he's a bit precious. all those so called pros are the same.

they need to realise they only survive with their sponsorship from camera companies because of all the sales made to amateurs and semi pros.

without semi pros and amateurs canon and nikon would be dead, and so would the pros.

Nice Point.  :)

6. See my style in the cow picture? Will that type sell? Is it a pro style? I put the cow right in the middle because I read that the eye finds it better in the middle. Is that best?

Am I mistaken? Or are there pictures of cows in your portfolio. ???

lol,  Is this a knock on microstockers? Or just some strange obsession w/ bovine.  :-\

What do the red & green arrows mean?

29
Yes, Everything.
I hate when people say they don't.  Post-processing has been a main step of photography since the beginning of photography. It used to be done in the darkroom or the color lab , sometimes with the help of airbrushing, now we perform these steps in a digital darkroom.  It's not cheating,  just making sure that your work looks the best it can.

Dump the rating system.  If I want a critique of my work, I'll ask.

Computer Hardware / Re: Macbook Air!
« on: January 16, 2008, 13:58 »
Sorry, but what a disappointment! 1.6 Ghz (or 1.8 for the $3K version). I'd rather buy the mac book pro than waste the money on a slightly thinner computer with half the speed. As a big apple buyer (regular mac book, iphone, ipods, etc) I've been very disappointed with MacWorld '08.

Agree.... I'm hoping that this helps to reduce the price of the Macbook pro though. :)

Off Topic / Re: is this considered alcohol abuse???????
« on: January 11, 2008, 17:21 »
I needed to use a stein of beer for some images.  In order for the light to work I had to do them during the day, well before the sun was "over the yard arm", thus I didn't feel right in drinking it, so I poured it out when I was done.  Now I am wondering.  Was that alcohol abuse?

rosta
Yes

A gobshite is typically one who exerts undue influence over a discussion ...

Actually, Editorial, a gobshite is Irish/British slang for
1. a mean and contemptible person, esp. a braggart.
2. a stupid and incompetent person.

Oh, the irony ...

...funny :)

Dreamstime.com / Re: Approval Frustrations over recent weeks at DT
« on: December 31, 2007, 12:36 »
Just started (October) shooting with the 5D and my 20D as a back-up.

...... Love the extra working room I get in my home studio w/ the full sensor.  I also never see noise anymore.... going up to even 200+ iso.  I'm also getting much sharper images and the 5D seems to work much better with the ttl on my 580ex.
  I love this camera

I agree with everything said here.  I just upgraded to the 5D from the 20D. I've never had a rejection for poor sensor, distorted pixels, fringing ect. ect.  In the right light I can shoot iso 400+ with very little noise.

I know that there has been alot of threads out recently about people congratulating themselves for being able to get a decent shot with a point n shoot, but if you want to be serious about this business than you also need a DSLR.  It will save you alot of time in PS as well.  (And you can quit looking silly w/ that monopod)
:) Good Luck.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Rejection Cheer
« on: December 15, 2007, 22:05 »
I have not had any problems w/ istock.  I have only been uploading there a couple of months, but I am submitting a few every week & enjoying a high approval rating.

I feel your pain though.... StockXpert does the same thing to me . :(

42

I got in on the first try.....
But now they reject everything ::)
To me the site seems pretty unpredictable in everything ~ payouts, security, rejections, support and answering the concerns of their contributors on the forums.  But I do make a little
$$ from them every month so I guess I'll stick in there.  Good luck & don't take it too hard.

Once you receive payment deliver the images If you need a license to send them you can email me through my website site at realdealphoto.com telling me what the terms are and I will be happy to send you one you can use as a reference point to make your own.

Bobby is great at all this legal-speak and the writing of contracts  that are so easy to get confused by, I use him on a regular basis to make myself sound more professional... lol. ;P

Please report him to iStock support - it simply isn't right for him to send a site mail trying to avoid payment through the iStock system.

I believe he contacted her privately through her personal website, and that he is not a member of istock....

Really guys,  this is a normal thing.  Depending on the usage he requires pixelbrat can end up making MORE money (also this is not "cheating" on istock)  just make sure that you get your cash up front and present your client with the correct contract and usage agreement.  I have actually called on a good friend who is more knowing in these areas to come shed some light on the situation and calm all your fears. You should see his reply today. :)

The person may want to purchase the image privately because his/her intended use lies outside of the IS licensing agreement - using it as part of a logo comes immediately to mind.

I've done this a handful of times for $50 to $100 a pop without any problems at all. First I check out the buyer's credentials and intended use, then spell out the rules by referencing the IS licensing agreement. I email the image (at the approprate resolution) after I've received the funds via PayPal.

I worked as a freelance pro before coming to microstock, and regularly did this sort of thing. I don't understand why everyone is so skittish about it - would you be so hesitant if they approached you after finding your image on a non-commercial site (like flickr, photo.net, fredmiranda, ...)? Probably not.

Agreed, :)  I have also sold my images in this way and not (gasp!) only through microstock.  lol There is nothing to be alarmed or worried about as long as you get your $$ up front and the buyer understands that this is not an exclusive sellout. :)
Good Luck!

Thanks! I'll try right now  :)

I'm so tired of hearing about this crap.......  these people are nothing but a bunch of whiners.  I also pay a mua,  models and location fees.  And yes I am making a living at this , well thanks to my husband working~lol   But, I am seeing my earnings rise every month with continued hard work, and able to help w/ a large portion of our bills while having my own spending $$ as well.

I feel so sorry for these "artists" that now they have to produce 60 images from a shoot instead of 10. (are you kidding me?)  It's the technology age, deal with it.  Work harder instead of crying about something your not going to change.

This is probably right in front of my face.... I just moved up to the bronze level at Fotolia & am wondering how to increase the price for my EL's ? I hoping there is a way to universally change them all at once and not have to do every file one at a time.... Thanks in advance!

General Stock Discussion / Re: Are you an image reviewer?
« on: November 23, 2007, 21:54 »
Updating my web site I added a forum with a hidden board for image reviewers. You can check it out here: How to apply... (Ok, obviously not the hidden board but the "portal" to it...) As I started reviewing for stock sites more then a year ago I tried to find something like this, a place where reviewers can exchange tips and tricks and discuss their work conditions but I couldn't find anything! So I thought now with the web site re-vamp it is a good possibility to offer this, SY

PS I am reviewing for Lucky Oliver....

I used to review for dreamstime......  I'm pretty sure that this would not be allowed by most sites for thier reviewers as you usually have to sign a confidentiality waiver.  :)
