#No, I don't think that the older images will have much life, hence why I'm not so bothered to give them away for as little as $5.#

You meant also in case of older travel photos, photos from cities...

I totally agree, if these photos got uploaded already.

But I stopped uploading photos of travel genre when covid arrived and I hope(!), I will upload these old photos from 2020 soon and that they still have a chance to get sales.
Do you agree?

2020 was a strange year and anything captured then probably has value, perhaps not now but in 10-20 years' time as vintage.

I can see some of the Covid pics being used in 2030 on the 10-year anniversary and then 20-year anniversary and so on.

Even if they not directly related to Covid there may be something special about that particular strange year.

I'd still upload them now, they earn nothing from being in the HD and not on offer :)

Well, covid related travel photos I uploaded directly. I only stopped uploading not covid related photos and still waiting to upload them, because they are from countries, which now still in lockdown. The only agency I might upload already now or in the time of shot (2020) would be Alamy, because there - I guess - not the time of uploading is that important - especially if from places alamy does not have many. On Alamy that photos will find their way to the customer whenever searched for. But the other agencies I guess it is better to wait until that places of shots are open for tourists again.

Photo Critique / Re: What to do with these photos?
« on: August 03, 2021, 02:42 »
Why is there so much duplication? Many are virtually identical. My eyes glazed over looking at them.

Well, after I suddenly saw potential for sales in case for games and so on, I got grazy and tried with only 8 images or so following:
- Crop, so that it is easier to see for what it might be needed.
- rotate often in 4 ways: To see, how putting them together could have more perspectives of a way through the cave and easy to handle for composing a virtual room.
- changing the color from cream white or brown to golden.

Yes! I could just upload the main and original 8 photos instead and let them do the work on they own. They even know it better how to do. But I wanted to find out myself, how it works and now the customer has two options:
Buy only the original ones and safe money and do the work on his own. Or for lazy customer, who like the crops and rotated views can buy all they like. LOL

Hey, I know, it is a little bit grazy. And overwhelming indeed! - or glazed over :D
But I had fun with it and the only motivation was:
After viewing them in big size, I suddenly saw directly a buyer for them - Even the quality is for sure not good, I know! But not sharp backgrounds are also searched for elsewhere for many reasons. So why not these?  ;D

Photo Critique / What to do with these photos?
« on: August 02, 2021, 08:52 »
Hi,

it need long time until I uploaded these photos - now only on Pond5 available.

The reasons are/were:

1. Mostly not sharp photos. Who would buy it?
2. But after I saw these photos in big on my laptop AND watched each minimum 5 seconds, suddenly I saw a market for them! But am I right with it? Or does still 1. refuse all my ideas about it? Then I rotated that photos: and more and more I saw these photos could be attractive for this:

game backgrounds, which has different rooms in a fantasy world or a science fiction genre.

But I might be totally wrong with my idea.

What do you think?

And IF you think it could be saleable: WHERE on which agency I should offer them? Well, of course except shutterstock which AI review will never accept them, even if I upload them 1000 times. LOL
And Most other agencies will reject them for same reasons, just because not sharp, noise and so on.

I am curious to know your mind. Thx in advance!

* In real there are not many photos, but I cropped them, rotate them in any kind to show, what could be done with them.
** Photos were taken in a cave.

And here they are:

@Farbled:
Thank you for the information!

Forum? Do you also have a link to their forum, please?

And yes, I am not wondering, that wirestock goes that way. Just little bit faster than expected. I was already thinking/guessing about their prices and commissions. And yes, I am not wondering again about the details.
3,50 RPD for us - nothing against it and as expected more fair than other agencies if we see only the percentage of 30% for WS and 70% for us.

Automatically ALL images/videos are offered = full portfolio? Or only the ones which we signed for extra channels?

82
How does it work?
The agencies have different prices. Wirestock different again or follow one of the agencies in case of prices?
If I share my portfolio, they can see prices????
Any link to an information from wirestock about this?

83
And we all know, how customers use this novel use and Alamy only looking after for exclusive contributors.
mmh.....

Alamy.com / Re: Cleared balance missing
« on: July 27, 2021, 12:12 »
Alamy moved to another ship with new exciting 0,02 revenues. So they still have to find out how it works and how to calculate it.
YOUR case just shows that even the usual calculations getting confused for alamy itself either.
Does Alamy still know what it is doing?

85
I just got a 0,02$ commission out of 0,10$ distributor sale despite opting out of novel use this year. Alamy is treading dangerous waters

Wow! Really?
Even not respect and accept opt outs?
Really dangerous waters!

86
My instant photos for 3,83$/photo were from shutterstock.
Unfortunally they did not tell me about the other agencies (4,25 and 3,40).

General Stock Discussion / Re: Anyone on stockphoto.com??
« on: July 24, 2021, 03:15 »
Maybe these threads about this agency (the one in the SS forum about the same offer) might be of some help:

https://www.microstockgroup.com/new-sites-general/stockphoto-com-36170/
https://forums.submit.shutterstock.com/topic/102006-stockphoto/

Personally I think an Stock agency that is looking that desperately for contributors can't be doing too well and is probably not worth your time.
Also, my photos are also up there through Depositephotos and a contributor at the SS forum mentions that she got an invite from them a long time ago, but when they noticed that her images were there already through Depositephotos, the port was pulled again? It doesn't seem to make much sense to want contributors to sign up when they already have their ports through Depositephotso, but don't want their images in their database twice.

The only way, if at least sales there are okay, then we should upload to stockphoto.com first and afterwards to deposit and we would get more revenue instead of selling there via deposit. that was my plan for clipdealer, too instead of uploading first to 123RF. But we all know, why clipdealer is not worth it!

Same like agefoto first, then to alamy. Getting paid from agefoto and what agefoto does with our photos is also worst ever. but getting sales on agefotos via alamy might not making that problems if we upload directly to agefoto.

88
The free image wholesale offer (which I didn't sign up to) must be going really well as my sales have completely stopped.

If - like in my case - the worst photos go for free even they were able to select the better ones either, but not did, then I guess the competition does not matter that much.

89
Curius to know if anybody got that 5 $/image from Adobe uploaded via wirestock and how wirestock inform about it.
I got a few 4.25$ commissions last month, so these might be Adobe instant pay.
Got a few 3.4$ commissions this month, and I guess these are from Shutterstock.

It's only guessing, as these two are buying images for their free collection nowadays.
WireStock doesn't seem to report in which free collection the image ends up, so it might be Freepik as well.

Thx for the information!

I just got today some sales for 3,83$ - different again.
I am just curious to know from whom how much and will ask wirestock, who for sure will give clear answer, if they can. Then for the future we will know it better.
BTW: The photos I sold are my worst photos ever I took and just submit because the better ones were from the same shot, so it was easy for keywording. LOL

Yesterday I research and read everything about VecPHO, but I did not understand how it work, to much to generell and not detailed.
If I do not understand how it works, how could I get interested in it?
what are my PROs instead of uploading myself to all agencies?
Full excisting portfolio can follow it? strange! How it works.

I see only NICE words like in all these exciting news elsewhere, but no clear concepts.

Canva / Re: Bad experience with Canva

Extra Channel via Wirestock goes most to Canva. Are you upload to wirestock?

I am curious now and do not know if I should tell pond5 that I want just all uploaded media will be offered from me to the membership program or should I try out a few items first. But then which?
If you were to ask me, I would say : Of course, all of them.
I was thinking about SS when I made my decision. All media are offered there for individual purchases and membership purchases. And from experience with my photos, I know that very many buyers purchase via membership.
That's why I didn't hesitate to make all my media available for membership at Pond5.

may I ask you why you start now with a non exclusive portfolio? which media you want to offer there?
All the videos I create from now on.
I want to know how to sell to other agencies. That's why the new non-exclusive account with Pond5.

Non exclusive also for membership included?
Yes, of course. Also these media should be offered for membership.

Findura: Thx for your answers!

just a question??why a buyer should buy your clip at "regular" price if this clip has a stamp on it that says that it's included in the membership program??
i can understand put some clips(not best seller) in the membership program to have a side income but all the clips it's like to compete against your self...you can have even 2 payouts but if those don't make up for one it's useless...
[/quote]

You compete with yourself only in case of the buyers with membership. And then we have to think first, if we offer our best videos only regulary and others for membership.

All buyers who have no membership have to pay what you set yourself.

With other words: Most buyers WITH membership might never reach to your regular files. but MAYBE sometimes getting to your best regular set files, if you offer less good files in membership.

Especially in case of photos, where I chage my strategy dramaticly to: Upload EVERYWHERE and let the buyers decide, if they buy cheap on SS or high on Alamy. So, if I already offer them now everywhere, I think, I could offer ALL my photos via membership. If buyers searching for cheapest, they will find! but membership price on pond5 will be still higher than on SS, right?

And videos: Well, I just started with it and upload everything I had and just tried to record: Quality still like a beginner. So, I I guess, I will also not loose anything, if i offer them for membership price. I even never upload videos to SS or iStock, so also in this case, I would make more revenue via membership than via SS. Exclusive on pond5 with videos PLUS partner like Adobe, hey, in that way I offer my videos on the both most best agencies and just have to upload ones. If Adobe does not accept a big part of my beginner videos, I do not care and cannot see either.

My way now: Photos: Wirestock, (just for fun: Zoonar, photocase and eyeEm, sa long I do keywording myself.
Videos: pond5 + partner.
Thats it.

95
at the end STANDARD getting EXTENDED without any care on contributors! That is the future!
Alamy: They buy for PERSONAL use and use it different!
Everywhere now like that, right?
Etsy and all these free pic sites also: taking the best and sell for themself.
SS: does no care about thiefs.

And so on, and so on.

Great motivation to upload our best photos/videos, isnt it?

Who knows: Maybe Wirestock will get an agency with following licensing:
standard only in very small size - to small for prints and mugs.
big sizes only for extended.

???

I will be sending all this info to Adobe shortly via legal department and hopefully they can pursue and protect all the other contributor's artwork still available in that store.

Matt number 2?  :)

You can't lose anything by joining this program, you can only earn extra. All videos unlocked for membership are always available to non-members as well.

wrong....you can lose regular sales if your clips are available on the membership program which sell your clip at much lower price....

For artists who are non exclusive and offers the same videos/photos on SS and iStock, they would not loose.

Exclusive artist: well, maybe you both are right. But I am closer to Findura, because the buyers who have a membership want to safe money and will not care about your non membership files as long they could find a good enough one in the membership area. So, I guess, it will be increase revenue at least.

98
I've only been really active with Pond5 since the fall of 2020. Exclusive.
And since then I also always registered all my clips for membership. From less than 100 videos in fall 2020 to almost 4000 videos today.
Today all my videos in the Exclusiv portfolio are unlocked for membership.
Since a few days I start filling a new portfolio for non-exclusive videos.

The revenue for videos via membership sales is about the same for me as the regular revenue. But the total fluctuates a lot. Once it was double and once it was only a third of the amount for regular sales, usually a little less.

My portfolio grew, my regular income became more and my income via membership also became more.

I think it is a good thing to offer your media for membership, otherwise you would just be giving money away.
You can't lose anything by joining this program, you can only earn extra. All videos unlocked for membership are always available to non-members as well.

Unfortunately, subscription sales are not visible in the portfolio. But maybe that will come in the future. I didn't know the membership program was so new.
I ask every month by mail for my sold clips in the month before and then I get the item numbers. And what I have earned, I can only see by the payout. There is no more info, but you can actually live well with that.

Those who offer their media at SS know that there is especially much sold via membership. The income of many DL's via membership is only slightly lower than the income of a few DL's via 'On demand' 'Enhanced' and 'Single & Other'. But the two sums are almost identical.

It is similar with Pond5.

I knew about that membership thing, but was not interested in it in the past.
But now - after I changed my strategy and read your experiences - I am interested to try it out, too.
I asked pond5 about it and they told me, I should create a collection and then tell them that all medias in that collection will be offered from me for the membership program.
You (Findura) seem to registered ALL media right?
I am curious now and do not know if I should tell pond5 that I want just all uploaded media will be offered from me to the membership program or should I try out a few items first. But then which?
Should I offer good ones but not the best ones? So, the buyer might see the best one under similar medias and buy it instead of using the free one via membership? Does that happen often enough to get buyers to my membership media and then also to my usual offered media?

#Since a few days I start filling a new portfolio for non-exclusive videos.[Findura]#

may I ask you why you start now with a non exclusive portfolio? which media you want to offer there? In my eyes the exclusive including partner like Adobe is the best. Or do i miss something (a good alternative agency)?

Non exclusive also for membership included?

Just curious to know.

99
For me not caring about keywords in the near future and leave it by wirestock:

Adobe: Order of Keywords are totally not relevant ANYMORE, but nobody - including Matt - says that.

Alamy: If somebody search for an image and uses the keywords we put on the end (not marked as 10 most important keywords), the buyer can still find it!
It is only about the ctr. But does that really matter that much? Maybe if there are thousands images from other contributors competiting with my image.
If I leave it to wirestock, it MIGHT be they keyword not best and I might be better with it, but the keywords are still good enough to get found.
The last check of their keywording was bad in my eyes and I changed them and wirestock change them as I wanted asap! BUT: I also learned from these bad keywords, that I mostly were to explicite and exact instead of giving also general keywords. In my case: The images were from Phra Chedi Rai and YES it is a part from Wat Pho Buddhist temple in Bangkok. I used so many keywords that I forgot to include Wat Pho. Customers who just searching for Wat Pho might also interested in photos from Phra Chedi Rai which is a part of it. Even on Alamy Wat Pho should be included.
So at least: Yes, I like my keywords more, but it also shows that wirestock could be sometimes better.

It will still take a long time in Indonesia until we can talk about post covid unfortunally, but when we are ready to travel around again too, then I am pretty sure that wirestock got much better in keywording. So the photos from my future travels will be for sure just upload to wirestock without thinking about keywording anymore! Great!
Hopefully they got already the new keyworder they were already searching for.
In my opinion: wirestock is getting better and better. Could we say that about the (other) agencies?

AND: We do not have to follow the rules from each agency, which is often different. No confusions anymore. Upload and forget! Thats it! Easy!
And faster payout because no 100$ limit!
On alamy 36% instead of 20% on alamy itself, if you cannot reach the yearly 250 Pounds revenue limit.

100
What I like most about Wirestock is that in their Slack Group, which any contributor is free to join, you can directly ask the management questions and they will reply almost right away! Which other agency does this?!

That in itself, plus the in-house keywording of both commercial and now editorial images, is well worth the 15% commission they charge on sales!

absolutly right!
