, they can then change the game to anything they want and too bad for you. But hey, I am just a conspiracy theorist, there aren't ANY agencies that actually do that kind of thing, right?  ;)

Well not everyone's from Belgium, and many people don't need to speak four languages to be somewhere, and some people who are learning languages are in the early stages, for some it isn't their natural bent, some have very difficult or busy lives and don't have that much time to give to learning languages.

I'm sure there are a myriad of reasons as to why a person might not be fluently multi-lingual.  It's not compulsory for all, even though it appears to have been essential for you.

Sorry.

Even in my own country (belgium) i need to speak 4 languages or i'm nowhere.
The 3 native languages (dutch, french, german) and above all english.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Do you resubmit?
« on: October 01, 2011, 17:03 »
When you have a file refused, do you resubmit the same file again some time after that to see if you have more luck with the next reviewer? Do they know what files we submited before?

Just wondering...

NO, never.

C'mon! a lot of you have been complaining about recent inconsistent SS reviews, weird and nosense rejections... and now you claim that "resubmitting is bad" and that the OP deserved to be kicked off??? so, what do you do when you get that inconsistent reviews? just resign??

Put yourself in the inspector's place.... you get the same image 2 times, 3 times without any change.... who's time and money are you wasting.?. You sure didn't think an inspection cost only once to the agency, didn't you.?..
I seem to remember you can re-submit with a note to reviewer in description field about alterations.

« on: September 28, 2011, 11:15 »
Could I just butt into this and mention that, if I want to see which image just sold, I have to:

1.  Leave the monthly page I keep open to refresh and check the daily rate increase.
2.  Scroll to the footer at the bottom of the page and click 'More'
3.  Select 'Download' from the page I arrive at.
4.  Scroll to the bottom of that page to find the last page number on the list for that month.
5.  Click that page number and scroll through to see which images sold that day

... and they don't appear in sequential order, so then I have to try to remember which ones I've already seen to spot the new image(s).

That is FAR more longwinded than on any other agency I belong to, and surely it's a very obvious thing for contributors to want quick access to.

Unless of course I'm making things hard for myself and have missed something blindingly obvious.  :)

I'd love to be able to just click on today's date, on the earnings page, and immediately see the downloads for that day.

Apologies PedroV, for butting in.  I'll butt out again now.

Does anybody have an avalanche of maximum size sub sales since they started this v3? I can hardly spot a regular sale these days and they're mostly small size.
Yup,
98 % is subs sales at L, XL, XXL
Very disappointing  :(

You can rant all you want but it's inevitable that this business model will eat itself for the photographers.

That's the spirit!  I have never been able to wrap my mind around this type of hypocrisy.  If that is how you feel, why are you participating?  This subject has been covered so many times in so many ways but the root remains true.  The need for current, high quality photographs will not go away.  As the internet world continues to grow exponentially so does the need for relevant photographs.

What will happen in my opinion is that the cream will rise to the top and the days of mediocre photography will end soon.  Lazy/passive photographers that only upload a couple hundred images every couple of years will struggle hard to find any success and will drop out.

Or it could help being a staff member for a (non specified) stock agency to have a serious boost.... ahum...

Dreamstime.com / Re: DT, is flagging images!!
« on: July 23, 2011, 14:02 »
Ok but if DT is properly reviewing the flagging, then why are people (obviously) still trying to scam it?   Are they just wasting their time?

No, I meant that the people that stockastic believes are wrongly reporting images just to try and scam for money are wasting their time because bogus flag reports/reporters are discovered quickly. Those reporting valid bad keywords are not wasting their time and eventually all reported images will be reviewed. Believe me, the backlog is enormous and there are many examples such as the one you are highlighting that are in the queue. You did report those didn't you? A tip, if you run across a contributor with many such images with bad keywords don't take the time to hit the bad keyword flag just send the user's name and a link to his/her portfolio with a list of some of the image IDs and say that there are many more and they will send the portfolio to a higher level reviewer to check the entire portfolio. I've done it with good results. As a buyer, these types of images only clog up my search results. Or, create a lightbox with images with obviously wrong keywords and send it to a specific admin like Carmen or Tangie. They will forward it to a special reviewer.

This sounds/read like you have knowledge of internal working or DT........  8)

It's not the fact you said something but what you said.

Understood. Thank you for the personal feedback. I studied design and media, worked as a designer for years. So I'm definitely on your side and deeply respect your rights. Still I like to get to the roots of things and if possible improve them.

Don't (miss ) use a situation given...........................  :-X

Maybe i can explain the UPP request:

UPP, who is an association for professional Photographers in France, wants investigations on Fotolia because french government has given to Fotolia the "Hadopi" label. This label means that Fotolia is a fair photo agency, "Hadopi" is a french government stupid project against internet fraud.
Upp claiming that microstock agencies going to kill all professional photographers in the world, because they selling photos at very low cost and for unlimited use.
Actually, more and more photographers are dying because of the microstock competition, and because professional magazines are buying low cost and bad quality pictures instead of high quality and high price pictures. That's the request of UPP: kill the RF licence to avoid the death of the photographers and the declining quality of the photography. UPP claiming also that RF license isn't a fair license in France.

I am now approaching June as another data point where my sales are about 50% off (lower) that prior to their best match change.  Can't wait to see what happens when Europe shuts down for six weeks.
Make that 8 weeks, in worst scenario 12 weeks.
Depending on what country the vacation period is spread over 3 months in europe.

Who cares anyway.?. who uses iphone.?.

Patrick.......?

I care. You've missed the OP's point entirely. There is a discrepancy in sales between different reporting methods __ and there shouldn't be.

It will be interesting to see what the explanation is.
Excactly my point... who uses it.. so who cares about the discrepancy.?.

P.

if it shows that I have more downloads that istock is not recording then that is a big deal.   I don't get why you are being so negative.

Quote : two weeks ago i found an Iphone, contacted the mac center in my city, by means of the sim card they were able to track the owner.
