Title: Is Scan Stock Still In Business?
Post by: Cricket on January 20, 2008, 14:07
Hey Everyone,

Anyone uploading to Scanstock?  I found in September that they were really slow about reviewing stuff.

Are they still in business?

If anyone has any info on this agency let me know.

Thanks,

Cricket

They're still in business, but sales there are slow. I don't upload there regularly (last did an update some time last year) but sales are still happening.

Given the Euro/dollar exchange rate, when I got a 50 euro payment (in October or November I think) I ended up with $75 which was nice.

I think that they draw from a different customer base from most of the other sites (the only credits I've found for my prior sales have been to scandinavian newspapers and magazines). So it seems that there's no harm in leaving a portfolio there and updating it periodically.

I'm not sure if I'd invest the time to upload if I hadn't already though...

Slow sales there, but it beats LO every month with same amount of images online :). Usually reviewing times are quite fast (same day to same week). Pays in euros which is also good.

I upload there because it really easy to and get quite regular sales sometimes a couple a day then nothing for a couple of days...I guess it averages out to be about 1 a day.

Not sure about the review times as it dosen't really impact on my sales, so the amount of time it takes to review the images is irrelevant.

I uploaded images there yesterday and they were quickly reviewed this time.

Sales are very scarce for me - 1-3 per month - but it's easy to upload and the EUR1 per image is a good number.  I don't regularly upload there, but I do sometimes.

I uploaded and got my pictures reviewed the next day.
I just had a payout there as well. Sales are slow but regular, and I like getting paid in Euro.

I'm halfway to my fourth payout. And I like the Euro.

I have slow, but very steady sales there. Uploading is the easiest anywhere, so I continue uploading.

I have 224 images there and my sales average 1-3 a month.  I think once it was said here that editorial images there sell well - is that what you guys with good performance see?  Or is it just that my peopleless photos don't fit their public's style?

Scanstock has increased a lot for me this year, more than 300%, and although it's still among the smaller ones, it's way in front of players like 123rf and Crestock.

However, something strange happened today. It looks like parts of their website is missing, including upload,  forums and the link to my sold images. is it only me, or have anybody else seen the same?

Same here, in February I sold a grand total of 8 photos there, outselling both Bigstock and Canstock  ::)

...and since we are talking Euros here, Scanstock made me more money than Bigstock and Canstock combined - go Scanstock, you rock - whooay  ;D

I don't think that part of the site is missing, they just redesigned it - V2 so to speak - after logging in there is a link called "Photographers" in the top menu from which you will find your sold pictures, uploadlist, etc - took me a while to find, too...

their photographers page says they are behind in reviewing (about to get worse :) but they are employing new reviewers so thats positive :)

Hmmm... reading this thread, I signed up around 11am CET, uploaded 20 shots at 1pm, and they are now (2pm) being accepted. The mails are pouring in. Maybe they give priority to new uploaders?

Current review time

There has been a significant increase in uploads recently and we have been busy preparing an upgrade of the site. Becuse of this the current review time has become too long. We will do our best in the comming weeks to improve the review time. We will also employ more image inspctors to match the current number of uploads.

Status 29. feb 2008: 4809 images waiting, oldest in queue from 30. jan 2008.

Scan stock are not a big earner for me but I tend to get an average of 1 download a day and it is so easy to upload to them its a bit of a no brainier.  As for the review times I dont really worry to much...they seem to be quite fast to me.

Reviews are slow, sales are slow too (still on my 1-3 dlds per month).

EUR$1 per image was a good thing when I started, but now that sites have increased their prices this is still good but not so appealing, given the low sales.

Was once there - but left.

I don't think I will be going back as my experience has shown me that my images don't fare well on Scandinavian sites.

I just discovered that they offer FTP-upload now, it has to be requested via e-mail, though. So all the sites I'm uploading to now support FTP - with the sad exception of IS, of course  ::)
