I used to spend a weekend uploading, keyboarding etc but with Stocksubmitter it takes an hour max! Mainly as you can copy your keywords from any previously uploaded photo.....

As I only started 4 years ago I haven't suffered like most, my monthly earning grow $100 a month each year, currently around $450 a month and I only spend 3 hrs a week doing this, uploading 25 photos a week, no more and never any less. 3hrs work for over $100 isn't too bad.

Ive used Affinity Photo ever since Adobe started the subscription plan for photoshop and I find it does everything photoshop does for what I require and much much more. I don't like it for RAW, for that I used Iridient Developer.

Shutterstock just failed miserably. All the cool people left, leaving an army of bored Ukrainian housewives, taking snaps of their fluffy pets for a $0.1 reward.

Hey,
Thanks for all the replies, it seemed to have snowballed! Sorry I should of said I am in the UK (Scotland), so yes pay 41% tax on my main job income.
I believe sole trader is the way to go for my circumstance, I didn't realise the cost of a limited company.
Easy for me to say as I have never done it but after watching a YouTube video on how to fill out a UK self assessment tax form it appears quick and easy.
Next tax year I estimate earnings of 4.5k to 5k from stock photography (can't believe I have gone from. a fine art photographer to someone who takes photos of road signs!) and as most of my work is done from driving about all weekend I plan to offset the taxable earnings by around half with car expenses (using the set rate of 45p / mile), broadband contract monthly fee and mobile phone monthly fee.
Anyway after my 3rd year my earnings shot up so now is the time to start doing the right thing. If anyway else does this as a second job from their main job, I assume after your self assessment you can just pay it off in one go and it has no affect on your main income PAYE tax code and it is kept separate all together?

I was wondering what people in similar situation to myself do in terms of declaring tax if they are doing this as a second job to their main job which you pay 40% tax on your salary.
Whether you just do an online self assessment as a sole trader or have set up a limited company and pay an accountant to do your return and only pay the 19% tax?
From what I have read online a limited company involves a bit of paperwork only an accountant can do which you would have to pay for but on the flip side you only pay 19% tax as opposed to a sole trader I would have to pay 40% due to my main income salary of my main job (loosing 40% of such a small side income would be very painful!). Thanks, appreciate any replies.

Jan 2020 - $125 / 135 sales
Jan 2021 - $76 / 222 sales
Plus if doing this as a side hustle to a decent paid main job in the UK, you loss 40% of that to the taxman lol

I don't understand why peoples total month earnings are down from 1 year ago unless they just have the same image quantity as a year ago. I only upload 25 images a week but am $100 up this month from a year ago and only submit to the 5 main agencies. As long as I keep adding photos my earning increase. iStock non exclusive giving me double of Adobe and Shutterstock.

Is it not a bit early for comparing last January when we are still in January? Im simliar with Dreamtime though, quite a few $4 sales and $1 dollars.....quite unlike them! Non-exclusive iStock still brings me in more money than any of the other top agencies.

Not for me it doesnt....non-exclusive iStock always pays me the most out of the big 5 (same amount of images on each)

I'll try entering the last 4 digits of my phone number if it happens again, I now have a critical error so have deactivated Adobe and will re-activate later today to try sort it. In meantime I will just upload manually.

Is anyone else experiencing upload issues to Adobe Stock via Microstock Plus? Basically on upload a pop up box says enter code from email or text message to continue upload but no email or text message has been received (in any inbox, junk mail etc). Anyone know how to solve this issue? I've not seen this before.

On the plus side we can download the free images and if appropriate to your work, use part or all of the free image to form a composite new image and upload to sell back on Adobe etc

I. certainly don't have as large a library as yourselves but on a non-exclusive basis with 3500 images, istock always pays me more money than Adobe and of course now, shutterstock......or any other agency, unless I get that rare Alamy big sale.

The new royalty system is still much lower at level 4. I moved to level 4 fairly quick which gives 30% royalty, I think previously I was on 33% and used to get lots of 0.33 cents per sale but now at level 4 at 30% it is still like being at level 1 with lots of 0.10 cent sales, to be honest Ive had everything from 0.10, 0.11, 0.12 etc onwards

Yes thanks for the share - Your shutterstock portion is high above the other agencies, just shows differences between different photographers as I always get equal amounts from shutterstock, istock and Adobe at around $80 per agency (each have 3000 photos each), its fairly consistent for me.

I would certainly recommend a Mavic Pro 2 for still photography. The centre of the frame is about as sharp as you would get if taking a photo using a APSC sensor sized hand held camera. The edges are alot softer though but nothing that would stop an agency refusing the files, also keep the ISO low.
If you are stuck with making new imagines, along with having fun it makes sense to get one. I'd say aerial shots are in my top 3 categories of images sales.
Never taken one video with it, can just never find an emotional connection to video like I do with a still image, so have no interest in video.
I would say expect to probably send it back at least once for repair during the first 12 months which will probably cost around 300 and expect to download / change software versions a few times as sometimes updates have strange effects such as making sensors malfunction....
