« on: January 20, 2009, 11:13 »
Some of the images can be seen on DT where it was accepted. That Forgiss knows what sells can certainly not be disputed, after all he makes a seven figure amount (in US$) from microstock annually.

I suddenly had a rejection explotion with my latest batch, all but one rejected, and for the same reason: "Please remove location information in title. This is not necessary for stock images."

Well, perhaps not neccessary, but not allowed, especially with travel photos? Then SS must realise they don't use my title, they take the description as a title.

Perhaps it is not correct to measure it on the number of rejections, it should rather be unwarrented rejections. I upload a bath of 10 every Sunday to get a review on Monday, and for the past couple of weeks I've had an 80% acceptance rate, in itself not bad.
But: The two photos rejected today: One for overuse of noise reduction software: I didn't use any.
Second one: Lack of composition, and I believe the reviewer was wrong with that as well.

I uploaded a batch on Sunday, reviewed on Monday with 80 accepted. Normal for me.

Newbie Discussion / Re: Flickr

I uploaded a photo on Flickr after it was rejected by all microstock agencies. Within 3 days I was contacted by a news agency, asking to buy it. So I sold the photo after all.

It is definitely getting more difficult to get photos accepted, and the photos that get accepted must compete against more other similar images than ever.

This month I've had a record of 11 rejections at DT, out of 60 uploaded. My first month of double figure rejections ever, and one of the worst ever in terms of acceptance percentage. Compare that to October 2 rejections out of 84 uploads.

I do not expectit to become any easier.

General - Top Sites / Re: Fastest review times among the "Big 6"
« on: December 29, 2008, 15:14 »
I send 5 photos to SS today, when I checked 1 hour later they were reviewed - I don't know the real time span before review.  Some weeks ago DT were superfast, sometimes 45 minutes between submitting and review, but they have slowed down considerably.

I coun't help to feel like a fool working for my money when I read Dgool's post on the SS forum. Actually selling the Microsoft desktop background with the yellow tillups on microstock, and claiming to make many times more than I dream of!

I uploaded 6 photos to SS today, and when I signed in about 3 hours later 5 accepted. Fortunately I was away the first half of this month so this was my first upload in 3 weeks - so I missed Atilla.

Featurepics.com / Re: Anyone selling at Featurepics?
« on: December 22, 2008, 12:36 »
I haven't sold anything at FP for months now. The only agencies where I'm getting decent sales are SS and DD. IS has also come to an almost full stop for me. I'm seriously considering going exclusive with DT. The only thing stopping me at this stage is the fact that I'm making more money with SS, but to do that I have to keep on uploading and I fear I may just run out of new photos to upload some day.

I'm not a major contributor at FT, and stopped uploading months ago. I just logged in at FT, the first time in quite a while. There was a time when I thought FT would become one of my top sites, but alas that has not happened. So this issue convinced me to close my account with them.

I just got an acceptance note for a photo submitted on 18 November.

I uploaded yesterday, and their system couln't retrieve my ITCP data. Perhaps that had to be fixed.

Yaymicro / Yaymicro standards
« on: November 26, 2008, 02:42 »
Are the Yaymicro inspectors raising the standars? I've had a rejection there, so my acceptance rate is now 99.somethingsomething%. And not just any rejection, the same photo was accepted by Shutterstock, Dreamstime, Istock, Fotolia, StockXpert, 123RF, Bigstock and Crestock. Reason given was "Blurry/unfocused".

ha ha ... being one of the few people around who has never seen snow, i find this interesting. Now, if you want to know about heat ...

I've also never seen slow. . . often wonder when is it to hot to take out the camera! Went to the Kalahari desert recently. In Dec the ground temp reaches 70 Celsius (I believe 158 Fahrenheit) but when I was there they had a cold front (fortunately).

Congrats to all the newcomers at SS.

Feeding the beast . . . after more than a year at SS I'm still not sure how to do it. At the moment I'm uploading 5 about every second day to see if it keep things going, and I get a pattern: Every second batch I get 5/5 accepted, and every batch in between 3/5. Must be coincidence.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Whats up with DT?

All indications are that this will be a BME for me - need only about $3 to get there!

147
Don't forget that the different reviewers at the same site may also differ drasticly when it comes to accepting or rejecting a photo. With my first attempt at Shutterstock I had 10 out of 10 rejected, second attempt 30 days later 10 out of 10 accepted. Could I have learned that much in 30 days? I don't think so. My acceptance rate at Dreamstime is 91% after hundreds of submissions and I think I know what it good enough, and what sells and what not. Today I found two thirds of my last submission to Dreamstime rejected with the "this is not quite what we're looking for" reason. My explanation for that: Not the reviewer's personal taste, the next one would have approved it all. I don't get angry or fustrated, its all part of the game.

What I do at this stage: just make sure everything is in focus, make sure there is no noise, and chances are good every agency will accept the photo.

Sales on voting day were normal for me, but was very slow the day after that. Perhaps Americans celebrating?

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Can inspections become more inane?
« on: October 15, 2008, 05:57 »
I used to a lot of those over-filtered rejection, with photos not filtered at all. At this stage I have a standard noise reduction setting I put each and every photo though in Photoshop. I haven't had a single rejection for over filtering since I started filtering the photos!
