Same here. I applied the day of the announcement and never heard back. As a courtesy, it would have been nice if they at least had acknowledged that they received my application. At this point, I don't even know if it went through. Not as professional as I had hoped.

Here's a portion of an email I got today:
On December 15, 2014, we will amend the Artists Supply Agreement (ASA) to change the Compensation section to reflect that you will no longer be required to request payments. The ASA amendment will be made available on the site for your review and acceptance at least 30 days in advance of any changes to the payment systems.
After the new ASA has taken effect (January 15, 2015), and once the ability to request payment has been removed (the last day to request payment will be January 21, 2015), account balances of $100 and over will be paid to contributors automatically on a monthly basis. Additionally, on January 31, 2015, your contributor agreement will be assigned by iStockphoto LP to Getty Images (US), Inc. All of the revised 2014 ASA terms will remain exactly the same except the agreement will be with Getty Images (US), Inc., not iStockphoto LP.

Nope! Here are five things the IRS wants you to know about phishing scams: The IRS doesnt ask for detailed personal and financial information like PIN numbers, passwords or similar secret access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. The IRS does not initiate taxpayer communications through e-mail and wont send a message about your tax account. If you receive an e-mail from someone claiming to be the IRS or directing you to an IRS site: Do not reply to the message. Do not open any attachments. Attachments may contain malicious code that will infect your computer. Do not click on any links. If you clicked on links in a suspicious e-mail or phishing website and entered confidential information, visit the IRS website and enter the search term 'identity theft' for more information and resources to help. The address of the official IRS website is http://www.irs.gov. Do not be confused or misled by sites claiming to be the IRS but ending in .com, .net, .org or other designations instead of .gov. If you discover a website that claims to be the IRS but you suspect it is bogus, do not provide any personal information on the suspicious site and report it to the IRS. If you receive a phone call, fax or letter in the mail from an individual claiming to be from the IRS but you suspect they are not an IRS employee, contact the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 to determine if the IRS has a legitimate need to contact you. Report any bogus correspondence. You can help shut down these schemes and prevent others from being victimized. Details on how to report specific types of scams and what to do if youve been victimized are available at http://www.irs.gov, keyword phishing.

November and December are my best months at Shutterstock, and this month is tracking that way. So far, I've had four Enhanced Downloads ($28 each), and three Single Downloads that averaged out to $73 each. Surprisingly, these high dollar downloads were not holiday themed, although a lot of my regular downloads are. I wish others were having as good a month.

Have you tried deleting the old info and re-entering it again?

PhotoShelters Image Theft Guard = a false sense of protection. We are not fooled!

I was opted in by default and changed it. According to the Lattice forum, the default is different for some but most were opted in by default, and it was a surprise.

I received an email with a posting of one of my photos unwatermarked. Grrr! I investigated and found this. from the Alamy forum: Photoshelter users be warned. They have introduced Lattice, a Pinterest type "service" with no watermark protection. You are opted in by default. If you use PhotoShelter and value you your images I suggest you login immediately and opt out. They don't make hugely obvious where to opt out, either. It's here: Under My account > Account Info > General Information, click Edit Info. Uncheck the last of 5 checkboxes ( Include images in Lattice).

Do away with keyword tiers! No other site makes us go through that. One set of keywords is all you need.

Well they seem to have my portfolio including images that were just accepted two weeks ago. They use my real name instead of my username, and not many sites do that. So, they are probably an affiliate of some other site. (Hopefully)

So what if they change the title and description around and you hate it? Can you change it back? iStock is notorious fixing things that aren't broke.

A Google search for "an adorable little boy and dog in the sand" shows the iStock image turning up 3rd in the images listed.

iS/Getty need to fix their weird search terms problem. The art director I'm working with has been complaining about it all week. She hates whatever they've done to "improve" the search there. She says it's harder to find what she needs. I see her going back every day and trying to figure out what phrases she needs to input to find what she's looking for. Which annoys me, because the longer it takes her to find images the less time she has to brainstorm with me.
I think that has more to do with Keywords, than Photo Description and SEO.

By "unique" I simply mean not copying and pasting a description that appears somewhere else on the internet.

I've read that unique and detailed descriptions are important to SEO. My question is what if your descriptions were poor on older submissions? Can going back and updating the Description field increase your SEO? Do you get a do over or does it only count when you first upload the photo?

Welcome Adrian! Nice portfolio. I see you are shooting some isolated products. That's what I do. You might try shooting at a deeper depth of field. My products are full focus front to back. As a buyer, I find it easier to drop a product into a scene when I have control over which parts of the stock photo I want blurred. You can't fake focus if it isn't there. I realize that selective focus is an artistic judgement call, on your part, and that might be just what the buyer is looking for, but you might try doing it both ways and see which sells best.
Good luck!

I would say that the best way to promote your portfolio is to build a self hosted site with a link to all your agency portfolios. Have a look to the model I have implemented on my site www.millionstock.com Have a nice time! Alex
How do you drive traffic to your site? That's always the magic question.

Some of you are forgetting that Clipping Paths are much sought after from buyers. It is very easy to soften a selection from a Clipping Path. It adds to the saleability.

« on: October 18, 2014, 16:48 »
I use the pen tool whenever possible and save the clipping path. If an edge is particularly gnarly, I use the quick selection tool, then add a layer mask. Next, I use the Mask Edge/Refine Mask. I set the edge Contrast to around 40, which gives me a pretty crisp edge. That allows me to cut in, or add to the mask with a hard edge brush. Once I get the mask just right, I use the Blur More filter on the mask to soften the edge. Works like a charm!
