looked at the demo.. symbiostock is far better in my opinion..

a few more features like:

- download expiration
- extended licenses
- and dashboard, stats panels,

will make SY "the wordpress theme" for selling images..

I agree, the way Leo is developing it I feel it could be THE way forward for independent stock artists, we will be working separately but will benefit each other with the networking features which the above one does not seem to mention.  Maybe Sean and Andres are big enough not to need the benefit of others but it would be great if they joined us :)

It is a cool thing that people other than Leo are developing "stock" wordpress themes.  Competition drives development, and buyers will get used to the idea of searching out individual sites instead of just "the big guys"

I completely agree Glenn. Implementing Leo's theme has been on the back burner for me for over a month. I feel his is currently the better option, but I am absolutely thrilled that others are actively producing themes. It gives me hope for the future.

The networking features of Symbiostock are going to be a HUGE advantage over the others.

Not a single word about vector support. SY works fine with vectors.

Sounds pretty basic compared to Leo's but good on them. The more ways for us to sell direct the better.

I really like the search options. The visual appearance is also very nice. It looks professional. That's an area Leo has not yet focused on, leaving it to us to enhance the style ourselves. The advantage of SY is that its being built from within the industry from someone who knows the in's and out's.

one little difference that no one's mentioned so far is this theme costs at least $75 and that's for 1 yr of support or updates. Symbiostock of course, is free!

Bad timing.  I'm actually a GPP subscriber (for other sites), so I could get the theme at no extra charge.  I really like the theme.  Very slick and professional.  I've got too much time invested in Symbiostock to change, though.  Besides, I have a lot of confidence in the future developments from Leo.

From Leo and others hopefully :)  The greatest part about an open source project is that anyone can contribute (and should where we can!) tons of opportunities there, for sure.  It's good that there are other options I've been watching this one as well, but for now I'm more interested in the community aspect and network search of Symbiostock.

I just noticed this thread ... :D

Symbiostock will NEVER have competition. Symbiostock doesn't compete, period... :D

Actually I really like the classy look of that theme. I wish some nice strong CSS people could give the theme at present a nice make-over.

Is that a challenge? :D

Yeah, I suppose making such a request right under your post is pretty much an obvious call to action ;)

It might just be they don't want to spend 20 years uploading.

You can order prints with the graphpaper theme.  Which I would LOVE to see on SY.  (And would pay extra for it).   A place for clients to proof and place orders.  Password a private gallery.  Or a place to sell your own fine art prints or physical goods.

Hint.... hint... Leo

I had uploaded an early version of their sell media plugin and I found SY is much easier to work with.  Can't wait till July when I have some spare time to get back onto this project!

Leo, you may want to look at what Graphic Press don't seem to be concentrating on anymore - their partnership with Photoshelter. Photoshelter can be a bit pricy, but the power of their back end site is amazing. Finding a way to link with what you have would make your offering even more powerful.

Or better - getting them to develop a whole system for stock photographers which works like the interconnect rate between telcos. Photoshelter has the size and power to turn the whole stock business on its head . . . but I get the feeling they burnt their fingers with their last agency experiment.

WRT Photo Shelter - their best offering for stock photographers has nothing to do with selling images, but rather the sending of images to stock agencies directly from their server via FTP. I just upload to Photoshelter - use their excellent keywording system and send the files on via ftp to multiple sites simultaneously. Saves a whack on bandwidth and time.

Do you know a way to do this via Wordpress? I can't seem to be able to find a ftp plugin that will do this - move images from the wp media gallery via ftp to multiple agencies. Does your system offer this? If not, please, please modify a "backup" ftp plugin to do this.

I like your offering too - but maybe you want to get some of the premium theme developers over at Theme Forest to give your look and feel offering a full makeover. Or see these guys if theme tweaking is not your thing: https://www.tweaky.com/

I've just contracted them to convert a .psd file to a Wordpress theme for a client. Not sure how great the results will be yet.

Some of us think that one of the main advantages of Symbiostock is that we won't have to wrestle with Photoshelter's bloated management interface any more. We've already dumped one of our sites there, and the other won't be renewed. Also, the FTP transfer may be useful, but for a lot of people it loses metadata on about 1 file in 5.

My transfers seem to work flawlessly for SS but is patchy on DT and others? Then again, my keywords are patchy when uploading to some sites anyway directly from my own ftp. Does anyone know for sure that it's Photoshelter's fault?

Where I live, having an online service that can send via ftp - dodgy keywords or not - is an imperative.

Yeah, for me too. I happily use Lightburner for that. Their (ftp) distribution service is free. There's no reason to bother Leo with this kind of stuff. Please, let him focus on what makes SY so unique.
