General Stock Discussion / Re: Wirestock - sales dried up
« on: Yesterday at 04:11 »
Hi

I have a 1.7k port and increasing with Wirestock that gets a few sales a month - had 0 sales in the past 3 weeks or so - totally dried up.

Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing a big drop in sales.

Thanks
C

Just thinking back to your original question. Wirestock sells nothing, they only manage and send images to the agencies. So in effect, if sales are down, the problem isn't Wirestock, it's the agencies?

Not that any of that will make you feel better or make more money, but Wirestock doesn't get downloads, they just distribute things.

Wirestock have recently started selling directly. Fixed prices $5 a pop for stills. Not sure how much for videos.

Thanks Alex.  Do you know what percentage of that contributors receive?

I can access it OK as a contributor including the forum which I read to depress me if I am too happy.

Thank you for this thread.

I got tired of physically liking all your comments OP, so just to say I like them and they made me smile.

I now have to go find these guidelines as I stopped SS sending me emails a long while ago.

Folk,
please publish here, when you got your first upfront sales from the second wave.
Last time no image was selected from mine, so I just want to know, if I still can hope or not.
Oh, yes: Best for me to know, if you goth that sales via Wirestock, which MIGHT take little bit longer (in case of so many and different artists) until Wirestock is ready to inform us?

Is Wirestock definitely included in this then?

Seems like that.
I asked wirestock after the first wave and they checked it for me: No sales to Adobe for me. All others in that similar time were instant pay for me from shutterstock.

Thank you.
Good to know.

I received word this morning that payments may not happen until tomorrow (Wednesday). There are a lot of moving parts with this process so your patience is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Mat Hayward

Thank you Mat for always showing respect for the contributors by communicating with us.

Far more than some companies do (mentioning no names) ...  ;)

and what I'm doing to get out of it  :)

Thanks Alex.  I love your blog and am glad you are doing so well with your articles.
You are a very good writer so I'm not surprised.
Maybe you need to write another book  :)

Where do agencies such as Stocksy, Getty proper and other curated agencies who are paying more than pennies fit into this picture?

It's very difficult to be accepted and then .. if you do manage to get in .. it's hard work once accepted to have your images approved and then .... you may be lucky enough to sell some.
If you do sell, you will be rewarded decently for your efforts.
The good thing I think about the curation is that only images that have a good chance of selling should be accepted.
At least these agencies are showing respect towards the image creators, which is a very big bonus in my eyes.
Micro sites from my experience completely lack respect with the front runner in not only lack of respect but actually completely ignoring the existence of the creators, being, you guessed it, Shittyshack.

Print on Demand Forum / Re: FineArtAmerica support email
« on: April 16, 2021, 13:03 »
Hey does anyone know a support email address for FAA?

I've been locked out of the site for a week or so now, and the reset password link never sends me an email (yep, checked junk). Have filled out their support form online, but no reply.

Really need an email address to write to them if anyone has one?

Thanks

I had both those issues with 2 sites I use and eventually I paid someone to sort it out.

Guess what?  It was Kaspersky (antivirus software) causing the problems.  The guy said that it causes a lot of issues like this. (The issues weren't there originally but occurred after an update from K).

I can now log into the one website and was able to receive the email from the other site in order to reset my password.

These problems disappeared as soon as Kaspersky was removed.

Thanks Alex.
Interesting and informative as always.
No surprise you are doing well as a writer.
All the best for your future ventures.
Thank you for your website.
It's really helpful. ✔

DEAR MAT, MY QUESTION TO YOU IS:

What costs do YOU calculate for this kind of content,
lets say a conceptual work with 3 to 10 models,
clothing, background and location?

thank you

I typically pay $50 per hour for models with a minimum of 2 hours per shoot. If they are very experienced and have a unique look I really want to work with, I'll pay up to $100 per hour. I have models bring their own wardrobe after asking me to send photos of options prior to the shoot. I've only paid for a location once, usually I work in places free to me. It's very rare for me to use more than 2 models on one shoot specific for stock that I am personally financing. I'm typically all-in for a cost of between $200-$300 for a formal stock shoot.

-Mat

How long will it take you recoup that money Mat (assuming you will) and go into profit?

It varies completely. Sometimes a couple of weeks, sometimes months, sometimes years. I can't think of a shoot that I haven't recovered my initial investment. I'm at a place in my portfolio where my archived content can fund new shoots which is nice. When you are first starting out, that's not as easy of course.

When I shoot specifically for stock as opposed to captured stock secondary to either a personal shoot or an editorial apssignment, I find consistent results that justify the expense.

-Mat

Thank you Mat. Much appreciated.

Seriously the noise rejection is very bad. The only website refuse my video. I use Davinci resolve with lot of setting to avoid that but sometime they refuse. Any idea what to do ?

Stop uploading to them.

Shutterstock just failed miserably. All the cool people left, leaving an army of bored Ukrainian housewives, taking snaps of their fluffy pets for a $0.1 reward.

That's officially what they are looking for  ;D

Nobody wants to celebrate him.  I see.  I would give him high five if I see him on a street.
Can people be banned from the forum for being boring?

19
So, everybody who posted on this thread so far, Put me on your ignore list already!!!!  I have already and won't respond to any of you garbage posters anymore.  Put me on ignore list on Shutterstock forum too because it'll be on very high pace.  I have a list of like 30 things to post there once I'm unleashed again.

Good something to look forward to.
Once you have ignored all the contributors on both forums you can just talk to yourself all day long.
You can also agree with yourself all day long. You will be happy then.
Ignorance is bliss.

Shutterstock.com / Re: Customer end "predicted quality"
« on: March 07, 2021, 05:12 »
Hopefully customers won't be using that as a search qualification.

Not as a search qualification (at least as long as it's not a selectable option in the search), but probably as a buying qualification.
Think about it: You want to buy a photo, you search for one you like and the site you want to buy it from says the "quality" was 6/10. Never mind that by "quality" they don't actually mean "technical quality", but some "visual appeal".  Would you buy the image? I know I would assume the image was of poor quality and had technical flaws like noise, soft focus or bad exposure and search for a suitable replacement with better "quality".  :(

If at least they would name it different. Calling it "quality" is really misleading.

Either way, I can't see this new feature. Apparently people say that it will show when you have your langauge set to English, but Shuterstock won't let me and always loads in German, no matter how often I select English.

It's not to do with selecting English.  My port is in English and I'm not seeing it yet.

21
I left Shutterstock.

I am curious, did you leave Shutterstock? Or am I misunderstanding your repetition,  Or am I misunderstanding your repetition,  Or am I misunderstanding your repetition,  Or am I misunderstanding your repetition,  Or am I misunderstanding your repetition,  Or am I misunderstanding your repetition,  Or am I misunderstanding your repetition,  Or am I misunderstanding your repetition,  Or am I misunderstanding your repetition.

He hasn't left.  He just suspended his port.

22
Can we expect your quantity of posts to decrease once your suspension is lifted on the SS forums? And how long have we got left to go... just out of interest?

Do you want that in seconds?  ::)

« on: March 05, 2021, 02:32 »
All those nobody stock contributors hate me.  LOL!!  Whatever.
They got nothing better than ridiculing people.  Useless posters.
They've never started a meaningful thread/conversation.  All they do is to come in and ridicule people.  And then I strike back, they get upset like a little punk.  LMAO!!  Weak.
I think you've got a bit of a persecution complex.  You aren't attacked or ridiculed on the Shutterstock forum or here.
You don't seem to like people voicing an opinion different to yours and you are quite often disparaging others who do stock for different reasons to you ('nobody contributors'.)
If you're not careful you will get yourself banned here too and then you will lose your voice completely.
You need to remember that you are 8 months too late in kicking up about the Shutterstock payment changes so you're not likely to get sympathy now.
If you had actually joined in the campaign 8 months ago you would have seen that this forum was strong in protest with lots of 'meaningful threads' , not 'weak', as you say.

Nowadays there are about 2800 Competitors with more than 14.000 files at shutterstock.

How do you know that figure?  I should think it is much higher than that?
