Hi brasilnut!
I think it was for too much negative comments when SSTK start with the reset button in January and new levels system. But to be honest i don't miss it.

Pond5 / Re: Pond 5 Sales & Discounting
« on: July 18, 2022, 04:39 »
Today I sold 3 clips on P5, and 2 of them were discounted by over 50%. I checked and none of those clips are available as subscriptions when you filter as Subscriptions in the search under Collections. So I am assuming it cannot be that.

I know that P5 reserves the right to lower pricing for non-exclusive contributors if they believe its too high for that type of asset, but when I checked the listed price they are listed as $57.00, not $26.00.

Hi Annie, maybe it could be other thing....
if your content is being sold in other marketplace by less P5 will match same price. This was introduced by p5 in 2018/2019 contributor agreement. However they change a little bit lately (some months before the SSTK merge).

If you go to section 3. Pricing and Your Share of Net License Revenue, article v in contributor Agreement (link : https://www.pond5.com/legal/contributor)

"notwithstanding anything to the contrary provided in this Section 3.a., you shall not set the price for an item of Content that is higher than the lowest price for which the same (or substantially the same) Content item is offered by or on any other media marketplace, agency or other redistribution arrangement (each an "Other Marketplace"), and if we discover that the Content item is offered at a lower price by or on any Other Marketplace, we may lower the price in our marketplace to match or beat that price."

my guess is that probably was removed by some moderator.

There is only one moderator who can do that, the site owner. From the past, there are no other moderators. It's his site, he has that right.

When the discussion stops being point and counter-point and becomes personal attacks or lopsided, biased insulting attacks, (from opposing sides of the opinions) there's a high probability that it will disappear.  8)

A juicy conspiracy theory is far more believable than the truth!

Yeah and I can never understand why? Seemingly intelligent people, will get fooled and spread the disinformation, as if it's factual?

My best thanks Uncle Pete for sharing this info. It wasn't exactly my idea when I made this topic. But I agree that there were times when I also felt that things could get a little more tense.

Either way, I do respect choices of moderator.

Adobe Stock / Re: Ai creates Artwork - how to upload?
« on: July 07, 2022, 14:26 »

"When AI can generate people and scenes that are really high definition we will be in trouble."

you already can! Just use Ai scale for that. You can purchase for 99$ Gigapixel from Topaz labs products you can try for free too. I've been using it since 2019/2020.  With this Ai sw you can Upscale and enhance any image by up to 600% while preserving image quality, texture, and detail.

But my major concern is actually using eyes for training even in academic purpose. You see there's not just AI art going on. And the eyes just like fingerprints, identical twins don't share the same iris swirls and patterns, so each of their irises is also unique.

I am sure you all are aware of AI tracking. There is a lot of types of Ai tracking... you can have already also in cameras such as R5, right? So "imagine" that instead of using the AI pyton code to use 70K eyes and produce a new unique eye you use it to track similar images over the net. This is not sci fi anymore. I think we all know there is a device that we use and look at all time and constantly doing selfies and tik tok movies, shared in social media, right?

It is not distopic to think that AI in the wrong hands can have bad results.

Anyway... there is always a workaround: use sunglasses! ehehehe 8)

Justanimage, I understand what you are saying.

Please understand also that all digital images are made in a unique combination of RGB pixels which is transformed in to numbers. Each Digital Image is combine in a unique way that may depend in the format you use (tga, png, jpeg, Gif, etc)- Mathematical formulas in binary code. The image itself is protect by law digital (binary code not pixel) or analogue and you can't use it even for training without consent of the owners.

In 2004 i was in R&D project where we need to train an algorithm to improve the pap smear diagnosis for the doctor based on image match. So you can imagine the process... a lot of diplomacy talk, European commission, Project officers, Evaluators, lawyers, Signatures, paperwork and consent (women, hospital and government)

But let's do the other thinking to explain it better...an image is binary code. your formula (code) too. So imagine you release your formula/image online so people can purchase or see your work. Now imagine that i will take it and put in a machine learning to the point where i create a new one. I will be violating your own work, right? Even if it was new the binary code was once based on yours or not? you know it was... otherwise will be a blank code producing blank formulas.

Actually this thinking already exists and its called "machine dreaming" and it's made by steps through generative adversarial network (GAN-AI) to produce new formulas(binary code), images (png, jpg, mp4) or sounds (wav, mp3).

So you said   "The eye is generated by a formula trained by lots of eyes....."  therefore i must ask,  real people eyes or "made" by you? do you have consent? do you ask or pay?

"... but to generate this eye, not a single pixel of the original images is used."  Of course not. You don't need it anymore. you train your machine to produce the necessary binary code/formula with generative adversarial network.

I will give an good example of my point. there is the site called https://generated.photos/

Please go there.... it is a microstock site where you can buy Generated photos like yours created from scratch by AI systems. All images can be used for any purpose without worrying about copyrights, distribution rights, infringement claims, or royalties. But you must pay to use....of course

and at the end of site you will see that was trained on studio photos by Icons8 who was paid or give consent from owners, right?

Hi,
You produce an image that is made from other images so first all images must be yours.

Example: let's say you want to make an landscape of an ocean in a desert with a moon. if you use Photoshop for that i am sure you know that the picture of desert, moon and ocean must be yours first.

You don't need a property release of AI Gan technology SW like you don't need a property release of Photoshop SW to produce digital images.
What you need is just to Describe property covered by release including intellectual property, details of any registration / other description.

Something like Gan technology/digital image and reference to your intellectual property number is enough.
If you are going to "make" new humans you must add all property releases (probably the "thousands of images" as you described, at least). So the human eye that you generate with GAN it is arguably. It is not generated with a 3d SW like c4d, blender, Maya or Zbrush but with AI-Gan since the stitches, blur and merge are an evidence in the image (typical artifacts from GAN merge pictures) not to mention the missing of eyelashes.

This is good and as expected.  But what's next?  Maybe Pond5 clips appearing on Shutterstock instead.  Will they be available for Shutterstock video subs?  I hope not.  At least exclude Pond5 exclusive clips from Shutterstock video sub and make Pond5 exclusive clips for non subscription only, I hope.

I don't think p5 contributors will have their content in SSTK soon. During merge, the P5 CEO explained that they were not planning to do it.
I share Jo Ann vision. it's more a case of cutting resources of clips from primary business rival.

What happened to the Roe v Wade thread?

I really don't know Annie.
I was the one who start the topic "off-topic" and my guess is that probably was removed by some moderator.
Maybe some people did not like and report it.

I care about people and my concern was genuine about what was happening in the news. And I know this is a forum about microstock but despite being an off-topic subject like this one, it didn't seem very democratic to end it.

It is worth watching, but I doubt it will replace us in the next 10 years.

But it is fun to use, I play with the nightcafe creator.

I think part of the idea is not actually replace us but increase the volume of our work. 10 years ago i barely could do 10 pictures a day with all the steps of cleaning, some rotoscopy, colorize etc... Today with AI in photoshop or LuminarAI and some scripts i can easily do 40 in a day. But if we talk about cleaning for just green screen my personal record is 327 pictures in a day.

In ten years perhaps volume will be so easy to create digitally than a lot of individuals can actually have a personal microstock site store with millions instead of thousands. But for news or documentary stuff i think this will continue shy with no big changes

Hi all. I've been blown away by how the A.I software Dall e 2 can make any image possible and when it goes live I just wonder what impacts it will have on the stock photo business. The future looks scary and it's fast approaching. I've always been one to look at the future and evolve my talents to fit. It's going to be kinda hard with Dall e around.
A friend of mine has early access to it and the results are just astonishing. Especially if it's in its infancy. Where this all goes is mind-blowing. Thoughts???

This is really nothing new to me in terms of technology. Go search in github or deep ai. you have a lot of AI trials that you can test. In fact i already sold some stuff made with AI with my database. Also videos and animations.

Scary is what we can do with Metahuman plugin for Unreal engine. Deep fakes are very accurate with this technology.

SSTK rate i think it's just stupid in any perspective.

With another year / decade gone by Im happy to share with you my first monthly report for 2031

In 2031 we will not be selling.....we will be paying clients to use our work and maybe selling metadata about them ;D ;D ;D

Last 2 years I've been purchasing more stuff from envato authors in their independent websites.
New stuff is never upload in envato. I wonder why? ;D

General - Stock Video / Re: Keycutstock?
« on: June 06, 2022, 10:10 »
Hi,

As far as i know It's a South Korea company and i don't use it since they ask for the raw footage and wanted to edit it themselves the clips. Raw footage is the best proof of ownership.

It came to my knowledge too that they are to slow to put online the clips (2/3 months). They offer a high % and they will do the keyword but 0 sales after 6 months with 10K video portfolio.

Pond5 / Re: Pond5 has joined Shutterstock

if they shutter pond5, they will start making restrictions on buying and selling to get people to move to shutterstock

so if you see pond5 start to have new restrictions added to make your life more difficult, you will know why

I am sorry but it does not make a lot of sense to me.

Big Stock was bought in 2009, Premiumbeatin 2015, Turbosquid last year. All sites are online and still selling like stand alone brands.

I see already "restrictions" in Adobe too and that doesn't have to do nothing directly with SSTK, right?  Actually I have been seeing "restrictions" to contributors for years now....It's call market.  ;)

...they don't respect Biden, kinda like the rest of the world.
I can assure you, the 'rest of the world' (I can't speak for everyone, but from what I'm hearing and reading) respects Biden.
We didn't respect Trump, recognised him as an idiot ("does China have hurricane guns?") and couldn't imagine why anyone would vote for him.
I'd vote for Howling Laud Hope before I'd vote for Trump.

I am from EU country and i can say that I will always respect any President from USA. I like Biden but had difficulty to understand Trump.

Because of low price share of income of big platforms my guess is that, slowly, this market will be following the trends of other markets. Just like Amazon, Etsy or Skillshare contributors, i see a lot of them migrate to personal websites. The old stuff is still in those platforms but new is not.

Buyers will always follow the new stuff.

Markets are always evolving....probably this will be the future: using a few old eggs in big platforms and link the rest to your website with new fresh stuff.

119
Funny... history tell us that after a Pandemic, recession and great wars (wwi and wwii) arrive. Calling it "Biden recession" when all the world is in recession? and near to wwiii after Russia start a war in Europe? I wonder what terms you will use when peace and good economy arise again. Dreamstime? ;D ;D ;D

Hi,
For my perspective P5 is doing ok for me.
If sales went down it probably has to do with a number of factors but for sure is not the quality of your work.

Pond5 hit 30 million clips and 100.000 contributors. Trends are always changing and algorithms revised too. Also if you sell your clips in other microstock sites for less this can be a factor too.

Perhaps diversifying your database or betting on a niche in a lot quantity can help you get more sales.

All the best for your sales!

Gift economy?!  ahahhahahahaha  ;D ;D ;D

The "big" difference i find between contracts is that GPP and LPP are not a option anymore.
I got this GPP/ LPP program turned on.  Usually i don't get much of LPP sales but GPP sales comes quarterly and it's ok for me.

Adobe Stock / Re: Announcing Adobe Stock video subscriptions
« on: March 13, 2022, 17:34 »
Fine with this as well... 60% of my income comes from sites that only offer unlimited subscriptions. Take Storyblocks for example... my best year with them prior to them going back to 100% subscription was $2500, and last year I made $8500 with them. Probably helped by all the contributors leaving as they assumed their earnings would be decimated... so thanks for that!

Well if it works for you, good. But i've been there and done it for 4 years. Since 2020 I have tried a different approach: my income comes 100% from no subscription and with better total income (30-40% increase). Probably both ways work. My guess is stick with the one it works for you best.  ;)

More exciting news. The last thing that still provided decent return is gone. I used to upload my videos to Adobe first, see which ones would get traction and only then upload the low earners to SS. Now this is pointless.

Spend a pile of cash for very expensive 3d software and a powerful enough PC, spending hours and sometimes days modeling, texturing, lighting... Then rendering which also takes awhile, then editing, then keywording...
Good effort, here's a buck...

Full agree with you. The price and time spent in making a 3d video cannot be compared to shoot video camera or something done in a simple after effects program. Also let's not forget to mention the electricity too. A 3d video in 4K usually takes me 2/3 days to model and composite a and then week (non stop) to render. Less than 250$ a clip is bad business. forget adobe for that! just shoot videos and photos with your phone. For a buck that is what clients or Adobe deserve.  ;)

i wonder if people will still post the SS earnings when things looks 10 times worse....In a way it seems like a "dark" pleasure of continuing to post the fall to abyss instead of shutting the account in SS. Its obvious that its not profitable. So why continue SS? i can't understand it.  Anyway best of luck!! ;)
