Title: Photobox Gallery- worthwhile?
Post by: tridgers on December 30, 2013, 12:49
Hi,

I'm just wondering whether any of you sell via Photobox gallery? (http://www.photoboxgallery.com/ (http://www.photoboxgallery.com/))

I've been looking at putting my photos out a little further than just the standard microstock sites (SS, IS, DT), and was looking at a few other sites like Fine Art America, Zazzle and Photobox Gallery. Does anyone have any advice as to whether they are worthwhile?

Thanks

I have a friend who sells there, but it's not random. He photographs events, puts his photos there and people from the events order from the site. IIRC, there's a password system, so his pics aren't visible to all and sundry.

I don't know how it would be for random sales.

Thanks Sue, do you have any experience with FAA or Zazzle?

Zazzle, no experience.
FAA: I'm in my first year and I've more than made back my sub; but I wasn't submitting arty enough stuff, which I've started working on now and hope to carry on through next year.

Thank you. I'll have a look at them both

Be aware that the very high prices mean FAA is mainly a US market. All my sales so far have been to the US and of US subjects, other than one gift card (US sale, non-US subject) and a phone cover (US/international subject, Saudi Arabian buyer). If you look at 'recent sales' you'll see a similar pattern.
Also be aware that some of the sales you see - especially when you see a lot of sales by the same person - are made outwith FAA (maybe on individual's websites) but fulfilled by them (many have no keywords so aren't searchable within FAA).
