General Stock Discussion / Re: MSG shoot in South Africa

I would like to join in - August to October is Spring - early Summer in SA, so it would be a good time for nature photography.

I'm just over $2 short for BME at DT, so  I will probably make it. Yesterday was my best day ever at SS and this month is already my BME at SS. This is my worst month ever at iS. I don't check the other agencies regularly.

I somehow managed to avoid Attila for some time, had 100% accepted for the last couple of weeks.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Regular Upload Disabled
« on: March 18, 2009, 14:08 »
There's a thread about it on the DT forums.  It is only disabled for a couple of hours a day while they update the site so either use FTP or wait a couple of hours.

Couple hours = Approximately 2 hours.

Actually by my watch a couple of hours has been 4 hours and then 9 hours. Today is 3.5 hours so far.  ???

English is not my mother tongue, but I disagree with the meaning a couple. When used as an adjective, couple means two or more, but not many. Therefore couple of hours does not equal approximately two hours, but rather not many hours.

You are not alone! I take thousands of photos of youth sport photos every year, and what works for me is just the basic photos, no frills.

Atilla is actually working as a locum for reviewers. Whenever a reviewer at any agengy goes on leave, he gets Atilla to stand in for him. So you can get Atilla anywhere, anytime.

They seem to accept everything I upload, but sales are so low that its just not worth the effort.

« on: March 04, 2009, 11:11 »
I certainly don't have any intention of leaving DT.

110
LOL I think you knew you would get banned for that.

I don't post on FT forum, and I don't upload anything. What I have with FT I keep. I haven't visited their site for months, but one day when I really need money I'll request a pay out - I don't know how much I have with them, so who knows, perhaps I get a surprise. Just hope they don't go bancrupt at some stage.

« on: March 02, 2009, 23:30 »
It can be worth your while to resubmit. I have about an 80% acceptance rate at SS. Not so  long ago I made up a batch of previously refused images, and got an 80% acceptance rate on that batch as well. It has also happened to me that a reviewer rejects a photo and sends me a note to change something and resubmit.

Perhaps it will be worth your while looking at this tread on Outdoorphoto, a South African photographic website. This is a tread about stock photography. I see it has had 538 replies, so I didn't go though everything, but I'm sure there will be some tips.

I suggest you visit Forgiss' home page http://www.shoots.co.za
There is also the young Hougaard Malan among the South African photographers doing extremely well in microstock with his landscapes, and if I'm not mistaken he is exclusive to iS at the moment: http://www.hougaardmalan.com

« on: February 20, 2009, 03:44 »
A lot of people ar quitting Dreastime..did you know that ? apparently the company has to deal with many internal conflicts..why do you still submitt ?

The question wasn't put to me, I will give an answer anyway. Before that, who are the lot of people quitting DT - Contibuters or buyers? Why are they quitting? If they are buyers, it doesn't have any effect on me, because this is my best month ever, its only the 20th and I'm at my second best month ever +50%. If contributors are quitting, good for me, less competition.
The reason why I'm still contributing:
1   DT is my no 1 earner: at this stage more than SS and iS combined.
2.  As far as I'm concerned the friendliest site with the most helpfull staff.
3.  I have an acceptance rate well over 90%, beaten only by Yay (and that doesn't count).

Dreamstime.com / Re: Am I Starting To Keyword Spam?
« on: February 20, 2009, 03:32 »
Well, I'll have to count myself as a keyword spammer as well - I got the result of my latest batch at SS this morning - about half rejected with the reason "Keywords--Your keywords must directly relate to the image (relevancy). Please edit your keyword choices and resubmit." I've never had any problem with keywords before.

I'm all against keyword spamming, but I think I'm rather careful when choosing keywords. I do my best to use keyword I think a potential buyer looking for my images will be using. Strange aspect - for the images accepted in this very same batch, I used the same keywords as for the rejects.

General - Top Sites / Re: Big 4?
« on: February 12, 2009, 06:31 »
Well, I'm glad to see others still have a big 4 - I'm basically down to the big 2, for me DT and about 10% behind SS is running for second place for February. This is the firts time for me that SS is not in first place at any given time of the month. IS is really not doing good for me at the moment, and I've stopped uploading to the other sites.

« on: February 03, 2009, 04:14 »
Ok i'm In!!! I made 10/10 it was my 4th attempt!

and i made already 6 sales in my first day? Is it normal? 5 subscription 1 on demand...

It is normal, but unfortunately it doesn't last long. I made 18 sales on day 2, but soon realised that you have to keep feeding the beast.

He even has his own photo as avatar!  At least the Microsoft background is not there. Perhaps everyone should just have a look at his portfolio and make sure he hasn't uploaded any of your images.

.... after all he makes a seven figure amount (in US$) from microstock annually.

Really? How do you know this? Everywhere that you can actually see his sales suggests he's making mid-five figure amounts at most. He'd have to be at Yuri's level to be doing 7 figures.

I heard it from Forgiss, and I trust him to tell the truth.

Maybe it is $12345.67.  :)

Fred, please accept my humble apologies - I typed seven figures in my original post, it was a mistake, should be six figures. When I wanted to rectify it (immidiately) I pressed the quote button in stead of the modify button. So it is six figures - $100000.  All my mistake, and I accept full responsibility.

Some of the images can be seen on DT where it was accepted. That Forgiss knows what sells can certainly not be disputed, after all he makes a six figure amount (in US$) from microstock annually.
