Title: PhotoShelter Launches a Pinterest Clone (Lattice)
Post by: rimglow on November 08, 2014, 15:57
I received an email with a posting of one of my photos unwatermarked. Grrr!  >:(  I investigated and found this.

    from the Alamy forum:

Photoshelter users be warned. They have introduced Lattice, a Pinterest type "service" with no watermark protection.

You are opted in by default. If you use PhotoShelter and value you your images I suggest you login immediately and opt out.

They don't make hugely obvious where to opt out, either.  It's here: Under My account > Account Info > General Information, click Edit Info.  Uncheck the last of 5 checkboxes (Include images in Lattice).

Thanks for the info - I thought that Lattice was a sharing service where you opted IN the images you wanted to share but hadn't had a chance to investigate it yet. Will opt out til I figure out how it actually works.

Just went into my account info and I'm already opted out by default.
But appreciate the head's up.

I was opted in by default and changed it. According to the Lattice forum, the default is different for some but most were opted in by default, and it was a surprise.

I created a poll about Lattice and watermarks on my blog. Would you take a minute to state your opinion?
Thanks, Catherine

From this page: http://www.photoshelter.com/lattice/faq (http://www.photoshelter.com/lattice/faq)

What happened to my watermark?
For the best image viewing experience, Lattice does not use watermarks on images. Your name/copyright and filename will appear on all of your images upon mouse hover (or persistently on touch devices). Moreover, when a user clicks to enlarge an image, they are presented with your name, the image name and description, a link to your website, the option to email you directly and even directly purchase or license the image (if you’ve priced it in your PhotoShelter account).

To further protect your images, we’ve enabled PhotoShelter’s Image Theft Guard across the Lattice platform, which prevents people from right-clicking to save your image or attempting to drag it to their desktop.

(Of course, everyone who knows how to do a screen capture can easily bypass these "protections")

PhotoShelter’s Image Theft Guard = a false sense of protection. We are not fooled!
