Dreamstime.com / Re: More than usual rejections from Dreamtime
« on: January 04, 2010, 12:50 »
I just got the result of my latest bach, with 66% rejected! I've never experienced anything like that at DT, most of the time my batched are 100% approved. All rejections except one is for composition. Perhaps Mr Hun is working there for the holidays.

It looks as if we will have to re-uplode everything. I'm waiting for an announcement by DT that the problem is solved before I will try again.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Sales at Dreamstime

I just logged in at DT and noticed a significant rise in the number of views. I also had more sales than usual in the last 3 days.

I think the problem lies with post processing. I'm sending you a message on flicr

It happened to me once: My very first submission to Shutterstock!

I'm 6'4" so I better be extra careful.

Crestock.com / Re: Guess nobody's uploading to Crestock
« on: July 10, 2009, 09:52 »
When (if) they get reviewers with just a bit of an idea what they are doing, I will consider uploading there again. In the meantime I sell three of four photos a month, so in 100 years I may just get enough for a payout. As long as they keep the most incompetent reviewers in the history of photography, I'll stay clear.

I sell at SS. iS, DT, StockXpert, Fot, 123R, BS, CS and FP.

I also have portfolios at Yay, Albumo and Mostphotos, but I see the topic is where do I sell, and I have never sold anything at the last three, I just have some photos there.

Off Topic / Re: Do you need glasses? I got mine CHEAP!
« on: June 26, 2009, 04:19 »
The glasses industry is one of the most unreal i actually know. Seriously 500$ for a piece of plastic and glass... who's also plastic actually lol. You can buy a pair for 20$ at the drug stores.

Also I can't believe that all those doctors who have achieved doctorate studies, who are supposed to make the science going further, were unable to make any improvement since a 100 years. What they was wearing in 1900... Glasses.

Most of optometrist are against laser correction. They know they will stop selling glasses. Glad we found a way to have them cheaper

I've thought about getting laser correction done.  I only know 1 person who got it done here in Winnipeg.  She had to be like 3 feet from the 42" tv to see it properly. :(  Besides me being a chicken, I have heard very few people that get it done actually have 100% improvement.  And if I still need even weak glasses after the treatment, it would be a waste.  The price of glasses doesn't really increase with the decrease of your vision.  I do wish there was a sure fire treatment though.  Glasses suck.  (and so do contacts, just in a different way)
I also know someone who did correction with laser. She also had a perfect vision after this. But now a couple years later she started to need glasses again. But one thing is sure, If she haven't had the operation, she would have a very bad vision today and glasses would not helped at all the situation.

I've had laser correction done in 1998. I had 100% vision after that, and still don't need glasses after 11 years. I will certainly do it again if I need to go back to wearing glasses.

My sales remain the same.

Mostphotos.com / Re: Canceled MostPhotos
« on: June 15, 2009, 03:04 »
I have no idea what is my ranking there, I never checked it.  I must have about 50 images there.  Got one single sale recently.  The positive side is that this one singe sale already allows a payout, so I'm leaving my stuff there, but due to mine and other people's poor sales record, I haven't uploaded anything there in ages.

The same goes for me. I don't know how many photos I have in my portfolio, but I think less than 100. I don't know what my rating is, and I don't know if anybody ever rates my photos or even look at it. I check for sales about once in two month, and except for that I do nothing.

All my sales at CS are subs. I should rather say were, because I decided just today CS is a waste of time.

General Stock Discussion / Re: May 2009 earnings breakdown
« on: June 02, 2009, 11:54 »
This is the second month in a row that DT beat SS, this month DT made more than 50% more than DT. All agencies except DT sold less than usual. At DT I needed 35 cent for a BME.

I just love my own work. If I wasn't me I would have bought everything I have. ;D

Off Topic / Re: How Long Is Your Commute To Work?
« on: May 22, 2009, 11:16 »
Two and a half hours.  :'(

92
My sales are not bad, I'm heading for a definate BME on DT. Yet when I put in a keyword and do a search my photos are nowhere to be seen. About 3 months ago I used a keyword for a search, set the page to 80 items, and got 38 of my photos on page one. I tried it again just now with the same keyword and got my first photo on page three.

93
Fact is, almost everything is well covered by now. To reject images because the subject is well covered is not far from saying we don't accept new contributions, because we have everything we need.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Mid-month catastrophy
« on: May 17, 2009, 00:51 »
For me sales are very low this month, with the exception of DT where I'm $2.50 short of my BME. My DT earning for the month are more than double that of SS, and it looks like for the first time DT will outsell SS this month.

95
Where I could bargain on one or two rejection for every 100 submissions, I sit with a 40% acceptance rate for this month, every rejection the same reason: "This is a very well covered subject in our data base or the subject of your image is too specific etc." A search reveals that the subject is not that well covered at all. I think the problem lies with new inexperienced reviewers, so I decided to stop uploading at DT for a while, at least until the problem is solved. I try to keep my acceptance rate above 90% and with the current rejections I will soon be trying to stay above 80%.

With the increase of the upload limit my acceptance rate has dropped dramatically. Where I could bargain on one or two rejection for every 100 submissions, I sit with a 40% acceptance rate for this month, every rejection the same reason: "This is a very well covered subject in our data base or the subject of your image is too specific." A search reveals that the subject is not that well covered at all. I think the problem lies with new inexperienced reviewers, so I decided to stop uploading at DT for a while.

General Photography Discussion / Re: Importance of Tripod
« on: April 15, 2009, 07:05 »
I hear again and again how important it is to use a tripod and cablerelease.  Ofcourse when youre using slower shutters.  But  lets say I shoot a landscape with a wideangle in full daylight ( it happens :) ) and use S 800/f6.4 for example.  The dof is biiig.  and how much can I shake during that short amount of time?

Teach me please?

I'll use a tripod never the less. Perhaps you wouldn't see the difference nine out of ten times, but then what about the one out of ten? The other day I was on my way to a function to take photos, using a 50mm f1.8, so I would certainly not be using slow shutter speeds. I stopped halfway and found that I forgot my tripod - so I went to the nearest shop and bought one.

I can't speak on his behalf, but I wonder if someone like Hougaard Malan, who I regard as a master of landscapes, will ever take a landscape without a tripod. Is Hougaard perhaps a member here?

« on: March 30, 2009, 23:20 »
I need just $1.49 for a BME at DT. I have just checked the new search engine, and with the view set at relevancy, 80 photos per page, I put in a keyword and got 25 photos on page 1. I certainly can't complain.
