General Stock Discussion / Re: Adobe sales are very slow.
« on: December 15, 2021, 18:41 »
Define what is bad or good material?
For example if it's Editorial footage from a good camera, not shaking and without grainy noise i will usually not buy it!
Normally when i buy, i buy more doc stuff so i prefer rather natural and more amateur than "candy" Pro stuff. It seems more real, believable and natural.

So maybe what we think it's trash perhaps is gold for others.  ;)

In my opinion Content is King no matter the "quality". I rather use "Demand" to define what you call bad or good. If there's demand then you probably sell more then something that have few demand. Now if you don't upload i am sure that you will never sell.

Pond5 / Re: Signing Out of Pond5
« on: December 10, 2021, 09:34 »
Hi,
Still doing HD for footage. Still selling some. Doing 4K/8K for 2d/3d animations but mostly are sold in HD too.

I don't see big point in uploading 4k or higher. Probably most of people will directly migrate from HD to 8K in the following years. The only advantage i see is that its less saturated markets and maybe its easier to a customer find our work in millions of clips if they use 4k/4k+ filter.

I think the the rule maintains "content is king" but let's not forget that someone can rescale HD to 4K nowadays with AI pretty good or near to amazing. Maybe it makes useless to a customer to pay for a 4k clip. For me the question is ....who needs 4K, really?  I never had a client that requested a "normal" 4K film, only HD. My other works are for arenas projections - requirements are mostly unique Huge formats or 8k/16K. In my opinion i see 4k has nothing really special since I don't need for most of my projects.

I upload just a few of 360VR footage and animation. never sold. Tried Verticals videos too. never sold. ;)

Off Topic / Re: Facebook Down
« on: October 04, 2021, 20:28 »
I find kind of "cool" FB being down. Just a little vacation from these social networks can be good for all of us.
Maybe it should even happen more often   ;D ;D ;D

Just arrived from 8 days trip in mountains.
I used my dslr with tri/monopod. Actually most of time just the monopod.

I did use my phone too and it's very convenient and enough for some moments. I still use the same smartphone for 7 years which is fine for calls/net/drive drone. I see great future in smartphones but i will not spend 1.000 for a tiny sensor that comes in a phone. Plus i cannot use my lens.

I rather wait a little more or pay that money for a new body to use my lens ;)

General Stock Discussion / Re: tattoos are not copyright the author
« on: September 09, 2021, 11:47 »
I had this tattoo issue two year ago.

I was shooting a crowd with unfocused blur but suddenly someone passed near my camera where my focus was pointed. It revealed a hand with a part of tattoo for a moment. I was told that i need a tattoo copyright and from the person too because it also reveals the person's identity.

I end this by deleting the shot. ;)

Anyway this will be more confusing for me if this laws goes for "Carnal art" where Plastic surgery is considered an art form. Works like ORLAN are Art but the line is thin for me between reconstructive surgery/cosmetic surgery and if surgeon has copyrights too. Now let's imagine how Hollywood Vip's world would be if each time we took a picture from an actor we need to pay to the surgeon a copyright release too. ;D ;D ;D

Funny, ridiculous, Hard to believe this bla bla bla of SS.  ;D ;D ;D

Laws tend not to be black and white....you may have a right to take photographs of people in public places but they also have a right not to be harassed by people coming up to them and poking a lens in their face. The grey area in between is why we have lawyers and courts. If someone doesn't want their photo taken and tells you that  then I think its a matter of common decency to respect that.

I couldn't agree more with you.

However, in the grey area there are countless photos that go to the world press photo and that do not contain the rights signed by the person photographed. This is the case of war scenarios, among others.

I recall that one of the most celebrated photographs of the last 100 years is Robert Capa's The Falling Soldier during the Spanish Civil War in 1936. Or even Napalm girl, the South Vietnamese-born Canadian woman best known as the nine-year-old child depicted in the Pulitzer Prize-winning photograph. Not to mention The Falling Man of World trade Center taken by Richard Drew.

The photos had no consent. This paddles to the terms of what is "common decency". You will see that have a lot of grey areas too.

Not in Germany.  ::)
[/quote]

Yes you can Firn. ::)  Please read article 23 and 24 of the link you shared.

23. Without the consent required according to 22, the following may be disseminated and displayed:
1. Portraits from the realm of contemporary history;
2. Pictures in which the people appear only as accessories next to a landscape or other location;
3. Pictures of meetings, elevators and similar events in which the persons depicted took part;
4. Portraits that are not made to order, provided that the dissemination or exhibition serves a greater interest in art.

24) For purposes of the administration of justice and public safety, portraits may be reproduced, distributed and publicly displayed by the authorities without the consent of the person entitled or the person depicted or their relatives.

Furthermore you still have some more exceptions for photojournalism and medical/science /education. For example I was in R&D project co-finance by EU where we had to take pictures of woman's cervix cancer to improve Colposcopy for medics (not the pap smear). These all exceptions is what you call something as editorial instead of commercial since the purpose of the photo does not relies in the identity of the person. but i am no expert here. For Germany my suggestion is that maybe you should consult this law firm  https://zellerseyfert.com/en/image-law-photo-law.html

135
As far as i recall, In EU you can shoot people in city as long as is for editorial purposes. Same in all countries of EU agreement. I study this matter 10 years ago but things could change a bit. Anyway I did not see a single link in the site going directly to the Spanish law or European Commission site. Being brutally honest....its the minimum.

Anyway we don't need consent to do it but ethics is something that feels right, right?

In Spain don't forget to ask permission to take a quick photo of the thief that is robbing your car.  ;)

Hi,
Just recover this thread to update you people how things are going in terms of using AI human realistic 3d models. I found this on youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Exayvv6BkI) and it's pretty amazing what we can do already if we merge SSGI plug in with https://generated.photos/faces in Blender 3d software.

I think in a year or two most this will start to be a common practice for at least commercial photos.

137
Lina, I am sorry to ear your case. Probably you need to be in the same "page" as them.

Anyway just let you know that you can import psd files into Affinity and also convert to be open in photoshop.
There are tutorials around internet and youtube that can help you with that.

Oh! One other thing... Affinity is now 27,99/lifetime but you can try it for free too.
Maybe you can see if this can work for you.

I unsubscribe yesterday.
i had all apps but i was just using it for after effects. I find Davinci real better for editing.
But now I am going to try Fusion. it seems very good,  its free and it's more used here for commercials and movies.
I think there is no point of spending 36,89 a month when i can get better for free now.

starting cut somewhere.
love you too adobe :-)

Hi, Lets read this from other point of view, ok Matt?

Today Adobe Stock announced Pro Edition, a new plan for Creative Cloud for Teams and Enterprises...

1) which supplies UNLIMITED downloads from OUR WORK collection of photos, illustrations, and vectors.
2) Adobe TAKES 67% of the sale.

Adobe Stock DOESN'T DO ANYTHING besides giving us storage and cannot really justify why is taking 67% of it.

My remarks: I will never buy anything from Adobe until i can download UNLIMITED TIMES your software too.

Best regards

Have account on mintable, opensea and rarible. For mintable and opensea you don't need to pay gas upfront now. There is a lot of hype and to be honest i did not put on sale yet. Last year I just register and put some of my work for fun there but not available for sale.

I did not try the invitation yet for Superare, foundation or nifty gateway. the invitation process requires an interview video, website and/or a lot of social media accounts (more is better). I heard rumors that this last three takes a cut from your sale but i could not understand exactly how much.

For Stock Photo & Video Marketplace there is a site that is being build for NFT (Non-Fungible Tokens). It's not launched yet but you can joined the email list so you know when it will be launched. I know this from "photerloo" youtube channel 2/3 weeks ago... the site: https://www.uniquestock.io/

There is other one called https://www.unique.one/ where you can mint with different coins instead of Ethereum with BSC and xDAI. Never tried...

In my opinion nowadays it does not really pay shooting models for micro stock. I don't do that for at least 4-5 years...

If you read model release carefully It exposes the model to be used for a lot of undesirable things and you get paid to little for it. Sometimes cents...
People use the closest ones like family and friends to this but please don't forget that we should be the first one to protect them.

But to get the idea... An agency with a specific client work using an (simple person) model pays around 75-150 /day depending the media type (book cover, tv, magazines or web). This is an controlled environment. Both you and model know the purpose of the shoot and where will be exactly used. It can't be used for anything else.

NFT's are here since bitcoin and your work is already copyrighted by law.

I will sum this talk for you with 2 questions...
Are you an well known artist? Do you want to spend 60-80$ for gas to buy NFT's for your digital work?

If you respond yes to these questions than this can be for you and maybe you can win 1 million dollars like Beeple 3d artist did a couple months ago.
Otherwise continue creating work and do social media so one day it justifies to buy nft's to sell original copies of your work.
Beeple also did that for 10 years before buying an NFT last year.

143
Klod,
i don't know if this suits your will/needs but nowadays you have the option to token your work with an NFT (non-fungible token).

This means cryptoart.

Non-fungible token is a special type of cryptographic token which represents something unique; NFTs are thus not mutually interchangeable. This is in contrast to cryptocurrencies like bitcoin, and many network or utility tokens, that are fungible in nature. see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-fungible_token

Anyway If this interests you try maybe Rarible.com site.  Forget Superare or Christie's which are more for gallery works. I remind you that It's expensive to token your work and this measure not prevent copycats but only the actual exact image. See this Guy tutorial about this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rztmblQAmjI

Hope this info help you.

Pond5 / Re: Unusual rejection reason
« on: March 04, 2021, 08:39 »
Hi! this happened to me too in P5.

If you're resubmitting the same clip you will get the double detection. Double detection reads metadata of your file. So the workaround that i found was to render it again. That will create a new metadata ID for your clip and will be good to go.

When you edit your 8mm clip before submit to review you got at the end "curator note".
Just write there "Native format 8mm 4:3" and use some tags like 8mm, old film, archival in the description.
Sometimes It will pass but others not really. I suspect not all curators read the notes that I put in the clips.

Anyway after review simply send the reply with your justification in case of rejection. That worked for me.

In terms of sales it didn't match my expectations. But each case is one case... GL!

I do agree in Polite and be constructive even if it is bad feedback. And you always can use humor to point that out.
This reminds me of how two state figures used it in my country while one defined the government's work to fight COVID.
"your work looks like the fine flower of the rubble" - which is also a title from a book.

I am sorry... but who is Jon Oringer?
I thought it was Devil character in the movie Devil's advocate... ;D
