Shouldn't be in the ideal world (utopia) author's personal website always ranking much better in SERP (Search Engine Results Page) than any other website, such as stock agencies were he might be also showcasing his images online?!

I believe YES! Pity that search engines didn't see it this way too ... :-\

Actually, I am not sure why I am writing this here now.
It was simply the first thing that came to my mind when I woke up this morning. ::)

I believe that in ideal world there should be some authorize tool available on side of search engines, such as in Google's Webmaster tools, where author (photographer, illustrator, etc.) could authorize his personal website (his own online store) as main source where his works are available for sale.
After that his images showcased on his personal website should always rank much better in SERP than his images that are available at stock agencies or in any other online place.

Because he is author of those images, thus naturally his own personal website should be treated as the main, and the original source of his works!
Shouldn't it be this way?!

Agreed! It should be that way. But I am not going to wait for Google et al. implementing such feature.

I have a strong feeling you dreamt about Symbiostock. I started putting photos online on my site just 4 weeks ago. Many of them are all over the micros as well. Guess what: I already found a few of my pics on Google page 1 ahead of most agencies.

Follow your dreams?

Yes, actually I am strongly thinking about that for a long time. It would be good to setup my own direct selling channel for my images, be it either Symbiostock or completely new direct selling system I will write myself from scratch for purposes of my personal online store.
(I actually started to write my own direct selling system for my website, but it is faaar from finished.)

The biggest problem is that I cannot setup my online store unless find solution to TONs of bureaucratic problems that my own direct selling personal website could possibly bring me due crazy local, and EU legal/bureaucratic requirements. :-\
(But that is another story.)

I have noticed that many of my images on my SY site show higher than the agencies. I am hoping that it is the power of the SEO.

Yes, it may be power of your and SY SEO! You are lucky than. :)
Power of SY concept seems to be really strong!

But, just one side note when talking about this.
I dont want to disappoint you in anyway cclapper, but I hope that when you perform searches for positions of your pages in Google, that you dont have Google's personalized search results turned on at that time.

Remember that positions of content (websites) people see in SERP are usually based on their personal preferences.
Preferences internally collected by Google during people interacting with it.

There is nothing like fixed position in SERP of your (or anyone's) website!
Someone may see your website positioned higher, whereas some other person may see it positioned lower in SERP.
(Based on personalized search results Google serves to them.)

Important is overall performance, and weight of your website in eyes of search engine.
Here good webmaster's practices, SEO, and good on-site content can help greatly.
(But no fixed position exist. No position that appears same in SERP for everyone.)

No, personalized search not turned on...yes, i understand its a fluid thing. I wonder if Pilens understands that as well? And others who are reporting page 1 search results?

It doesn't seem to make a difference to my results whether I am logged in to Google or not - they don't show my stock site as "belonging" to me. They do have a marker against my blog site that registers that one to me, though.

I still get "number one" for my lonesome bengal cat!

To you steheap it may seem that you are on number 1 position, no matter whether you are logged in or not, but that doesnt mean that you are on number 1 position also for other people who are logged in under their Google accounts. This is it. They are served with their personalized search results.

I am of course happy for you that you are on number 1 position in SERP with lonesome bengal cat, that is great to hear! :)

All I wanted to note in reply to cclapper was, that there no real fixed positioning in SERP exist.
Thats all.

It isn't when you search on just Bengal Cat. How many would search using the word lonesome with bengal cat? Just wondering...

Here too. I notice mainly a difference in the ads i get served from Google whether I am logged in or not. Besides that, I have trouble seeing how google could possibly favor one 'bengal cat' before the other based on personal search characteristics. I can see, though, that google might want fool us into believing our SEO is working.  ;D

I think this game is all about getting those relatively rare searches. I come up number one with "Bengal cat licking lips" which you might search if you wanted an image for a pet food advert. I hope a stock buyer has something a bit more specific in mind than "bengal cat" when they do a google search, although I am on the first page for "bengal cat stock photo".

The chance of getting to number one on generic phrases is pretty low, but when someone has a real use in mind, those are the searches we need to "ace!"

right - if you enyter the titles of many images you'll place high, but tit's the generic terms we really need -- for me, 'moose walking' has been successful

the order of words in the search also makes a difference 'stock image moose walking' gives different results from 'moose walking stock image'

I wrote an article detailing this and other research at http://cascoly.hubpages.com/hub/How-to-use-Google-increase-HubPages-traffic-and-microstock-sales

Interesting that you added stock image to the searches. I have added "stock photo" to all the metadata of my descriptions. Any view on the difference between stock image and stock photo?

I studied what SS did and used Stock Photo as well. I also remember Dan at Warmpicture saying that SEO improved significantly when he added stock photo to the images.

I alter the permalink when I upload images to be "stock-photo-name-of-image.jpg" and added a pipe and Stock Photo after the image name on the image pages.

Not sure it helps but I read here that uploading stuff to your own site first helps in getting Google to index it before the agencies are indexed. But since it can take a month for Google to index an image, you'd need to wait a month before uploading to the agencies. Not sure I've got that kind of patience. :)

I think I may have searched for stock photo also and got similar results -- one point is that none of my pix themselves had 'stock image' as keywords or title or desc.

google will process within a day or 2 if you submit directly thru 'fetch' in webmaster tools.   and once you get image sitemap set up google checks that fairly frequently too.  I've been getting about 100 more pp added to google index each week lately

I still only after one month have 25 images indexed, out of 700. Thats not good. But I will wait a month anyway for adding new stuff to agencies, so the files can settle in.

As for the fetch option, I only have 500 fetches, is that number going to reset at some point? I mean, I have a thousand images. And do I need to fetch every link one by one?
