What I wonder is, why were the police/security to unprepared?
On Tuesday the Liar In Chief posted something like, "Watch out, Washington, we're coming for you" in a tweet encouraging his followers to turn out. The tweet was subsequently taken down, but it was up for at least an hour (there were nearly 400 comments on it by the time I saw it).
Surely someone should have been monitoring, from a pandemic pov as well as public order.

Yes, they were unprepared. It didnt go unnoticed. Comparisons were immediately made between yesterday and the Black Lives Matter protest.

It was also mentioned by one Sen. that advisors were telling Trump to call in the National Guard earlier in the day, and he kept refusing. Truth? Who knows, but sounds about right.

Latest meme going around: Its only a coup if its from the coup detat region of France. Otherwise its just sparkling white terrorism. Funny/not funny.

Yes I caught the buggers selling my photos on Alamy 6 months after I deleted my images off Yay

These shysters can't be trusted  >:(
That's rough!
Do you have the link to their Alamy portfolio so we can all check?

No fraid not you will have to go look.

I only found out when I started seeing two each of my photo submissions one under my own name and one under YAY

Also Zoonar did the same thing

That's not true. We always import the photos released by the photographer under the name of the photographer (unless a pseudonym status has been chosen by the photographer). You can see it here:

https://www.alamy.de/image-details-popup.asp?Imageid=687DAA48-23CF-4629-99F0-3DC8F9AE2099

We also send regular deletion lists to our partners. Every photographer at Zoonar can share all or individual photos with partners. Each partner is freely selectable.

We specialize in distributing photos to a partner network. German photographers, for example, import your photos, we then translate the titles and keywords and add categories.

Photographers from abroad often use Zoonar for Alamy because we add essential keywords (now called "supertags"). This is an immense work that the editors do for each photo individually. However, sales are much higher with these supertags. Therefore, many designers use our service.

This service is completely voluntary. Each partner can be activated individually at Zoonar, there is no compulsion. It is even possible to only share individual photos with certain partners.

If you are an official spokesperson for an agency, you should contact Leaf and get a "verified" stamp. Otherwise you look like a fellow contributor with a cartoon avatar.

Image Sleuth / Re: Selling POD stuff, are there any rules?

How can you tell if someone is selling POD stuff of your images legally or just stealing from you?

You cant. Assume every one of your images has been stolen, because they more than likely have.

The only way to know has already been mentioned. If you are selling at 5 sites, look on those 5 sites for an extended license sale. If you have none, then someone either bought a standard license and is using it illegally, or someone actually stole it and is using the image as their own.

Welcome to the wild, wild west of royalty-free.

If you are selling on many sites (more than 5), you have probably lost control of your property.

I have been selling images since 2004. I am down to one site now, Adobe, but I imagine my images are all over creation for free by now. No wonder sales suck.

I dont know much about it, but on TV shows I have seen bank robbers point a gadget at cameras and it makes a big white blob in the video. In essence, whiting everything out while they are up to no good. Maybe its that? Are they gearing up to rob you or what? Why are they doing all this, just for fun because they are jerks?

I had a feeling that microstock sites do sell some or many of our files without our knowledge

I think they sell images that way. I once happened upon my image in Good Housekeeping mag. Something I rarely read. Their circulation is in the hundreds of thousands. The credit line said my name and istock, so I knew where it came from. I looked, no extended license sale for that image. I contacted them and they made it right. But how many other images appear in places that require an extended license that contributors dont get paid for? It was pure luck that I found that one.

In 2013 Jeff was diagnosed with cancer. He left Ktools shortly after to spend time with his family. During this time I tried to bring on different people to help me but nothing worked out. Last month Jeff passed away from his cancer.

Oh, very sad.

I think the Warmpicture site was a KTools site. And I know my personal site was a Ktools too, for a while. And then it broke. Then came symbio. After that broke a couple of times, I moved to wordpress, but gave up on selling from my own site.

Hello guys, I registered to this forum today but I can't create new posts. Why?
Thanks

Until you make 5 posts (I think that's the number) your posts need approval. I just approved this one, there are a couple of other members who can approve. Leaf is trying to cut down on spam, so noobs need approval at first.

I'll ask again, didn't the coalition make some kind of deal with P5. Has anything else come up? I don't think the whole project just disappeared and evaporated. I honestly thought that for the people who joined, they might make some waves and change something? Maybe not on the big agencies, but potentially somewhere that's trying to grow and attract more artists?

The Stock Coalition made a deal with P5 and got a separate collection added for SC members. But no commission deals were made. I doubt that any of the sites will commit to any kind of financial deal. They want to be free to screw change contributors commissions whenever they like, make deals with clients, etc.

Yes, Warmpicture. It actually worked well site-wise, but it was the same problem as youve mentioned above with marketing. Hard to compete with the big dogs in searches. I even sold a few images. People helped where they could. But it still required money to run.

The Discord channel is not at an Adobe site. It's an independent site and requires an invitation to join. I'd love to see you all there. Thanks for the plug Dallas and Hudson thanks you for your compliment.

-Mat

Understood. But Adobe has an area there. I already signed up. Back when you invited everyone. 👍🙂 Yes, kinda confusing. Lots of neat areas, though. But not a forum like this one.

I know you old people value the forum format but, again, the AS discord is always popping. https://discord.gg/gsDXsrbcpf

Edit: Also. Mat, your dog is cuter than poop.

When I click your link, it has a referral-type message saying I was invited by you. What do you get out of signing people up? Why wouldnt the link just go to the adobe site?

Heres what you said that I replied to: I'm so glad I stopped uploading before their new plan. Mainly because of stupid rejections. Where does it say you deleted your videos?

And where does it say I didn't deleted my videos? I just said I was out of SS way before their new plan, mainly because of stupid rejections.

You stopped uploading, but you are ok still doing business with a company that appropriates assets, after accounts are closed? I dont get it.

On the other hand, you said I still doing business with SS even though you didn't know that. Well I'm obviously not. And I would never ever give my work, especially clips made with expensive drone for dollar or so. Also we wrote an article about that topic:

If you sell your videos on another site, say Shutterstock, and they are sold at a lower price, P5 sells for that price, no matter what you list them for at P5. If you only sell at P5, then the question might need to be asked from support. They also deeply discount whenever they want.

116
So sorry for your loss, Martha. Im glad he was at peace when he passed. Take care. ♥️

No, I'm not ok with that. I said I stopped uploading way before June 2020. After that all my videos were deleted.

I never understood the logic of sharing of how much you make. You only make yourself bait for those who would just love to break into your account.  :-X

There's money to be made talking about money :)

There's also money to be made from conning people.

Long time, no see.  :)
Glad to see some old members still around. I hope you are all fine in these tough days.

Wow, you havent been here in forever! Glad to see you. Still shooting? I came across your name the other day and wondered how you were.

I'd be suspicious of the YouTube guy, but I know people here will just decide SS is evil and condemn them.

SS IS evil, and yes, they should be condemned. But I agree theres more to the story. Clearly.

I thought that one of the main reasons the Stock Coalition was formed was to help stop the race to the bottom with contributor royalties. They have been unable to negotiate better commissions for coalition members. Maybe because there just arent enough members yet. And it is very likely all the heavy hitters have negotiated deals privately, I would assume with nondisclosures. So they dont need a coalition, therefore may not have joined. The coalition has made good strides in other areas, but bottom line the issue is money. I would be pleasantly surprised if they were able to break through the agencies greed.

General Stock Discussion / Re: PhotoShelter equivalent for video?!
« on: November 26, 2020, 11:23 »
Thanks cathyslife :-)

I'm already on Pond5. What I need is a self-hosted solution or platform like PhotoShelter, where I pay for template/website/hosting/storage space, where I can set my own price, and keep all income, rather than share it with some agency :-)

Sorry, misunderstood.

Pond5 lets you do that. But if you set your price on P5 at one price, but sell them lower somewhere else, P5 will change your price. They dont do well with images, though. I am only relaying what others say, I dont sell video.
