Dreamstime.com / Re: How shall I spend my remaining DT credits
« on: January 30, 2009, 07:03 »
Well, you can buy images you like :-)

Or you can spend credits on images of some newbies to support them and make them enthusiastic for some more work...

In the past, there have been some discussions regarding credit donations to charities and similar organizations, but I don't think this has been implemented.

Or you can keep them until you need them again :-)

Conclusion: Really!

My account has been deactivated, my blog posts deleted... I finally got what I wanted, though I wish I could agree with Albumo people in a bit more peaceful manner. It is sad that the only way to make them react is to cause trouble.

Update:

...Well, not really because there is nothing new. It seems the site is hibernating. I have replaced the titles and descriptions of all my 190 images there with a reference to DT - no reaction. My angry "no-communication" blog post is still up, another two angry contributors added their own posts - without any effect.

I wonder how long will it pay off to have the site running without any costs other than maintenance expenses (and hope it will be less than the six months - I really don't want to go there every single day for the next half a year just to delete images) - I cannot imagine any other reason why they would want to keep it up. Their reputation is worse than poor - it is so bad that they don't even post those optimistic "one-day-we-will-make-big-money" anywhere, because all those unhappy contributors would eat them alive...

If anybody knows how to leave the Albumo hell in any way other than deleting one image at a time, please share you knowledge because I bet there are many people out there who will be VERY HAPPY to know (including myself)...

Depends on the agency and the reason why I lost my patience with them. After one year in the microstock business I have decided to keep accounts only on 3 sites out of the original 12 (will attempt to go Exclusive at DT and keeping accounts at SS and FT just in case I want to quit the exclusivity one day).

At the moment, I am trying to have my Albumo account deleted, but so far without any success (greetings to sharpshot :-)...

BTW, for anyone deleting 1 a day while waiting for them to do something, delete the most recent uploads first if you have anything that didn't meet the 400 day requirement.

Good point, thanks :-)

I have also made a blog post with very open and quite angry complaints and critique. However, it seems they have not noticed yet :-)

Excellent, thanks for the tip!

I will try to send a few more emails directly, and if they don't respond, I will try one of the more desperate strategies implied...

Hi, guys,

have any of you tried to contact Albumo lately?

I have decided to go exclusive with another microstock company and wish to cancel my account with Albumo (and have all my files deleted), so I have sent my request several times over the last two weeks using their site form (three different departments). It doesnt seem to work though, because there have been no responses, no replies... Just big scary silence...

The last news in their "News" section is from June - they apologize for not answering emails due to some server problems. Its really strange...

Excellent idea, Seren!

I have been participating in NaNoWriMo for four years and I know that frenzy and crazy thing WORKS and IS fun, so I am happily joining SoFoBoMo as well...

My idea is to make a series of images that could work well together in a single story or in a series of interconnected stories (my next NaNoWriMo novel perhaps?). The good thing is I will be moving from the country to our capital city in about two weeks, so I hope to have a lot of places (i.e. settings) to explore and people (i.e. characters) to discover :-)

(I don't have any experience with using flickr as a contributor, so it may take some time before I appear on the discussion forum there, but I will definitely keep an eye on this thread to see whats new)

I like LO - they are nice and fun, but I have put them on my "stop" list as my sales there are worse than poor, and I prefer spending my time doing photography rather than commenting on other people's images. Moreover, the logic of the system mentioned above puzzles me - if I were a buyer, I would want to have the most relevant images rather than the most commented ones on the front page - particularly if it does not even matter what the comments are...

I will be more than happy to resume uploading at LO if my sales improve, but if the increase in sales is subject to the "comments" system, I am not very optimistic...

Of course a good camera doesn't make a good photographer. However, it definitely makes a SPOILED photographer (speaking from my own experience :-)

Cameras / Lenses / Re: The 1$ tripod replacement
« on: January 30, 2008, 10:40 »
I have heard about the "string" solution from several people already - they say it is not 100% as stable as a solid tripod, but it helps a lot. In this particular video, I mainly appreciate the nice details: the silky string sealed by fire and the ring at the end :-)

...I will definitely test it, because I prefer light and tiny (easy to carry) solutions to a heavy bag full of EVERY SINGLE piece of equipment...

BTW, FlemishDreams: thanks for the link :-)

The same things happening here...

(Three hours and 87646664 posts later: "Still down..." :) )

I wonder whether there will be any official statement. I have been with SS for a month now, and this is the first site-function problem I have seen...

Opted out at StockXpert and submitting downsized images on SS from now on.

...Not that it would make a big difference at the moment, as I am one of those beginners-amateurs with just a few images online.

However, I have got really enthusiastic about stock photograhy since I discovered the world of (micro)stock three months ago and plan to dedicate this year to studying and making stock photography and growing my portfolio both in terms of quality and quantity (with quitting my regular job at least for six months - I really MEANT IT when I mentioned being enthusiastic :-).

I have already got from the "hoooray" stage of submitting photographs "everywhere and to be sold under any conditions" to thinking a bit more about the fate of my images and my incomes. So, as the subscription-related comments posted above make sense to me, I have decided to join the list in spite of being basically at the start line - just to try to shape (though in just a microscopic scale :-) our microstock future...

Excellent!

Thanks :)

The subscription price is a bit high, but it looks like they provide quite useful information and services, so I will definitely consider it :-)

Ahem...

Not that I wouldn't want to lay my hands on THAT machine, but - frankly - I wouldn't really know how to put it to the best use...

I make my stock photos with Canon Digital Rebel XT (350D) with EF-S 60/2.8 at the moment, and I still feel this set is better in photography than myself :-) ...What I mean is: One day, I would like to reach such a level of excellence in photography that would make me WORTHY of Hasselblad  ;)
