How long will it take for this thread to be locked, or even deleted, at Dreamstime? Lumaxart2d has made an appearance on the DT board and his clock is ticking  :) Good for him in posting outright.

General - Top Sites / Re: Exclusive stuff hotting up....
« on: April 19, 2008, 10:51 »
All great comments, and glad to see them coming from knowledgeable people.

FeatPics has a "can only be found here" checkbox, but the have no clue as to how to market it. So in addition to having the exclusive feature, you as an agency also have to properly broadcast that fact.

For survival, offering at least some unique content will be necessary. I like the DT deal where I can set invidual images to exclusive if I want. I have some strange little images that seem to sell well there but probably would not do well elsewhere, so just assigned them Exc to DT.

129
On Albumo and FeatPics, all it took was an email to get the account wiped wholesale at both places.

DT is a different story. There I just wanted a single image deleted from the database and they would not do it. The image is now in "disabled land" for an indeterminite amount of time. When I inquired about deletion, they gave me somethong about legal and liability issues, etc. Understandable, but's not like I was looking to delete 20 best sellers or an an account, just one image that never sold, that I wanted to reroute for different use. I figured it was safer to delete it than have it get reposted by me for sale in error.

Just found that Lumaxart2D is the first listed Fave Photog for this Zillman character. Well I guess if you fave him you can lift an image or two. That's just too ballsy.

131
I don't know how reviews are done at DT, but I think it's a fair comment to say that having 1200+ images many/most of which were stolen from other contributors go through the review system in 2 months indicates they need to take a serious look at what they're doing to prevent this type of thing from happening again.

It's not that people will stop trying to pull these con games, or even that the sites fall for it initially, it's that so many images did in such a short time and none of it raised any red flags.

I looked at this user's referrals and noted one new photographer, Photosmillenium, for whom zillman98 is a favorite. I was staggered at what's been approved for him - page after page of simple bursts and sunrays, things that I'd never have thought DT would approve (very low quality work, IMO). I don't recognize any of the stuff though.

Then I noticed that a site admin, Anyra, lists zillman98 as a favorite photographer.  He certainly wasn't flying under the radar...

Well that's quite interesting to hear. I don't submit too many fractal images, but just about everyone I do gets bounced. And the ones I do are not garbage either. A cuple of weeks ago, as a trial, I did a cherry blossom handmade paper looking background with cherry blossoms handcut from photos, and that got bounced. Then I look at this Zillman trash, the latest uploads all that nonsensical garbage fabric, and it just ticks me off.

Now that you mention this Anyra connection, I am furious. Because I look at my stuff, then look at that fabric trash, and ask "How?" I can't be so unlucky as t get Atilla the Reviewer everytime.

I really can't complain too much about the DT rejections because I do have a high acceptance rate. I am not a mega submitter. But in the case of the paper background, I did work hard to produce something very different for me, that looked very good, only to have it cast aside. Wanted to try the paper as they seem to sell well at DT.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Flickr API
« on: April 18, 2008, 19:35 »
Why would you even think of putting stock ready pics on Flickr. People won't buy them because they already have them. The copyright notices mean nothing there in today's world, making it a big dash and grab. And yes, even businesses have done it.

133
Sounds like a scam to me.

The same thought occurred to me as their domain is via Domains By Proxy and the actual site owner name is masked. Bad business right off the bat if you want to be reputable.

134
Stumbled upon this on the web when searching for someting else. It's a blog post - the site is not even built yet. Another, "yeah we'll pay you to upload" a la Albumo. And the Test Submission criteria ridiculous, if not ambiguous. Take a read for yourself.

You guys have been doing better at finding the originals, but as I looked I knew I'd seen these images before.

However, I've been looking through this scumbag's "portfolio" on DT, I've noticed the amazing spam in his keywords - woman, women, summer,  beach, etc. in images that had none of those things.

I don't know why this portfolio is still up on DT - a couple of you contacted support earlier, right?

In addition to how so many images could slip through, I can't imagine why anyone would approve these keywords. They are pure, blatant, no-gray-areas spam.

As to the OP - this isn't the first time this has happened and we all need to look out for each other. It's clear the sites can't do this - why didn't any alarm bells go off before, I wonder.

I doubt if the port is up elsewhere. The guy can't spell and you are right it is full of spam. I have fired off a few notes with image IDs and even SS and IS links to DT, the last one being the GoldGuys Baseball Trophy image. The Lumaxart2D user is a major DT contributor, so they have no choice but to take notice.

As far as hearing back from them, don't forget that they were probably gone for their weekend by 1 pm US Eastern Time, so email will probably not be addressed until the wee hours of Monday US Eastern Time.

136
How stupid is this?? Here one snatched from Lumaxart2D, the artist who does all those Gold Guys.

The Zillman version

THe Lumaxart2D version

Ok I'm done - this one was the topper for me and the ultimate in thieving stupidity.

And one more just for fun. Here is the DT version

Here's the SHutterstock version I found

http://www.shutterstock.com/pic-2303158-retro-microphone-with-reflectors-on-background.html

So looks like Zillman98's most popular images can also be found elsewhere under a variety of different user names. Imagine that  :)

Here one more from user Zillman98 on DT

Here is what I believe to be an original on Shutterstock

I have sent a few nastygrams to DT.

Could probably find a lot more if you want to spend the time on it. This one was easy for me to find.

Featurepics.com / Re: How to Close Account
« on: April 18, 2008, 10:29 »
I closed mine at FP just recently - even my views seemed to stop there. I just sent an email to their support address saying I no longer had time to maintain. It was taken care of the next day.

140
how did they both get accepted ???

should not one be rejected with "we already have something like that?" ???

It should be more like "we already have something EXACTLY LIKE THAT". If you look at the portfolio of 3rdimension, the range and quality of the portfolio does not compute. Overly simplistic backgrounds, huge 3d single block letters, but throwing in a few concept car renders for good measure. The overall flavor is not consistent. The one submissions is vector, yet the other is just a medium bitmap. My guess is something is fishy here.

I think I will send off a support note to DT for them to take a look.

Addition: I just sent off the inquiry to DT support on this.

141
Got in on STockX first try, but the stuff is just laying there. Small group but still think I should e getting some views at least.

Next step for StockX is to do a sales analysis there of what does sell there and take a good look at my descriptions and keywording.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Who`s Next??????
« on: April 17, 2008, 02:07 »
I think Albumo just has to be next. I shoot a lot of food, so I so some looking around in those categories to see what the competition is like. A search there just now of the "most popular by download" image for search on "food" has 53 DLs. It also had 53 DLs in January, and 53 DLs in October when I joined.

So their most popular food image has sold zilch in 6 months. Not a good indicator of sales or growth. I am glad I bailed out in February.

I am also a little confused at the keyword changes, I have a few images of human icons which are definitely people related and they have had the words "nobody"and "no people"added, does anyone know why they do this?

It sounds to me like keywording is being outsourced to some english as a second language workers. This should be a definite point of concern. No one knows your images better than you do, especially for narrow sector subject matter.

145
If you are talking about submitting vectors, they will also have to be technically perfect - no stray points, no open paths, And no transparency effects or other effects that don't translate to an EPS version 8 format. Many starting out who think vectors will be easier will do a fancy thng with all sorts of drop shadows and other fancy stuff only to find it rejected for incompatibility reasons. So it is worth your while to understand the technical requirements before diving in.

For vectors, I suggest you go through the "application process" for vectors at iStock to get an understanding of what is required. It's like a giant tutorial explaining tech requirements etc. You can always just go through it without submitting anything. Just abandon the application when you are done reading the stuff.

Bitmap illustrations, on the other hand have no such constraints with regards to effects because it is a flat raster file. I usually submit mine 6000 pix on the long side. Whether they will be accepted or not (or be saleable) depends on the subject matter. My illustrations do well.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Generic Model Release?
« on: April 11, 2008, 20:53 »
I did the forum search. I found what I thought would be suitable in a post from FlemishDreams however the links no longer work. Thus the question.

Would also be interested in knowing what DT is taking (accepting). They bounced one from a frind of mine for "no email address". The model of 76 years old does not own a computer, nor does he want to.

General Stock Discussion / Generic Model Release?
« on: April 11, 2008, 14:28 »
I have always used a generic model release for Rights Managed stuff. Plain, simple and't's always worked. But I see the micros are into this witnessing thing, wanting phone, email, rights to first born male child, etc.

Does anyone have a link to a model release thay will work for SS, IS, and DT?

I also notice that in some cases, like in the case of the iStock photo release which is pretty wordy, they seem to want to indenify IS in particular. Has anyone had a problem with stripping all the IS baloney and using it?

My generic release still works for RM stuff. Yes I have added this "Witness" thing. But will IS, SS, and DT bounce back the generic? The models I deal with are not really interested in signing 5 pieces of paper, plus I have older worthwhile shots (about 2 years back) that can be submitted where I would have to track down people to get additional sigs.

Any worthwhile comments welcome. Thanks!

Alamy.com / Re: What about sales and accepting in Alamay?
« on: April 11, 2008, 14:16 »
You have to understand that Alamy is a totally different animal from micro. Sometimes the buyer will just "consider" an image for a few months. And even after downloaded, there is always a chance of it being returned if the image does not work out as expected. It is absolutely not in the same class of the "download fever" micros.

Alamy instituted the ZT, or zero tolerance policy last year. It certianly does make one pay more attention.

New Sites - General / Re: StockRiot
« on: April 11, 2008, 14:08 »
On a very quick look, they seem to have a very small photo inventory. It looks pretty poor for being around since fall 2007. On Hoilday images, usually a huge catagory for stock and one that pays the bils for the site, there are only 35 photos and a lot of them are crap. THeir "most popular" also seem to be a little lackluster.

In the category Landscapes & Nature, again only 493 photos. C'mon, where are all the flower photo dumpers? Again. looking at the ranking of Most Popular, some are a real bore.

Not discounting everything totally, but they don't even seem to have good contributor traffic.

I wish you luck with it though. Let us know how things go.

Albumo.com / Re: Closing Account @ Albumo
« on: April 10, 2008, 17:36 »
I closed mine successfully in Feb with only one email via their contact form. THe ever replied, but I just tried the login in the days following the request, and on the third day I was locked out. THen did some searches where I know only images of mine woud turn up (some unique subkjects) and they were gone as well.

Maybe they are PO'd because there is possibly a mass exodus going on.

They shouldn't be doing any b%tching about people leaving - after all they were a total failure in marketing the site. There was some web activity in Nov 2007 with some link placements here and there on the web, but after that it all stopped.

I was there since very late Sept 2007. 300 images, fifty cents in sales - a photo of cookies. Heck I ain't no Yuri, but I'm not exactly the bottom of the food chain either. I try to look at it more as an education rather than a giant waste of time - sometimes that works and sometimes that doesn't!
