Microstock News / Re: new site for finding keywords for photos
« on: January 05, 2009, 14:46 »
Hi everyone.

I have been using findphotokeywords.com from the first day it was announced here on the forum.

I'm very happy with it. It's a great tool. I have registered, and used it for the past couple of days intensively, with great satisfaction.
I think that all the new options are wonderful. For example, to be able to choose images from multiply sites in the same search is a great improvement.

I strongly believe that it dose improve my sales.

recommended.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Food for thoughts!!
« on: December 09, 2008, 17:53 »
hi

I do appreciate your knowledge and thoughts, but, I do try to stay optimistic (you have to in my country - Israel).

I believe that micro is different from traditional stock not only in the type of customers - AD agencies and businessman vs (also) blogers and students, but also in the way images are being used. Micro is mostly used for web rather than print for macro. I think that this market is still developing, blogs, web ads, web sites, 3red generation cell phones, education, will all keep growing and will use the microstock imagery.

Probably growth won't be as expected few month ego, but won't stop altogether.
Maybe, you guys (lagereek and AVAVA), won't earn as much as you were used to in macro, but I can be happy with even a fraction of that.

Good luck to you all

Hi Jonathan

I know exactly what are talking about. I have spent many hours under that black cloth with my Linhof Technika.
I always wanted an Hose Master, but had to settle for a simple flashlight/torch with a blue gelatin over it foe color temp correction.
I took many still life this way - darkness in the studio and me with that strong torch (4 AA batteries) "dancing" around the set illuminating my subject. I took many food images this way. I have put some 4x5 scans on my microstock porfolio, here are some examples:

hi Jonathan and Christian!

Why not buying a digital back for those big formats and use all the great optics and camera movements?

Hi Jonathan,

The shot list, the video, and all the info you give, makes one think that it is almost possible to become a high (maybe mid high) volume producer. Where is the catch? What else dose one needs to have, or do, to get there?

I want to be AVA (3/5 of AVAVA) when I grow up.

General Stock Discussion / Re: A day shooting Micro
« on: November 25, 2008, 14:50 »
WOW, Jonathan, thank you for sharing It's like being a fly on your wall.

I remember your shooting list (the "chumly" time) and wondered how you manage to shot 150 images on 8 hours shooting day - now I can literaly see.

 The images are great.

I still have some questions: How many shoot (on average) do  you shoot per selected image? And, what is your work flow? I suppose you edit - choose the right images, and you say you outsource them for key wording, but do you do all the PS editing by yourself? Do you assign them to an assistant? Why not out sourcing the PS work as well (if you don't)? How much time do you sped on PS editing if you do it?

Hope it's not too much asking.

Thanks
Noam

123RF / Re: Do you make $100/month at 123RF?
« on: November 23, 2008, 12:04 »
Hi Freedom

After around a year with 123rf and about 850 images I have passed the $100.
IMO They are going stronger. I fave my images, but have no clue if that helps.

good luck

Go to contributors.gettyimages.com and apply?

Thanks you

the info on getty's page is interesting, so what's the big deal about IS invitation?

Most of the macro won't talk to you if you have ever been on  a micro-stock. They feel that micro pricing degrades the value of the images.

if they accept IS exclusive contributor's micro stuff to their macro collections why not none exclusive's stuff?

hi AVAVA,

Can you (or any one else with macro stock knowledge) may give us a tip on how one (without IS exclusiveness) can approach the macro market and try to go up the ladder?

Thanks a lot

It seems that things have changed since than.
I saw Yuri's work in there.
