Adobe Stock / Deleting free files on fotolia
« on: December 30, 2010, 15:50 »
So, I have a several files that I (oh so foolishly) donated to FT free section earlier this year.

Is there any precedent of having these files deleted from the account? I'd be happy to reimburse FT the 0.5 and possibly close the account if necessary.

Thanks!

Olga

Me too... looks like all their stylesheets  are gone or something, all I see is text/lists... wow! Bummer! I was just starting to think seriously about DT exclusivity :)

SO, as far as I understand there has not been an official response from IS on this... after the 90 plus pages on IS forum?

Still shocked...
My first though was "Darn, now all the exclusives are going to drop their exclusive status and flood other agencies"
Having sat on it for a while, my second though is "HAAH, AND THE BUYERS WILL FOLLOW TO OTHER AGENCIES AS WELL", which makes me feel better....

Well, I am happy to hear they are at least still paying occasionally. I closed my account in early May, had a payout requested back in... ohh... February? May be before that. They closed my account within a couple of days (so now I can't even log in at all), but still no payout. Huh.

I really don't know how they do it.

New Sites - General / Re: Magnetqueen - anyone heard of it? Legit?
« on: September 03, 2009, 17:58 »
They are from 123RF.  Same file numbers, same sizes and ELs.

Legal or not, we can never tell...  I wished all sites revealed their partners, and how can we trust partners anyway?  How secure are our files?  We can expect files to be safe in the big sites who have a name in the market, but what about these other sites?

Ahh, thanks! I found a few other 123rf affiliates, some with quite interesting domain names (there was something about zombies in one of them :). In any case, at least it's a 123rf affiliate... but I agree - we probably don't know some (if not a lot) of info. On the other hand, I am not sure how much traffic/earnings these sites are getting anyways.

New Sites - General / Magnetqueen - anyone heard of it? Legit?
« on: September 03, 2009, 16:33 »
Just found some of my images (and saw a lot of others I recognize from stock) on this site, available for sale/download. Is it an affiliate of one of established sites? Or what is it ? Anyone heard of it?

It might be legit, don't know - I just never heard of it, and couldn't find any info about any of its partners.

A lot of familiar images on there! Legit or not?

Photo Critique / Re: Do I need to adjust my monitor?
« on: June 27, 2009, 10:09 »
Hi Gaja,

Quite interesting, I think this image has potential - and it's quite easy to do some 'spring cleaning' even now. I am not sure it's a "low" color profile problem, it may be that the baby and the beach have about the same level of color intensity (I'd lighten up the beach and clean up all the twigs etc with a healing/cloning tool), I also see a somewhat yellow-ish ting in the entire image (I just calibrated my monitor a few days ago and based on the feedback I got, it's pretty accurate). I wonder if something like this'd get this image approved:

BTW, are you planning on shooting on an indoors platform or outdoors platform?

Definitely, outdoors. Luckily, there are a couple of great outdoors stations perfect for shooting!

Now, of course gotta explain to the model I'll get for this shoot that we might get chased away :)))

Read this:

http://www.wmata.com/about_metro/docs/UseRegulations.pdf

Thanks! I actually did read it before posting. It says you are basically okay as long as there is no equipment other than your camera (on-camera flash) invovled... BUT, what confused me is that they also mention "models". Well, I won't have any equiment, but I will have a model !

In any case,I just called wmata's media relations office and asked. The lady on the phone said I'm allowed to photograph as long as I don't have tripods, lights setup, etc. I did mention that I'll have "one model" for the shoot, and she didn't say I needed a permit or anything. Hmmm! Of course, what's going to stop metro security and officials on the day of the shoot from kicking us out? Guess I'll have to go out and try, and see what happens :)

36
Hi All,

I am trying to figure out if there are any specific guidelines about photography in places of public transportation. Basically, I am trying to set up a brief shoot involving one model (oh, 20-30min), handheld camera w/flash in an outdoor subway station in the DC area and/or airport.

Can I do it or are there special permits etc that are probably required? Has anybody done a similar project and care to share your experience? I did some internet searching but haven't come up with any specifics.

Thanks for input!

It definitely is an interesting article.

Here is what I have gleaned from it:

- The article states that IS revenues have increased from $23 to $200 million (or about 9x) in the last 3 years.  I doubt that many contributors earnings have increased by the same amount over that period of time.  I wonder where all of that extra money is going?  Is it just being spread out to the crowd-sourced masses?  Or is it going into the IS profit coffers?  Either way it doesn't bode well for the contributor.

- IS reports that purchases for print are declining and purchases for web are increasing.  In other words, smaller sizes are being bought more and more.  Once again, this doesn't bode well for the contributor.

- The article mentions that the new Best Match is going live today.  I thought that it went live previously, but I could be wrong.

I wonder if the revenue increase is partly due to the video/audio collection? When was that launched?
I really wish IS was...eeeeh... a bit more user-friendly :) I only have a fraction of all my images there, but it's getting close to my top earners in revenues. Go figure.

Here: http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/06/24/microstock-photography-is-getting-big-istockphoto-projects-200-million-in-revenues/

Interestingly, IS and FT are viewed as "competitors" and other agencies are not mentioned.

« on: June 17, 2009, 11:07 »
Hmmm, interestingly, about 90% of my sales are all "for credit", I may be get one a day subscription. I was worried about seeing a rise in subscription DLs, but actually the opposite happened and my credit DLs have increased...

40
So this acquisition was basically eliminating a competition. They just took only distributing channels while they were not interested in another microsite.

Yep, this is probably the death kiss for StockXpert.

+1; 50% of my meager StockXpert earnings were from JUI and Photos. Now, really... what's going to happen? Some (like me, probably), will slow down or stop uploading to StockXpert, StockXpert will be making less revenue, will eventually tank. Boohoo. I like StockXpert a lot better than IS, by the way ... IS is an earner, but, boy... quite unfair on so many levels.

Anyone exclusive on DT? Care to share your experiences going/being exclusive on DT? I might consider doing it at some point down the road, thought I'd see how it's working out for others.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Shipping from Adorama
« on: May 19, 2009, 18:53 »
Just an update on my shipment - happy ending thanks to Helen and the Adorama crew.

Emailed Helen in the morning (by 8am); at 9.30 an Adorama representative called me to confirm that I wanted to pick up a shipment at the facility; by 1pm received a confirmation email from Adorama saying that an "incercept" request was filed with the UPS and we could pick up the package at our local ups office, which we did after a phone exchange with a UPS rep (I needed to have my husband pick up the order, not me - and it worked out fine, all he had to do was show his driver's license with the shipment address & a delivery slip).

Thanks, Adorama. Everything was done very fast, professionally and efficiently, solid customer service.

Think twice before giving up on them!

Adroma and B&H are the two most honest and reliable camera dealers in the USA. I have bought from both of them many times. Amazon once and once burned I will never buy from them again.

Now that you know the shipping requirements, work with them on a shipping address that will have someone home to sign for the delivery.

The requirements are for your (and their) protection against fraud.

My 2 cents.

-Larry

Well, I agree, adorama and bh are leaders. Unfortunately, they do not make their shipping policy explicit at checkout, as I said. Had they made it clear, I would have definitely made all the necessary adjustments. And, two, I don't see how one picking up her/his own package from a UPS facility with a tracking/order number can be fraudulent.

I usually have it sent to work. Just a thought.

Yeah, good idea!!... which didn't even occur to me! :) as this is the first time I'm running into this problem.

General Stock Discussion / Shipping from Adorama
« on: May 18, 2009, 19:51 »
Well, first time buyer from adorama. Loved that it works with paypal, competitive prices, easy search & ordering, backordered items shipped within 10 days. BUT, and this is the one thing that came out of nowhere and is really offputting to me at this point. Of course, I'll call them tomorrow, but chances are that I am also a last time buyer from adorama. Duh.

Story is: like many of us, I can't sit at home and wait 9-5 or even 10-2 to wait for the order to arrive. I work, my husband works, many of us have full-time jobs, yes. USUALLY, I just call usps or ups or whatever shipping company and tell them that I"ll pick the order from the facility after 5. But not with Adorama. With them, you HAVE to be at home to sign for the package, and you cannot pick it up from the facility. You know what, in my book, that's just terrible. So, now, I know that I will not be at home for the re-deliveries, and I know that the order will be shipped back... and I am pissed. And what's worse is that nowhere on the checkout page is there an explanation of this. I had to go to FAQ about shipping to verify that this is indeed their policy. Will call them tomorrow, but I don't think there's anything that can be done. Bummer. Lesson learned. Could've ordered from amazon for a few bucks more, gotten it faster (no backorder), and no hassle picking up from the facility after work.

Sorry, just a bit of ranting (with a bit of warning to potential adorama customers). Feel better now.... a little.

Duncan, thanks for following up - I appreciate it. I just logged to see my account (before checking in with the thread here)  and couldn't figure out where the $20 came from (very nice of CS to  do this, thanks). It would really be helpful if these things somehow reflected in the account, just to take the guessing out of CS stats.

Olga (Chasing Moments)

Well, I don't mind returns... but usually when there are returns (or there may be issues with the buyer's credit card or anything) - that's something that's reflected in my account on other sites. But not here... that's what seems quite strange to me.

49
Yup, as of this morning - not there any more. (no record of sale, no record of refund, nada) Were these fotosearch sales of 20-25 bucks just a trick to get photogs to start uploading again? And then they just take it off your account? :))) Anybody else experiencing anything similar? I sent a message to CS, will see what they say.

I started uploading to CS bit by bit after this sale. Well, now... bummer, CS.

Dreamstime.com / Re: I hate the DT new search engine !

Don't like the new search ... sales dropped dramatically past week.
Today only 2 sales.... with 6500 images online... and this is no april's fool.

Patrick H.

Same here... don't like the new search engine, significant sales drop. Am going back to my images to revamp some titles and keywords & see what happens.
