Thanks for the link to the pin.  However,  the issue is ads, not pins.

And Shutterstock ads, to boot! Just one final FU from them to you. FYI, I think JoAnn Snover has mentioned the same problem. They closed her account, but they are all too happy to keep using images in their ads.

it wasnt free, you had to upload 300 new images and have them approved, adobe made money on the back of that, and creating 300 images is a hell of a lot of work

you seem to have trouble with the meaning of simple words like 'free' and 'limit' etc
first, please stop the ad hominem attacks on Matt you made earlier

you seem to have trouble with simple words too!! - there was NO CHARGE for the  bonus -- there was an incentive for uploads and a reward was given.  commonly done for all sorts of transactions -'buy 2 get one free', 'earn 1000 pts for a reward',etc
you have a problem with reading, i never said there was a charge, I said the bonus wasnt free, which it wasnt

Its one of stocks monthly mysteries - how some people get their SS payout redirected at the appropriate time.....

Or why these crooks that are so smart to hack in and change things, don't understand payout dates. Artist was hacked on the 20th  :o

I am suddenly getting tons of spam emails and in between those emails I saw that my Shutterstock payout address has been changed.

I do not share my passwords with anyone.
The only third party Shutterstock login I used is Stock Submitter. Is this the culprit?

Is my email account also hacked?

This happens to people on a monthly basis on SS but as far as i can tell not other stock sites. (Search their forum for example).

Assume you are a criminal and you want to rob someone. Do you go to the candy store, 123RF or Crestock and search for accounts to hijack, or do you go to the biggest earning site with the most payouts? Think about that? Why do criminals try rob places with lots of cash and not places that have hardly anything in the cash register drawer? A bank or a Dollar store? Hmm, which one has more money?

SS is a target, an attraction, of course there will be more attempts to steal accounts there.

Nobody has ever got to the bottom of *HOW* it happens but people usually claim their SS password is unique and lots arent using third party submitters.  Shutterstock themselves claim theres no breach their end but who knows if thats true or not (they may not even be aware).

Are you using selective memory? SS has on the forums answered a number of times, they were aware of no hack. I know you're on the forum and you were back then. Every day. Artist said he used the same password on more than one site and he uses stock submitter.

Didn't you used to work support? Well I did, and the first thing I learned when people had a problem with software or a computer was, they would deny that they changed anything, when the truth was, they had. "Oh no I didn't do anything, it just stopped working." Then I'd find out, he added a second DVD drive the day before.  ::) Or someone would install an update or some conflicting software, and I could see that date, but they would say, nope I did nothing, it just stopped working.

So forgive me if someone (not anyone here or now or the OP) says, oh no I never used the same password, because I don't believe them.

It's easy to go with the public opinion, with no basis in fact, and blame SS for lying, being dogs or for having been hacked, but they won't admit it. Easy to pick on the agency that people hate, without any evidence that they are actually the cause. Just things like, it doesn't happen on other sites. Really? It doesn't?

What other agency forums do you read daily?

Youre spinning out.

A bit of advice that people keep repeating here and other forums, which gets neglected until, "Oh crap, someone hacked my account." Then blame the agency, which is really the cause, because you aren't practicing careful protection on your own.

Yes, the OP used his pw in multiple places. But yes, it was a hack at 123rf that likely caused the problem. In other words, an agencys fault.

I dont even know you, why would there be personal hatred? Shutterstocks been screwing contributors for awhile, they dont bother to get rid of thieves, they had a hole in their code awhile back allowing thieves to download high rez images. They cut royalties, and on Jan. 1, everybodys back at Level 1. If you continue to do business with them, I think you can expect more problems. Have you checked with Stock Submitter? Look at previous threads re: shutterstock, my comment is tame compared to what others say about Shutterstock.

Your work will continue to show up in various places for awhile. It takes time for stuff to disappear off the internet, if it ever does. Think of all the thieves that have stolen your work and are now reselling it, too.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: delete photo immediately
« on: November 20, 2020, 09:34 »
Several sites have restrictions on deletions in their contract.  They don't want to see the kind of hemorrhage iStock had a few years back, when they had a really stupid security breach, and hundreds of photographers deleted their portfolios.

I understand why they do it, but it takes away the right for contributors to manage their own business. It pays to read the contract. If a contributor isnt ok with them taking control of your assets, dont sell there. I doubt I would have even signed up if those were the terms way back when.

Been there. Changed password. Yesterday or the day before.
This morning another email, same text as before.
I'm guessing it's just a fouled up system and not that they have been hacked...again!

Yep, changed mine a couple days ago after first email. Got another email today. I only kept the account open because I was buying images for clients work. Dont need it anymore, dont contribute, will prolly just have them close it.

139
Congratulations! As a super Level 6 contributor, you will now earn a whopping 10 cents per image!

They should include that in the email.  >:(

140
You also need to check the contributors terms for each agency you want to upload that image to. As has been mentioned, some do not allow the use of public domain photos, or even composites containing them.

Here is terminology from Adobe: Generally, we do not accept Creative Commons Zero (CC0) or public domain content that is uploaded to the Adobe Stock site. Modified NASA images may be an exception, however. We can accept content that incorporates NASA public domain imagery if the content does not depict any NASA trademark or likeness of an astronaut or other persons and has been used to create a recognizably new visual work. For example, in the image above, a NASA image (1) was modified to create a new image (2) that is distinctly different from the original.

And there is more here: https://helpx.adobe.com/stock/contributor/help/terminology-and-importance-of-copyright.html

You just have to check each agency.

I finally got a response from Dreamstime. Still no luck but here is what they said.

Hello Chris,

We understand you want to request payment before reaching the $100 mark. We have been making a one time exception for active contributors during this difficult time. If you uploaded files in the last 30 days, you should write back and we will enable you to request payment.

Please note that we cannot lower the payment threshold as we have the largest number of contributors in stock photography, hence such adjustment would increase the logistics and slow down payments, making the process slower and more expensive for all contributors. Ultimately, a larger portfolio will bring you more sales and you will reach next payment sooner.

Best Regards,

So they pretend to do you a favor by saying they allow a one-time request during this difficult time, but then they take it away by adding a caveat. What difference does it make if youve uploaded in the last 30 days. You earned that money, and its a difficult time. Tossers.

I am pretty sure it's a partner of AS. There are many sites like this, I think they buy the proper license when they sell the product or something like that.

Yes, supposedly thats how it works. When an order is placed, they buy the license.

If you mean Amazon Prime, the problem is, they put all kinds of bait ads and popups, that mask the fact that by getting a free trial, or free shipping on this order, you just signed up for a years account. And my experience hasn't been as simple as click and it's gone. I had to contact Amazon, when the bill came through on my credit card and explain, I didn't want Prime. Valerie also had the same.

Maybe it's different where you live and only the German version is (or was) so trial-friendly then? Because I used that trial and after I signed up I could go to my account settings right away and just uncheck a "extend prime membership" (don't remember the exact woding) button and that was it. Not a single cent was taken from my account. I was actually impressed with how easy it was, because with every other free trial I hav ever seen, it was always made very difficult to get out of it, but this was really as simple as it could get. I don't know how it is now, maybe it was changed.

I had the same experience as you. I signed up a few years back, had it awhile, then cancelled. When I decided to subscribe again, I did so because it was so easy the first time around. I also had Hulu, and Id never subscribe to them again. I paid more money per month to get rid of ads, but there were still ads. I promptly unsubscribed.

As far as the topic of the OP, stolen content has always been on the sites. Thieves should be banned, period. They wont, and the thievery will continue.

Racism is the belief that groups of humans possess different behavioral traits corresponding to physical appearance and can be divided based on the superiority of one race over another. It may also mean prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against other people because they are of a different race or ethnicity. Modern variants of racism are often based in social perceptions of biological differences between peoples. These views can take the form of social actions, practices or beliefs, or political systems in which different races are ranked as inherently superior or inferior to each other, based on presumed shared inheritable traits, abilities, or qualities.

Racism [is] the idea that there is a direct correspondence between a group's values, behavior and attitudes, and its physical features [...] Racism is also a relatively new idea: its birth can be traced to the European colonization of much of the world, the rise and development of European capitalism, and the development of the European and US slave trade.

Usually you just have to wait a bit longer - if they have one season of a series in their free prime collection, the newer ones will be added to the free collection at some point too, but it can take a while. I can live with that.

Yes, I figured that might be the case. I can wait too. Theres more than enough programs to watch, between netflix, hulu, and prime. Im still hooked into 21 seasons of Silent Witness from the BBC.

As far as the Adobe free topic, I dont believe converting free customers into actual buyers works. But good luck to Adobe. Im with Shelma1, Id love free Adobe software, no strings attached like the free images are.

Chris has $42 in the account. For me, it would be an easy decision if it were just $3 or 5, but I can see your dilemma for $42. I think you are probably just going to be losing that money, unfortunately. As youve said, it will likely take you forever to make payout.

Restrict new users from Ukraine.

According to this logic, ebay or etsy should ban sellers from the USA because only this year I reported about a dozen users from the US selling my work without a proper license.
It should be judged on a case-by-case basis rather than based on the country you are living in. Agencies could do a much better job on checking/reacting, but since they are making money either way they don't care that much.

Just a point, since people are getting all up in arms. She said RESTRICT not ban.

I don't know why anyone here would defend image thieves, whether they are from (country name here) or anywhere else. SS does restrict some new users from some known hotbeds of thieves, fake accounts and where they are known for portfolios of entirely stolen images. Last I saw, it was 90 days before they can collect the first payout.

Someone else has said, agencies should do better ID checks. Funny how many times we've seen people complaining that the agency won't accept their ID or how the people don't want their private information in the hands of the agency. Darned if you do, darned if you don't?  ;)

Account Registration

You must be 18 years of age to create a Shutterstock account.

You may not sign up for an account with identification documents belonging to another individual, share an account with another individual, and/or share content with another Shutterstock contributor without prior consent from Shutterstock.

The Make payments to name in your account must be your full legal name as it appears on your identification documents; this is the name to which royalty payments will be made. For business accounts this field will contain the business name.

In order to make your Shutterstock account a business account, you must provide us with documentation as required by your country or state that indicates you are a principal owner of the business.

You may not open a second Shutterstock account without permission from Shutterstock.

You may not share the same online payment processing service account (like Payoneer, Paypal or Skrill) with another Shutterstock contributor.

If this is how they handle things, agencies should know precisely who is opening the account and who is responsible for the uploads. But some places, it's much easier to get a fake ID, or possibly some agencies just are trusting, until something goes wrong?

The word for blaming a whole country or population for what a minority of individuals do is stereotyping or a generalization, maybe a negative ethnic bias? Nothing to do with race.

Racism is not just about race, it can be against a ethnic group also. (because scientifically race is not even thing - we all belong to the human race - but that is a whole other discussion).
I still think it should be agencies responsibility instead of these discriminatory practices (call them whatever you want).

I agree!

Don't even start with Amazon Prime, free trial, that starts a subscription with, bait links and how that one traps people, over and over.  >:(

Huh? Adobe Prime is the most user-friendly easy-to-unsubscripe free trial I have ever come across. You just have to check a checkbox  and it will not be automatically prolonged. At least that's how it was 2 or 3 years ago.

Yes, Ive found that part to be true, too. But I am a little disgusted with them...I have started watching a couple of shows, get thru one season, Im hooked, then find out in order to watch more, you have to pay! I know why. Because they are, say, Showtime programs. So Prime gives you a preview, but they dont make it clear upfront. Who knew you had to check thru episodes and seasons to see if thats going to happen. I know now.

If I wanted to watch programs from Showtime, Id subscribe. I pay for a Prime subscription. When I login to Prime, I expect all the programs to be available for free under my subscription.

Sounds like one or more of the stock sites are employing the same kind of marketing. Im thinking of SS, where I read some say that after the free trial, they bill you even after you cancel.
